I purchased this from my local Giant Eagle in a mix a 6 pack: very disappointed in the taste vs what I read about it. To me this is a come down IPA after a Dogfish 90 Minute IPA and others ... I try many IPA's and this is one I will not be buying a 6 pack of...
better to only try just a bottle ....

Tasted on tap in a pint glass and from a 12oz bottle in a tulip (this review is directly written from the latter). An impressive West Coast IPA - makes me unbelievably disappointed that they'd just killed their keg of Unrefined before we arrived - this appears to be the style that is Voodoo's wheelhouse.

Pours an almost-headless hazy tangerine. Nose is a perfect amalgam of citrus and pine. Orange flesh and rind, along with tangerine and kumquat intermingle with the faintest his of resinous pine on the nose. The palate is a more complex (though faintly maltier) version of Ithaca's Flower Power. Less floral and with the addition of piney notes. The malt background is slight enough that this absolutely qualifies as an almost-west IPA (perhaps more appropriately a Midwest IPA?). Mouthfeel is spot on to match the body. Overall a solid entry into the Voodoo line-up.

Pours a nice bright gold with a medium-small persistent head. Fantastic bright complex hoppy aroma thats primarily citrusy American hops. Lots of hop flavors up front, much like the smell- it's complex citrus hops, grapefruit but that doesn't dominate. This goes into some light malt sweetness before going into a lasting and very pleasant hop bitterness in the finish. Full bodied and well carbonated. Heaviness taking it toward DIPA territory. Overall a very solid IPA with a great hop profile which is primarily what you want from the style.

This IPA boasts seven different hop varieties. That might explain the well roundedness I'm getting from my glass of beer. There's a pleasant sweetness in the flavor that's like a mild fruit candy. Hop bitterness forms a structure that the varieties of flavors can build on. Nothing is out of whack here. Everything seems intentional. I like the voodoo in this hoodoo. Would definitely get again and warmly recommend.

Beer pours a hazy orange with thin foam lacing. Smells of pine and grapefruit. Tastes follows the nose with pine and citrus blending well. Finishes slightly bitter. Overall very good beer.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy, dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of piney hops, a bit of malts. Taste is hops, pine, some citrus, not particularly bitter. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall a decent IPA, but nothing special.

Received a single bottle in a trade. Other part of the trade was for Voodoo Good Vibes, and I enjoyed that beer. Unfortunately I really didn't like HooDoo. There was no date on the bottle, and I am thinking it was probably old. It had a very malt-forward flavor, and this doesn't seem to be a characteristic described in most of the reviews. I would try it again, just to see if I was right about it being old, but I didn't enjoy this experience.

Pour is hazed dark amber with a good bit of white head and some larger bubbles. Nose is heavy caramel and pale malts with some light citrus and lots of resin. Flavor is a bit thin in back, malty and sweet up front, resin hops with a faint citrus, moderate carb, dry finish.

I enjoyed this on tap at Warwick Hotel's Voodoo tap takeover-served chilled in a pint.

The color is a brilliant golden with good clarity and thin white head with fine bead, a good amount of lace sticks with very good retention. The smell has a strong citrus type hop smell with grapefruit quality and light tropical fruit aroma with gentle floral accent. The feel is great with nice depth-medium body with light citrus acidity and medium carbonation with light sweetness and moderate bitterness level with mostly dry finish.

The taste is very solid with blended hop flavor and mild spice with grapefruit flavors in the middle which brings along a pine aspect with slight malt flavor and gentle tangy tropical fruit in the taste with a mostly dry finish with lingering bitter flavor and almost no alcohol. This is a very good IPA, one of the hoppier tasting without sacrificing drinkability -bitterness is semi-strong yet the hops are juicy , this is drinkable and enjoyment level is high.

Hats off to Voodoo for making an IPA that even I could like! I'm not a convert but i could be caught drinking this by choice. Very clear golden yellow. Crisp, clean and dry. Pine and citrus, mostly grapefruit abound. The bitterness is there but not overwhelming. Thanks Voodoo.

From a bottle, pours a clear gold yellow color with a thin wispy head.

The smell is crystal malt, lemon, pineapple, a little orange and some soap and flowers. The flavor is citrus, pineapple, crystal malt, pine trees and lemons. Clean, not overly bitter finish. The flavors are pretty straight forward and blend together well.

Overall, pretty good.

22 oz bottle poured into a snifter.

A- Body is a light crystal clear amber hue. Pours with a 2-3 finger foamy white head which has great retention. Lots of lacing is left behind in the glass and carbonation bubbles can be seen steadily rising to the top. A really beautiful beer.

S- Nose is fantastic. Grapefruit, citrus, and tropical fruits abound. Big, bright, citrussy hops everywhere. Some sugary sweetness can be detected in the background as well.

T- Flavor is not as bright as the nose. Some citrus, mostly orange, and grapefruit upfront-but pretty mild for the initial flavor. A lot of grapefruit juice and resin bitterness come through for the finish. A hint of grapefruit and a moderate amount of bitterness linger beyond the finish-but the bitterness lingers on forever.

M- Body is lightweight and carbonation is low to medium with small bubbles. Consistency is somewhere between slightly watery and slightly smooth and oily. Well done overall and the feel makes it pretty drinkable.

O- Overall this is a good, very drinkable, IPA. The flavor and mouthfeel are not as bright as the nose-but still are pretty well done. Somewhat of a one-sided citrus bomb with a moderate IPA bitterness. Its a fun IPA with little complexity.

Bottles picked up at Voodoo Brewing Company in Meadville, PA.

Pours a slightly dark orangeish-amber, with a half inch head, and not a whole lot of lacing.

Smells juicy and hoppy, with big pine notes, and a bit of bready, slightly sweet malt.

This isn't quite as good as Good Vibes, but still tasty. Very clean hoppiness here again, little yeast flavor, and with a slightly pronounced bready maltiness. There's a bit of sweetness both from the malt and the citrusy hops. Very nice.

This one is fairly light bodied, with a medium amount of carbonation, and a lively crisp mouthfeel.

Voodoo continues to really impress me.

Appearance: Arrives with a modest head on top of the cloudy amber colored liquid; just a few dots of lace linger

Smell: Bready and piney

Taste: Bready, up front, and then the piney flavors take over; the bitterness grows, in the middle and into the finish

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A nice IPA but not a particularly memorable one

12 oz bottle into standard pint glass, no freshness dating that I could find.

Hazy deep yellow body with big 1 " foamy head. Decent lacing. Good hop aroma

Mouth is soft, quite full. Hop bite does not oveerpower, but slightly bitter and tingly on the end of the tongue. There is a very faint mustiness from the bready malts.

Overall, a pretty good IPA. 7.3abv would prevent it being sessionable though.

Thanks to evahflow (reddit) for this one.

Pours a nice fluffy fizzy almost 2 finger head that fades at med pace with lots of big bubbles popping, mild soapy spotty lacing, hazy murky dark orange almost burnt-sienna brown like color with some bubbles streaming up. 4

NOse big hops, citrus, fruity, mild guava and tangerine citrus, faint grapefruit pith, little candied orange peel, faint tropical notes, some sweet candy and caramel malts, little reddish malt note, fairly spicy and chewy like hops, with touch of pine. 4

Taste brings candy malts and candied hops, some citrus and fruity hops with lots of spicy chewy hops, and a little pine. Fruit brings mild tangerine and orange rind, candied orange, little pear like tree fruit, and faint apple skin notes. Some sweet malts, candy like and caramel like, some toasty reddish notes, faint warming booze note. Finish is big bitterness, super spicy bitterness with a little pine and chewy hop profile, lingering citrus notes, little rind, hint of grapefruit on the back end and a touch of a grapefruit-mint flavor. Grapefruit pith really increases late on the finish. 4

Mouth is med to a bit fuller bod, little fluffy, decent fluffy carb, faint warming booze note. 4

Overall pretty good, but nothing too special, nice hop profile esp on the finish, hops get really bitter with a big sweet malty balance, definitely a DIPA more than an IPA, but pretty enjoyable regardless. 4

12 oz bottle poured into a shaker pint.

Appearance
Cloudy gold with a short white head that dissipates quickly.

Nose
Grapefruit, damp pine, leafy, earthy, and slightly spicy.

Taste
Really light flavor profile. Follows the nose but only "watered down." Grapefruit, damp greens, pine, and earth. Some toasted breadiness in there as well and a hint of onion.

Mouthfeel
Light bodied, watery, and crisp with a medium-light bitterness.

Overall
Where did all the flavor go?

I think they were trying to create a west coast style IPA here. It least that,s what it looks like with it's orange amber colored.
Most hop forward IPA's I've noticed tend to be lighter in color.
It has a nice nose with tropical fruits but also some dank dirtiness too.
The taste is very light in flavor. It's sweet and bitter but not very tasty. The hops that were present in the nose are absent in the taste. Had that been the flavor we're talking a good beer.
A good dose of bitterness in the aftertaste with some alcohol warming the palate.
A good beer but just lacks flavor. I don't buy beer to smell it.

Real sweet they bottled this. Picked up a single for 3 bucks.

A - Oily like consistency and very dirty hop water amber looking color seems unfiltered. Head is minimum just a 1/4 inch that settles to a mild lace ring. Looks ok.
S - Herbal hop dankness with a touch of hard water which hopefully will not be incorporated in the taste. Smell is very bitter yet balanced.
T - Quite good an almost orange like hop bitterness with a squeeze of lemony hops. Taste is rather balanced and smooth with the malty sweet background.
M - Smooth light to medium body. Bitter but not watery

Overall again Voodoo nails it. The IPA is good like a lower ABV version of HTP. Hope to be able to pick up a six pack soon.

Had this on 2014-05-11 in Columbia, PA

A - Hazy golden-orange with a 1/2-finger white head and mild lace.

S - Overly ripe pineapple, hop dank, light malt.

T - Hop forward dankness and pineapple followed quickly by metallic/herbal and then aggressive grapefruit flesh and zest bitterness. Not as dank as the aroma. Little malt balance; leaning heavily to a long-lasting drying bitterness on the finish.

M - Light-medium body and medium-heavy carbonation. Prickly, resinous at first, the crisp as it dries.

O - Well-made, hop forward, West Coast style IPA. Doesn't quite make it to the more malt-balanced Head Hunter IPA example that I compare this to. Enjoyed this though and definitely want to seek out more Voodoo Brewing Company Beers.

Pours from a 750 ml bottle, slightly hazed IPA unfiltered Hoodoo IPA from Matt Allyn and company in Meadville, PA. I'm really excited to see a new IPA bottled from Voodoo. Copper body, thicket of khaki off white head, speckled lacing gathers around the sides of the glass. Aroma has citric hops, grapefruit pith notes, ripened mango, tropical fruits with biscuit malts and very nice perceived bready sweetness. The spicy dank hop character pairs well with the citric tropical fruits on the palate the flavors blend well, usually once the brewer uses seven hops it becomes a muddled mess, that's not the case here. I like the malt profile pale malts just a touch of color 2 row, caramalt, carapils, and acidulated malts. As the beer warms up the pine and danker hops come out pretty clearly hop bitterness reigns through in each sip. Mouthfeel is medium to full bodied oily slick hops texture the palate, carbonation is nice carries it all so well. Overall I'm very happy with this PA brewed IPA, besides Victory it's hard to recall another IPA done so well in the Commonwealth of PA.

Poured from bottle into a snifter

Appearance – The beer pours a hazed orange amber color with a small head of billowy white foam. The head fades over a shorter period of time leaving a light level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is a very nice mix of fruit and hops. The aroma is strongest of tropical fruit smell with plenty of tangerine, mango and pineapple. This is mixed with a decent showing of a grapefruit hop as well as a little bit of a herbal smell. Some other fruit aromas of apple and pear are there as well, giving the brew an overall deliciously fruity sweet hopped smell.

Taste – The taste begins with a sweet fruity flavor mixed with some moderately strong caramel and lighter grapefruit flavors. Along with these flavors are some more bready tastes, helping create a nice base flavor for the brew. While the grapefruit starts weak, it grows quite a bit stronger toward the end of the taste with it being joined by some other hop flavors of an herbal, pine, and earthy nature as well. The fruit flavors that were present upfront are of the tropical flavor as was detected in the nose. While the fruit was heavy upfront, it faded quite a bit as the flavor advances to the end, revealing a much drier biscuit taste. With all the hop flavors increasing, as well as the lessening of the fruit flavors of the brew, one is left with a somewhat drier and more crisp, largely bitter, grapefruit hop flavor to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the slightly thicker and creamier side for a brew of 7.4 3 % abv. with a carbonation level that is on the average side. The slightly thicker body coupled with the average carbonation are quite nice for the blend of sweeter fruit upfront with the drier and hopped flavors that come at the end. Rather well done overall.

Overall – A rather nice and approachable IPA. While really not worth the bomber price of $7.50, when compared to many 12 oz. that are of a similar genre, it is well worth at least one try.

Bottle > Pint Glass

A - Clear yellow gold with one finger of foamy white head, medium lacing
S - Aroma is very basic, grapefruit, floral, lots of pine, slightly astringent.
T - Big spicy hop resin bite, lots of grapefruit, pine, citrus peel.
M - Very dry, kinda soapy bitter aftertaste.
O - Not all around the best, but so far its the best IPA Voodoo has made thus far.

Pours a light, clear golden color with white head and plenty of lace. Aroma of stewed, tropical hops with notes of mango, papaya, pineapple, and citrus. In the taste, tropical hop flavor with plenty of bitterness and citrus. Pine, herb, and citrus oil. Really nice. Light to medium bodied, smooth brew. Overall, a triumph.
