Poured to an Urthel glass.

A: The body is coppery to brown with a white head showing little retention but good lacing.
S: The aroma hás some sweetness incoming from not sure where and a big malty profile followed closely by a belgian yeast.
T: Incredibly, the taste is a bit empty, having just a just slight prominence of malts.
M: Body is medium, carbonation is medium low. Alcohol is unnoticed. No bitterness, nor big sweetness.
O: First Urthel but it's just a big empty beer.

Hazy and with a great head worthy of a Belgian saison. Absolutely lovely lacing. Lots of unripe apricots, apple rind and peaches. Hardly any yeast notes, which caught me by surprise.

330ml bottle poured into an oversized wine glass.

Hazy gold amber color with thick white frothy head with decent retention, it sinks to everlasting bubble sheet on the surface along with lots of sticky lacing patch on the glass-side.

Chalky yeast, some funk, a little bit spice, honey, floral, loads of fruity ester reminds me of peach, lemon, apple, and some earthy as well.

Kick off with some tartness and a bit spice that nicely mingles with biscuit malt sweetness, then it is fruitiness affair with the same kind of fruity ester pronounced in the aroma. There is some funkiness too as well as some earthy and grassy notes.

Light to medium body with smooth mouthfeel through the palate from its lively carbonation, the feeling is crisp with dry finish. There is some character that is reminiscent of Witbier, very tasty and good Saison offering from Urthel.

11.2 oz bottle

Hazel out blond color, white gold. Soft, fluffy high head cap.
Apricot, white pepper, light golden wheat. Honey sweet, bread malt, herbal yeast. Pretty nice.
Feels crisp, sharp and then smooth.
Flavors of earthy, herbals, wheat and complex yeast abounds. Good complexity, unique wild oats effect adds to the yeast forward flavors. Plenty of light malt for sweetness.
Finishes rather sharp, tangy and mildly bitter.
A unique Saison. One of my favorite styles.

Look: 4.25
Pours a hazy yellow/orange straw color. A fair amount of foam, expected more from this style of beer. The head sticks around for awhile as the bubbles are quite active.

Smell: 3.75
Smells very earthy and of cut grass. Slight hint of citrus and no real sourness.

Taste: 4
Not as expected. Very wheaty and biscuit. Hints of white wine; similar to a good Kolsch. Fairly sweet at first and dries slightly as you go. Can’t really make out hop bitterness or flavor. Mostly yeast, wheat, and bread.

Feel: 4.25
Fuller than expected (still on the light bodied side). Quite a bit of fizz. Interesting.

Overall: 4
Pretty good. Like a stronger Helles or a meltier Kolsch.

To the extent that a formula exists for something as exaggeratedly diverse as small family Belgian breweries, Urthel follows the pattern: distinctive yeast, few offerings, unique spicing. Urthel is a husband-wife team (he also is an illustrator and draws the funny-looking, big-nosed men on their labels.) MJ's "Great Beers of Belgium" admiringly described the wife as the" brewster" (proper English for a female brewmaster.) And she more than seems quite good. I have Had 4 of their 7 brews and look forward to the others.

Saissonniere was what I expected from their rendition of the saison. So I had it before the meal, thinking their bitter-weighted blend of hops might interfere with main dish. I saved a little and I probably was right: this saison cut through the oil and garlic, but then the hops started acting like it was the show. (I flatter myself to think that my ratatouille should reflect the evening's most memorable herbs... but I'll concede defeat when paired with an excellent brewer such as this.

Recommended more than once.
With another tasting several months later, I edited the review for clarity... but did not change the rating. Have Saisonniere with appetizers or a light part of the meal.

A good pale hazy saison, with some hoppiness but also some malt complexity. Hop aftertaste dominates, slightly bitter, but the beer overall isn't too bitter, instead having honey and fruity flavors.
Carbonation is very slight, maybe a bit too much so, but just enough to exacerbate the flavors.
