big thanks to nhindian for hooking this one up. enjoyed from a voodoo brewing oversized barrel room snifter.
bottle #843 1-18-13
a - pried the wax off and opened the beer. brew poured a fairly awe inspiring silk black. the beer literally glistened and i swear i saw it wink at me as the big creamy tan mocha head formed and then vanished leaving sparse bubble islands. simply gorgeous.
s - holy crap, i can smell chocolate from across the room. deep decadent chocolate and vanilla with the trademark intense heat from the pappy barrels (maybe its just me, but i always feel like pappy aged beers are boozier than other barrels...but the booze is pretty smooth). some wood and licorice.
t - i'm a fan of black magick in general, but hot dog if putting it in a barrel doesn't make it better. this beer is pretty much perfect. everything in the right place. great chocolate notes, no booziness at all. perfect thickness. like dessert shake...not a beer. just amazing.
m - WOW. mouth jumped out at me immediately. this is a meal in a glass. big and bold and chewy. thick, but just the right thickness. not boozy at all. smooth. full. rich. bold.
o - overall, i'm floored. this is one of the best beers i've ever had. holy moly. just wow...

While I still have lots of check ins to make and "tick" I figured I'd save one of the best for my 10,000 check in. This one can be no better for what it is. Deep black; dark brown thick head; wonderful chocolate, roasted grain rich nose; flavors that go on forever and a great finish. A worthy check in I figured for #10,000

Side by side with Buffalo Trace batch 1 and Apple Brandy.
My favorite variant of the set. Elegant bourbon flavors dominate, wood, vanilla, cocoa. Very complex with the pappy barrel shining.
Full bodied, smooth, not overwhelmingly sticky.
Alcohol is more present than in the BT variant but on a reasonable level.
Awesome beer.
Thanks to Anton and Michaelis for sharing.

Black, low carbonation, whispy mocha swirl that dissapates in seconds. The nose hits as the wax is broken and the cap is pryed. Chocolate, raisin, marshmallow, wood, its quite magnificent. I should be in a robe in a leather chair drinking this from a pipe.
There is no gimmick with this beer, no trendy flavors. Its a barrel aged stout to perfection. Smooth, creamy, sticky, boozy nearly 4 years later but rounded and soft. The beer bursts with flavor, fudge is the most predominant. A beautiful beer.

This is amazing! Its jam-packed with flavors of liquid fudge batter, fresh brownies, cocoa butter, some vanilla, wood, a touch of some non-descript spiciness, chocolate covered caramel candies, . Still some moderate heat after all this time. Mouthfeel is nice. One of the best noses ever on a beer. This is seriously amazing.

This was one of the best beers I've ever had. #132 from 1-18-13, smell was amazing as soon as the cap was opened. Even as a 3oz pour this was phenomenal down to the last drop. The taste was beautiful liquid fudge. The nose remained intense in the glass even with just the residual coating. I'm excited to find more and try the other barrel aged variants.

I have drank three different bottles over the years and all have been fantastic. Probably my favorite BA Beer out there. The pappy barrel comes through with fantastic taste and the beer is up there with Pappy Sexual Chocolate.

Had this side-by-side with the Apple Brandy and Buffalo Trace variants. All were good, but this was the clear winner. Such a smooth flavor, with just the right amount of barrel. Incredible.
