Style: Witbier

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.90%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This White ale is made with a little Voodoo Twist. We use our house Tripel yeast and add the average unmalted wheat, wheat, barley and just add more of each. Hopped evenly and spiced with coriander, bitter orange peel, juniper and Jeremys' favorite spice to remain a mystery. This beer is to be the answer to those hot summer days. Blows away carbonated water!!!!!

Treated as an imperial witbier and poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a golden murky color with a finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off pretty quick. Concave lace ran around the glass fairly nice.
The aroma had a nice Belgian sweet yeastiness, slight earth, a little bit of mint, crushed coriander, some sweet lemon, and ended with a light hay/grassy note.
The flavor had a nice sweetness about it pulling in all of the previously mentioned aromas together nicely and guided on into the aftertaste in a fluent manner.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sipping quality about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt good. Finish was a little sticky, but for the most part, it came across pretty nice.
Overall, pretty nice as an imperial witbier to me, but perhaps could have just a touch more spices to give off an even nicer spice quality or even pull down some of the stickiness in the feel. I'd still have again.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Orange with no head
S: Wheat, coriander, white pepper
T: Matches the nose with some Belgian yeast notes
M: Medium-bodied, soft
O: Overall a fairly solid Belgian-spiced wheat ale. I wish there was a bit of hops to balance the wheat/spice notes but I'd enjoy this again

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours a hazy golden with some sediment/floaties; small white head that fades leaving nice retention and nice lacing. The aromas have a nice amount of citrus, malts and wheat. A nice amount of lemon. The flavors basically follow the nose. More lemon along with some hints of orange. Peppercorns are there. The wheat and malts do their thing. The spices are there, but are subtle. Finishes clean. Alcohol goes completely unnoticed. Mouthfeel is nice. It's full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's very fluffy and slightly creamy. This one is dangerously drinkable for the style.

This is a nice "Imperial Wheat Ale". It doesn't drink like a big beer and remains refreshing. Enjoyable stuff. The craftsmanship is on point.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy golden color with a 1 inch head and a few floaties. Smell is of wheat, light fruits. Taste is orange peels, wheat, a touch of spice. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is refreshing, as I expect from this style, but it doesn't stand out from the crowd.

A - Unfiltered murky yellow orange color
S - Nothing, no notes for the nose
T - Disgusting; floral, peppery, no real wheat notes, no alcohol, nothing appealing at all
F - Thin, little head, no lacing, like contaminated water
O - Glad I got a single otherwise 5 beers would be in the trash

Terrible beer, wouldn't give this to my arch enemy.

A bolder, higher ABV version of the wit that relies heavily on a spicy, bold clove and cracked profile. Served in a tulip poured from a 12oz bottle. Nose from the bottle is heavy belgian spice, with a delicious yeasty profile. Pours a profoundly hazy honey with a minimal white head that dissipates immediately leaving no lacing (macroscopic floaters are visible too settling into the bottom of the glass - reiterating that this is indeed a new-to-the game microbrewery). The nose from the glass remains beautifully dominated by belgian yeast. The palate is clove and pepper dominated, but not as much so at the one I tried on tap. Cardamom, coriander, and hints of citrus rind (even a touch of lemon) are evident as well.. The palate is almost more akin to a dubbel or tripel than a witbier - there's an excellent medium body that accompanies this beer and really adds to its robustness (their label of "Imperial Wheat Ale with Spices" is certainly apt. Overall, this is an exceptional Belgian that feels dramatically underrated. Part of this may be due to the protean nature of Voodoo's brews - they're constantly tweaking and modifying even their oldest recipes. For example, the version of WMotS I'm drinking currently is 7.9%, a fair bit stronger than the 6.75% that was initially logged on this site. This is a robust "Imperial Wit" of great depth. A truly excellent beer.
