A: Pours a hazy golden yellow colour with two fingers worth of bright white foamy head. Settles to a very thick head and left tons of thick foamy lacing.

S: Lot’s of lemon and yeasty scents. Also a bit of pepper and spices.

T: Lot’s of lemon and pepper with the yeasty tastes coming in a bit afterwards. It’s pretty dry. Really enjoyable taste.

M: Medium Carbonation with a medium body.

O: Very delicious beer. Could easily drink many of these.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a yellow-brown color and a cloudy consistency. There was a big, creamy, long-lasting head. Excellent lacing.

S: A somewhat fruitier aroma than I expected (considering this is a saison), but very pleasing.

T: Tasted of malt, a big fruity component (pears, maybe apples), cloves, and the typical funk you get with this style. A slightly different flavor, but very vibrant and tasty.

M: A highly carbonated beer with a somewhat slick finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This is an easy to like, flavorful beer. Very well done.

Pours hazy light golden color with a medium sized white head that quickly fades away to a light ring and leaves moderate lacing.

Aroma of honey and lemon upfront with some banana and pepper in the back.

Taste starts off with some bubblegum and banana then gives way to faint hops and spices with notes of citrus in the background.

Medium body with medium carbonation. A nice saison but I've had better. Good to try but not worth coming back to in my book.

A: Pours a straw-like colour with a sizable two-finger marshmallow-like foam head. Very good lacing with good retention.

S: Similar to a belgian strong ale, except with a more earthy (grassy) quality to it. Belgian spice aromas of clove, corriander, and pepper coming through on this. Detecting some honey and bit of tropical fruit (pineapple and passion fruit).

T: Surprisingly rather bitter with that earthy grass-like taste coming through and a healthy dose of pepper. Faint hints of pineapple, along with a slight clove taste but not as strong as the smell suggested. Also picking up a slight nut taste. Finishes with a noticeable dryness.

M: About average carbonation with a good light mouthfeel that's slightly oily.

O: A decent Farmhouse Ale that's not exceptional or anything, but still worth a try. Not as complex tasting as I would prefer in a farmhouse, but still OK.

11.2 ounce bottle poured into a LaChouffe tulip. See-thru gold with a delicate meringue head that leaves attractive scattered patches of lacing.

Lively fruity nose full of clove and peppery spice. Lively flavors as well. Yeasty and tangy with a flourish of bubblegum, spices and clove before a crisp and toasty finish. Nice bite of hoppiness and some mild funk. Lightish bodied with active carbonation. Easy drinking saison here.

Bottle dated 16:44 K11C11. Poured into a Duvel tulip.

Just deeper than straw yellow with an effervescent white head tha laces wonderfully. Black pepper, corn sweetness, cloves and light Belgian funky seers are on the nose. The body follows similarly expect with less pepper and a very dry finish. Some lemon is evident along with fruity esters too. Nice for the style it claims to be.

Poured into a tulip.

Appearance- Pours a slightly hazy golden straw color with three fingers of fluffy white head, that isn’t moving anywhere anytime soon. Lots of active carbonation, very pretty beer. 5 minutes later, the head has not shrunk a centimeter. Clumps of sticky lace are left behind. (I hate describing appearance in so much depth, but this is an epic looking beer)

Smell- Lemon and a nice peppery spice to it. Some orange peel, a little bubblegum, and a pleasant earthy musty note.

Taste- Lemon, banana, and a huge yeast presence. A dry orange peel again, a little clove, with more bubblegum. Slight grass, citrus hops, and a peppery dry finish.

Mouthfeel- Light crisp and refreshing. Prickly carbonation; slightly dry.

Overall- A nice saison, but perhaps too much of a yeast presence to be in the upper echelon. Pretty good overall, and looks stunning, but with so many great saisons out there, I probably won’t buy this again, unless it’s to try it on draft.

appearance: hazy golden with a large off white fluffy head
aroma: plenty of belgian yeast, bready, a bit peppery with hints of bubble gum
taste: much of the same, quite bready with yeast as the main player. a bit of mellow spicy hops, but the soft malt and yeast character are dominant. some bubble gum. somewhat sweet and candy-like with mild tartness.
mouthfeel: medium bodied with moderate carbonation. fills the palate but is light enough to easily kick back.
drinkability: highly drinkable and enjoyable.
overall: not the most complex saison; doesn't display much of the funkiness that can be found in many, however, quite enjoyable and straightforward. worth checking out.

11.2oz. bottle served into a tulip glass

Pours a crystal-clear pale yellow. Really, the translucency is impressive. A collection of small, fine bubbles form a two finger head. This is a good looking beer for sure.

I am much less impressed with the aroma. I'm wavering between scoring it a 3.0 and a 3.5; it's very slightly above average. The problem with this bottle of Saisonniere anyway is that it is almost entirely yeast-dominant. That can be fine and good, but not when your yeast is sort of boring or atypical for the Saison style. There's some bubblegum yeastiness, plenty of black pepper and/or other assorted spices, and a fair amount of hops. Some people who have reviewed this beer mention some funkiness, but I don't pick up on any of that. This is straightforward Belgian yeast and very little apart from that.

The taste is a lot like the nose is, only more reductive (and prohibitively so). There's an abundance of spicy hops that meet a fair amount of bubblegum esters. That's about it, unfortunately. Almost none of the nuances that so attract me to the Saison style are found in this beer.

the carbonation is active but on the soft side in terms of physicality. It helps the entire mouthfeel considerable. Overall, this is an average Saison. Considering the level of hoppiness, the experience of drinking it is like that of Boulevard Tank 7, only this beer doesn't come close to entering Tank 7's realm. Sometimes a mix between Saison and IPA can work very well. This beer isn't one of those.

I've seriously found my new favorite style: saison. Poured yellow with thin head. Smell was of yeast, and fruit, particularly banana. Tasted slightly tart with minimal bitterness. Overall a pretty good beer. Relatively low abv makes this super drinkable...the mouthfeel was relatively smooth and refreshing. I had to slow down my drinking, I just wanted to chug it.

From tap to stemmed Urthel wine glass
at Pie Whole on St. Thomas, VI on 6/2/11
*From notes

A: Cloudy and glowing golden-lemon. The biggest four finger, ghost white head I've encountered and gobs of thick lacing.

S: Fresh basil, soft malt and rich Belgian yeast.

T: Slightly yeasty up front. The lemongrass kicks in on the mid, as the finish showcases a twist of dark sugar.

M: Bubbly, yet it's soft enough. It doesn't stand out in this category, but is certainly above average.

O: Urthel's Saisonniere is a nice, refreshing and pretty delicious farmhouse ale that paired perfectly with my meal. Considering I had this in the Virgin Islands, I really couldn't have asked for much more.

*Paired with a veggie pizza

This beer pours a clear golden color with a finger of white foamy head that retains alright but leaves little lacing. The aroma has notes of spices and banana. The taste has banana notes and earthy hops. The mouthfeel is slightly overcarbonated and leaves a harsh aftertaste. Overall an ok beer worth a try.

A- Pours hazy golden color with a white head that transitions into a thin lace around the edge of the glass.
S- Sweet malt, touch of honey, citrus, traditionally belgian yeast smell with some earthiness.
T- Unripe citrus with the continued earthiness that was found in the aroma.
M- Fairly dense body. Not too dense but more than I would have expected for being 6% ABV
O- More hops in the flavor than I expected (I mean this in a good way). With the citrus and honey in the aroma I expected it to be slightly sweeter. I liked that the flavor had the complexity that good belgian beers do and that the beer was layered both in the aroma and the flavor. Not the most amazing belgian beer I have had, but still fun to drink and had the basic characteristics it should.

Had on tap at Monk's Cafe in Philly.

Arrived in a signature Saisonnière glass. I really wish I had taken a picture - the glass was awesome - but my senses were on overload that afternoon.

Very pale, nearly clear in color. Reminded me of some hard ciders at how light in color this was. Excellent clarity. Lots of vigorous carbonation was visible. Had a small cap of dissipatory white foam.

Smelled very light and airy. Nice clove and funky barnyard esters.

This might be one of my all-time favorite tasting saisons. It was simply the lightest, most crisp and clean tasting saison to grace these lips. Nice funky herbal notes but these aren't in your face or vying to cover up the precision this beer must have required to brew.

I'd happily session this beer for hours on a warm summer day.

Appearance: Poured a lemon blond slightly cloudy with some fine carbonation and a nice head. A small swirl really brings out a nice head.

Smell: Lemony white pepper.

Taste: Similar to the smell, almost like a sweetness with a developing bitterness from a lemon rind. Very crisp. As the lemon leaves, the hoppy bitterness develops and lingers. Overall, a nice light beer with a spicy taste.

Certainly no the best Saison out there (Sorachi Ace!) but would be very nice with some grilled halibut or another whitefish.

Bottle: Poured a hazy golden color ale with a nice thick foamy head with good retention and some very good lacing. Aroma consists of fruity ester with dry Belgian-style malt base. Taste is a nice mix between some dry-Belgian-style malt with nice fruity ester and dry hoppy finish. Body is quite full with good carbonation. Very nice drinking Belgian ale with nice complexity but still good drinkability factor.

Purchased in Cadzand.
POurs a light golden color, stong carbonation, full fluffy head. Slighty murky body, looks very good.
Smells of lemon, funky mushroomy-grain body, coriander seed, tangy mango, alcohol is quite apparent in a nice tart burn. Apple, underripe pear, pepper on the body and finish. Lovely and balanced.
Taste is great! Funk, grass, lemon, orange, a bit of cellar mustiness, hay, woodiness, finishes with tart lemony notes mixed with pepper and spices. Tingling from a light warmness on the finishes adds a brightness to the drink.
Mouthfeel is light, bright, and exciting. Tart, yet lightly sweet and warming.
In the upper echelons of Fantome and Orval, this beer does not quite make the cut in terms of mind blowing complexiy, but in its own right, light, complex, refreshing, and perfect in sour-sweet balance.
Another great beer from Mrs. Hildegard!

Pours hazy bright gold with a thick, rocky head.
Aromas are of bread, pear, earth, spice and musty herbs.
On the palate the texture is creamy at first, and finishes very dry, almost powdery.
Flavours are of pear, noble hops, and spice with a nice mildly funky tartness.

Had this at the Blue Monk in Buffalo. A nice straw to gold color with thick white head that lasted to the bottom. The aroma was mostly belgian yeast with hints of citrus and belgian malt. The mouthfeel was medium with slight creaminess, highly carbonated. The flavor was a smooth balance of belgian yeast, bready malt, and hint of citrus, with a nice dry finish. I didn't get a lot of hops in flavor or aroma but it was there for the hop bitterness backbone. Wonderfully made beer that was refreshing on tap.

A - Pale yellow. Decent head with a highly variable bubble structure, nice lace, and ok retention.

S - Artichoke. Earthy. Mildly sour, but pleasant.

T - Fresh bread, banana, nutmeg, light apple. Honey.

M - Medium/light body. Very smooth. Nice carbonation, but on the low end for the style.

O - Nice, smooth character and a nice flavor profile.

A - Good looking Saison, hazy yellow gold coor with a tick foamy frothy white head. Good lacing
S - Lemon fresh sweetness that is mellowed by earthy notes and spices (little pepper in there)
T & M & D - A little fruity lemon sweetness on the front. Then strong earth flavors and spicy kick of pepper comes in the middle. You can taste the hop bitterness on the finish. This is medium to light bodied with a great carbination. The beer is crisp and clean in the front and has complexity in the middle and then finishes clean again. Refreshing and very easy. I like this saison, it is very drinkable and enjoyable.

A - Poured out a cloudy, orange color with a small, white head of bubbly foam. The crackly head had some nice retention and left wispy trails of lace.

S - It smelled slightly funky and phenolic with some spicy/yeasty notes.

T - It tasted spicy, funky and yeasty with a nice grain backbone. There was a subtle fruitiness, too.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a nice, snappy finish.

D - This is a really nice saison. Urthel does good beers at reasonable prices.

[email protected]: if I am reading this right, the bottle is less than a week old, certainly possible because it taste like that:

A: very hazy yellow, lots of head on this one but it doesn't stick around for long
S: hops & citrus
T: dominating bitter hops, citrus, wheat, very small hint of spice & banana, minor grass
M: decent carbonation, kind of thin but not watery body
D: sessionable but the bitterness was very dominant which would make me decline a second one
