If Madagascar and Abraxas had a few too many tequila shots at the local watering hole and ended up in a seedy motel room sweating all over each other in a drunken miasma of passion and poor decision making skills, GNVP would be the bastard child of their forbidden liaison.

Amazing blend of Vanilla, Cinnamon, Chocolate, Peppers, and bourbon. Up there with some of the best Barrel aged Pepper Stouts.
Mouthfeel is a touch thin. BUT, the flavors are absolutely incredible.
I think I prefer this slightly to the Apple Brandy Version.

B2 review. Oh. My. Word.
Just general this time because it's essentially the last version on steroids:
Smell is quite literally one of the best aromas ever! Its layers and layers of deep decadent chocolate, barrels for days, rounded out with a perfect amount of vanilla and rounded out with coconut. Thick, dark maple syrup compounds the already super sweet aspects of this beer, but it's complemented nicely by cinnamon and flavorful pepper heat.
More pepper heat and flavor on the palate than the nose. But it all begins with a melangé of amazing sweetness: maple, mostly layered chocolates (sweet milk, decadent dark, bitter, it's all there and all so tasty), natural vanilla, and coconut from the barrel. Middle palate is where the melangé of sweets meets the contrasting spices and it's a glorious sight to behold: like that photo of the Pacific and Arctic Oceans touching tips. Beautiful, majestic, mesmerizing: a moment you never hope to forget, much like the first girl you see without clothes. Overall, this is outstanding. The additional barrel-aging only accents all the base flavors.

Yikes. This is one of the best beers I've had. It's so well-rounded, with each adjunct playing a perfect role in a Symphony of deliciousness.

Its appearance: is standard for a big stout: pitch black with a dark brown head.

Nose: one of those beers I could just smell all night. Maple bursts out of this beer first (and it's STRONG, I'd say as much maple on the nose as Good Morning, but this beer has more), followed by faint bourbon. Spicy peppers complement the sweet aromas imparted by bourbon, maple, vanilla and chocolate, cinnamon is an afterthought, but miley there.

Taste: similar to the nose, but just barely different. The
base stout is delicious and it's already sweet characteristics are amplified by maple syrup and faint bourbon throughout. Vanilla and chocolate are sort of lost in the rest of the sweet aspects of this beer, but the vanilla is detectable, I don't know so much about the chocolate. With each sip, the heat from the peppers grows ever so softly. Never overwhelming the rest of beer, it almost comes off as alcohol heat, until you taste the peppery finish. As the heat intensifies, it never overwhelms and provides a perfect complement to the sweet side of this beer.

Feel: a lot of people are saying it's a touch too thin. While I agree it's not motor oil or melted fudge, it's hardly "too thin" to detract from the rest of this beer. That's just nitpicking imo.

Overall: read the rest of the review. This is about as good as it gets for beers, man.

My man-crush, fiver29, sent this to me for two cans of Furious or something. That guy. I love him. Or maybe it’s just the alcohol. Maybe both. 22 oz. parchment-wrapped, purple-waxed bottle.

I managed to get the rubbery wax off without impaling a finger, which is good. The beer is black. Beautiful, dark, scintillating black. It smells like the gates of heaven. Seriously; bathe me in this before I kick off for Valhalla. Blasphemous malts, sharp peppers, vanilla, sweet sweetness. Damn.

Grande Negro Voodoo Papi - Bourbon Barrel Aged would bring tears of joy to the eyes of Baal. Huge sweet malts intermingle with the (assumed) maple syrup; I wouldn’t have been able to pick it out, but I’m sure that’s what it is. The peppers creep in with a low, sustained heat, rich vanilla, marshmallows out by the lake, mild spiciness that I’ll attribute to the cinnamon. Zero barrel presence, but who cares? Thick, pleasing, & I’d like to shower in this.

I am reacting right now in a very similar way to the first time I had Cigar City Huangpu’s - something akin to gagkhdjaol. Mmmm. My only complaint is the lack of advertised barrel, but that’s like complaining about being in Prague for only four nights. Amazing beer & my wife thanks our Ohio friend, too.

8oz draft pour at the brewery is pitch black with a thin mocha head.

Aroma is very inviting with Bourbon, Vanilla, Chocolate, Cinnamon and Chilies all being present.

Taste follows the nose with the maple and bourbon working together for a pleasant sweetness to go along with all of the other flavors.

Feel sits at about medium, and is one of the only things that I feel could be beefed up a bit.

Prefer this slightly over the Apple Brandy version.

8oz draft in a 12oz snifter at release
Pour is straight black minimal tan/brown head
Aroma is amazing! Cinnamon, Vanilla, Roastiness, Chili Pepper, Oak, Bourbon all come out. Especially as it warms up.
Taste follows suit. Vanilla, Cinnamon and Bourbon meld nicely with the roasty base stout follow by a really nice lingering heat from the peppers.
My only knock would be the thickness. A touch thinner than I would like.
Overall a well crafted Mexican Stout by the boys at Voodoo.
* Enjoyed this version more than the Apple Brandy, but not as much as the draft only non barrel aged version from the first Barrel Room release.

* notes from bottle - temp played huge part in overall score of this beer. Way to cold on draft.
Maple and Vanila really come through when poured from bottle at 55 degrees. Mouthfeel noticed an upgrade as well. Definitely seemed a bit thicker/chewier at a warmer temp.
Incredibly well done brew!!!

So where do I start with this beer. I can easily say this is in my top 10 beers that I have ever had the pleasure to have. Starts with a very thick black oily pour with minimal head. Smells of vanilla, bourbon and cinnamon. Tastes very chocolatey up front followed by the wonderful mix of cinnamon and vanilla beans and papi with the chili burn at the end. Lingers long after you finish the taste. I know it is just beer but this is one of those beers that you know you may never get to have again and it makes you want to cry. AWESOME JOB BY VOODOO ON THIS.

Another killer stout from Voodoo. Pours dark black with slight tan head. Great cinnamon, vanilla, and bourbon notes up front that are incredibly well balanced. Pepper heat on the back end is a great touch, and the maple sweetness rounds it all out. Love this beer and can't wait to see how it develops with a little age.

Thank you Tommyguz for the hookup on this. Bomber poured into a snifter appears black in color with a khaki head that fades leaving spotty lace.

Aroma has a surprising amount of toasted coconut nuance with oak delivering additional notes of caramel, vanilla and bourbon. Slight earthen roast and peppery element to the back.

This tastes roasty and charred with the dark grain essence upfront somewhat like earthen bakers cocoa that immediately transitions to barrel flavors of toasted coconut, vanilla and caramel with a mild peppery vegetative character and warming burn.

This is medium in body with modest carbonation. The more I drank this, the more it grew on me. Complex and enjoyable brew with a really nice peppery spiciness that integrates perfectly with the warming alcohol burn.

What can't you say about this great beer. Smells of vanilla, bourbon and cinnamon. This is one of the best if not the best beer I've had. The chili burn on the end is not overpowering just gives you the warm lingering feeling you want in a beer. Great job voodoo brewin company.

2016 release. Poured from a 22oz bottle into a Voodoo Teku glass. Acquired in a trade with Jake1992 - thank you sir!

Pours a deep brown molasses colored body on the pour, once it's in the glass it's pretty pitch black with cherry highlights. Head is mocha brown, two finger with an aggressive pour, reduces pretty quickly to leave a ring of brown foam and no lacing.

Aromas.. LET'S TALK ABOUT AROMAS! This is one of the best beers I've ever smelled and one of the only ones I've give a 5/5 to in this category.. this is a straight up maple and vanilla bomb on the nose, and not artificial aunt Jemima or vanilla extract, I'm talking rich maple candy and vanilla cookies straight out of the oven. A bit of bourbon in there and chocolate as well. Wow that smells awesome.

On the tongue is a roller coaster of flavors.. upfront is sweet french vanilla and bourbon, followed by rich maple syrup, milk chocolate, and caramel. The follow through bring on the heat from the peppers which lingers for a while. The finish is roasty and charred. Mouthfeel is a bit thin, as most people have commented, but this surprisingly doesn't take away from the beer as a whole. A moderate amount of booze on the tongue.

Overall, I was blown away by this beer! So amazingly complex and delicious, all the flavors work together. I'd love to get another one.

This was a disappointment after reading such stellar reviews. Taste is mostly pepper. Mouth feel is on the thin side. No signs of cinnamon, maple or vanilla.

It's a well crafted beer but just an average bourbon barrel aged stout.

Pours with a modest head that fades, no real lingering cling. Dark red at the edges, not a lot of legs. A good example of a beer that doesn't need to be overly viscous to, in the end, have perfectly appropriate mouthfeel. Smell is the peak for this; dynamic and revealing ... all the elements present themselves without getting muddled together. The transformation over the glass as it warms is beautiful. The peppers, vanilla, maple, baking chocolate all remain intact but a leathery cherry note pops in, cherry wood, hints of smoke, cassia bark, molasses and licorice all come and go. The aroma, and flavor, strike a great balance between sweet and balancing savory notes. Too warm and it seems to thin out and get a bit boozy but before that it finishes with a cherrywood smoke + cocoa + pepper heat that invites the next sip.

Wow! This beer is everything Double Barrel Huna wished it could be. Nearly everything about it was perfect. The pepper, vanilla, cinnamon, cocoa nibs, and maple were all perfectly balanced out by the bourbon. No part overtook the rest.
