Opened this the night before my Birthday. Got to celebrate early right? Poured into a Firestone Walker Teku. Thank you TommyGuz!

Appearance: Beautiful, deep brown/black like 80% dark chocolate. Virtually no head with a tiny amount of carbonation coming up to the surface of the bottle. The rim is a very narrow brown with tight bubbles all around.

Nose: The nose is of rich fudge with a hint of bourbon. It smells less like a beer than almost anything I have ever had the pleasure to inhale. Smells like it will truly meet it's world class reputation.

Taste: This has a very strong bourbon barrel character. Whereas the flavor profile of the firestone walker barrel beers remind me of a flagship red blend, very complex and balanced, this beer on the other hand reminds me of a single malt scotch; pure, raw power. 20 seconds after the initial hit of very strong whisky and chocolate there is a strong rush of malty character in the best of ways. This beer is saying that it is pure imperial stout.

Mouthfeel: The mouthfeel on this is so thick it is chewy. The carbonation is just spectacular and coats the mouth in a very soft blanket of creamy bourbony heaven with a nice hot kick. It is a true delight to drink and I am sorry that not everyone gets the privledge to have this one.

Overall: WORLD CLASS BARREL AGED IMPERIAL STOUT. I thought that I was over this style, but this beer proves that when done right it can be a pleasure to drink. There are so many barrel aged beers that I feel a 4 oz pour is to much. This is a beer where 12 oz is not nearly enough.

A - Dark chocolate with no light getting thru. No head at all or signs of carbonation

S - Chocolate and vanilla with a big whiff of Buffalo Trace bourbon which gives it oak, caramel and slight booziness near the back end

T - Chocolate up front with the taste of a caramel square as well. Vanilla sweetness comes through from the barrel. Light oak and bourbon in the finish

M - Medium creamy body with light roasted and astringent aspect to it in the finish

O - Tasty and well integrated stout with a good barrel presence, vanilla and caramel to it.

Did the full side-by-side-by-side with the Apple Brandy and Pappy versions. Bottle #661 into a Cigar City snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Same as the other versions. Pours a .25 finger dark mocha colored head with poor retention. Beer is pitch black. Lacing is minimal. Stringy and spotty with decent cling. Thick, oily, monstrous legs. Solid.

Nose is chocolate, booze, leather, and a touch of lactose creaminess. Aromatic. Decent.

Opens chocolate, molasses, leather, and some woodiness. Sweet dark fruit in the middle mixed with an ample dose of booziness. Fudge and brownie sweetness too. Ends hot booze and fig. Aftertaste of molasses, booze and chocolate. Very good. But the alcohol covers the complexity a bit here.

Medium to full bodied with low carbonation. Smooth, slick, and oily in the mouth and goes down warm, viscous, and caressing. Messy finish with a strong, sweet, lingering aftertaste. A touch harsher going down than the Pappy though.

A very good beer but nowhere near the magnificence of the Pappy version. Compared to that, this is a bit harsher and the booze overtakes some of the more nuanced flavors that are present. Still well worth a try though.

12 oz. bottle poured into a snifter. Bottle # 13.

Appearance - Thick viscous and inky black body. A few bubbles. Thin khaki collar.

Smell - Oaky barrel character. Rich vanilla and chocolate. Fudge. Bourbon is nice.

Taste - Sharp bourbon. Chocolate. Oak. Not as pleasant as the aroma. Sharp and boozy.

Mouthfeel - Medium low carbonation. Very boozy.

Overall - Not as good as the apple brandy barrel. Still excellent.
