Dated 302 15 so over a year in this one.

Pours dark brown, cola highlights and jet black. Light tan head recedes to a sparse fil and bubbly collar.

Nose is chocolate and dark fruit. A bit of anise and oak. Some charred wood but barely.

First sip is bitter chocolate and undertone of some burnt wood. A little bit of sweet dark fruit. High ABV is masterfully covered. Wood flavors back off some as it warms and opens up some more chocolate and bitterness

Medium body. Really no alcohol heat at all until very late in the glass after warming quite a bit. A little sticky film left but otherwise pretty clean considering such a big beer.

The first few of these I tried I thought it was too heavy on the dark fruits but I don't get that now. Pretty lavorful stout with multiple dimensions. Chocolate, wood, bitterness all in a surprisingly drinkable feel.

Roast for days...and days..but not chalky or 'dry' feeling. I'm of the mind that too many stouts rely on brick content for their alcohol but this one is in the same league as Double Negative for super roasty yet drinkable stouts in the highly elevated ABV range. Probably wouldn't sit on it for longer than a few years. A dark masterpiece well worth seeking out if you're tired of too-sweet stouts. Very excited to finally try this one.

No date on the bottle, but dusty. So it probably has a few months on it.
L. Black, not too thick, small tan head of tiny bubbles reducing pretty quickly.
S. Milk chocolate, coffee with cream and sugar, dates and figs, hint of amaretto, cookie dough.
T. Bittersweet chocolate, coffee and cream, milk chocolate, leather, char in the end.
F. Medium body but slick and smooth.
O. Great stuff. Cheers!

12oz bottle into a pint glass. no freshness dating that i could find.

jet black body, very small oatmeal colored head. decent lacing though.

"stouty" smell. not much else.

bottle speaks of "copious amounts of chocolate". I'm not getting any of it. That said, it is not an unpleasant or bland drink in nay way. 12% abv is very well hidden, so consumer beware. faint hop presence, roasted but not burnt malts. quite a good balance.

overall, nice enough imperial stout. just have to wonder how good it would be if the chocolate was there. no telling how old this one is due to lack of freshness dating.

Bomber into a snifter

L: Menacingly dark with a thick 1-fingered cola colored head, slow to dissipate
S: Inviting roasted malt, chocolate, slight booze
T: Bitter chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, no hint of sweetness, very dry, nice bitterness
M: Full bodied and great on the tongue, well balanced, no heat
O: An outstanding Imperial stout - no adjuncts to distract - just a very well crafted to enjoy without distraction

Poured into a rocks glass: color is black, amber edges, head is tan with fine bubbles which presents about 1/2 inch thick then dissipates to a ring and lace on the glass.

Smell is hard to believe at 12.5% abv - chocolate and roasted malts are big but not out of place; booziness is noticeable but not burning. Not complex but just amazingly subtle and enticing at such a big beer strength.

Taste is similar to the aroma --- very pleasant chocolate and roast balance that is incredibly smooth for a big beer like this. Booziness is present but incredibly subtle. Chocolate and roast start to meld and lead to deeper flavors of cocoa and some coffee grounds.

Mouthfeel is crisp, but not sharp or cloying - again incredible for a big beer with moderately sweet malt base. Lingering presence is chocolate/roast on the tongue - bitterness and booziness dries it out but still easy on the palate.

Overall - this is one great beer --- big aroma and flavors without mouth shattering sweetness or bitterness.
