"Curt's blend of our new wee heavy, Tenacious Wee and our yet to be named barlewine aged in Pappy Van Winkle barrels for 12 months."

Cask offering at Voodoo served in a barrel room collection snifter. The brew appears a very dark brown to black color with a finger of tan head that holds throughout the duration. Some patchy lace sticks to the glassware. Overall, pretty fantastic retention.

The aroma is quite sweet smelling with vanilla leading the way. Notes of chocolate and toasted grain come through with a kick of bourbon that imparts a mild tangy boozy component. Some caramel and toffee noted are an after-thought.

The flavor strikes with booze upfront. Some roasted grain element before a solvent alcohol kick. Mid-palate are flavors of chocolate, vanilla, toffee and caramel. The aftertaste boasts soft notes of barrel induced coconut.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is boozy and unique. If a wee heavy and barleywine really are what comprimised this blend, consider me super interested in trying those individual brews when they become available.

On tap at Voodoo Homestead in Homestead, PA. This is a mix of Tenacious Wee and K13.

Pours a dark tawny brown, with a small amount of head, and basically no lacing.

Smells like caramel, bourbon, toffee, and brown sugar.

I personally don't think this tastes better than the sum of its parts, but it still tastes quite good, anyway. I get more K13 than Tenacious Wee here, with honey, caramel, bourbon, molasses, and brown sugar dominating. This is quite sweet. The bourbon is not overpowering really at all.

This is fairly thick bodied, with a smooth and rich mouthfeel. The carbonation level is pretty low.

Voodoo can't really miss. Both K13 and Tenacious Wee are better than this, but with how good they both are, you really can't have a bad blend anyway.

Pitch black and opaque with faint mahogany edges and a one finger dark beige head that quickly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Pretty good retention for style and ABV with large streaks of chunks of soapy lacing left behind.

Intense complex and inviting aroma with a really powerful barrel character that somehow doesn't obliterate the other notes. Sweet and spicy spirit with excellent bourbon character, vanilla bean, slightly charred oak and prominent toasted cocont. Underneath, there is a really nice balance of sweet, roast and leathery malt notes. Slightly vinous with dark fruit, raisin and licorice. There's also a leathery tobacco character with subtle roast. Hints of coffee bean, oatmeal, toast and dark chocolate countered by decadent and silky dessert-like chocolate sweetness. Like a bourbon soaked chocolate coconut cake. Smells incredible.

Fuller end of medium body with a prominent barrel presence that initially overpowers the other flavors with sweet, spicy bourbon and subtle lingering heat. Strong charred oak character but it's complimented by booze/spirit, leathery malt and roast. Never becomes harsh or too toothy. Bourbon is prominent and actually tastes like pappy which is pretty rare. The toasted coconut flavor from the barrel is really nice and is nicely complimented by subtle silky vanilla bean sweetness. Under the barrel, there's a decent amount of roast which is stronger than in the nose. Slightly burnt malt wih toast, ash, deeply roasted coffee bean and bittersweet dark chocolate. Subtle leathery malt flavor that opens as it warms with some tobacco and vinous fruit. Port like with raisin, fig plum and licorice. Sweet malts counter things a bit and blend well with the vinous fruit notes but they aren't as luscious as in the nose. Some bakers chocolate, caramel and tofee but this beer is all about the strong barrel flavors, roasted malts and vinous sweetness. Barrel flavors are a touch too aggressive and the malt bill could use more sweetness, but for a BW/wee heavy hybrid this beer has really complex flavor.
