On tap.
A - Dark copper colored pour with frothy and very sticky white lacing.
S - Very light overall aroma. Toasted caramel malt, light earth and grain, bread crust, that's about it. Not much going on there.
T - Toasted caramel malt and bread crust remain constant throughout this beer. Midway through light to moderate piney/citrus bitterness surfaces and continues to build until the end of the sip. Ends with a pleasing bitterness that finely balances out any malt residue.
M - Medium body that's soft and slick. Leaves a grainy feel in the mouth.
O - Not a fan of this style but Cricket Hill did a nice job with this one.

DATE: February 3, 2018... OCCASION: celebrating a great showing at Phillipsburg's Quiz Bowl tournament... GLASSWARE: Hop Devil nonick... pours a dark amber body, lightly effervescent, and clusters of bubbles notch up and down the glass... the head retention flattens at a half-finger of off-white head that sends solar flares upward... presents as a nutty, lightly roasted aroma, fresh from a growler poured mid-afternoon today... caramel is notable, as is the toffee... a solid representation of the style... sips at a ridiculously easy rate, with a sweet and creamy mouthfeel that rewards the palate... the finish holds but doesn't overwhelm... nuts, toasted malts, light aromatic noble hops, and flowery hints--a righteous, agreeable, comfortable beer to eat/chill/watch TV with... a quality ESB, and possibly an entry pass to trying more Cricket Hill... and at $6 a grunt, a great buy at Liquor Fcatory...

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has an amber/copper color with a 1 inch head. Smell is of malts, light sweetness. Taste is bready malts, hops, well balanced, very easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a highly refreshing beer.

Cricket Hill is a small brewery in Fairfield New Jersey. The bar tender serving me here at the EWR Marriott hotel (Korey) knows the history behind it: the young brewery's equipment was constantly in need of repair and they just happened to share the warehouse space with a talented welder/fabricator. So the Cricket guys went to him for help: fix our equipment and we'll let you have all the beer you want. Deal made! And wouldn't you guess who the welder guy was? "Colonel Blides". In New Jersey too!!
My review: this is a very (exceptionally) done English ESB. Reminds me of Fuller's 1845. Tastes wonderful, having a superb smooth character: light in the mouth yet deep in character.
L: typical copper/gold with a 3/8" bread head that dissipates down to a 1/16" layer that stays to the bottom. Perfect.
S: almost nothing. Clean. But also doesn't invite you with the approach to the glass.
T: the real strong suit of this beer is its perfectly balanced taste. It's reminiscent of Fullers 1845 - a bottle conditioned Ale that's truly incredible. A great ESB is around 6% and has a great balance. It's just ever so slightly fruity, just a little hoppy and not really bitter at all. Taste hits the back of your theist more than the tip of your tongue. It's just that perfect balance and a nice 6% or so to be pleasing.
F: light in the mouth it's not fizzy at all but again just about perfect. Not heavy and sticky. Goes down nicely.
O: this is a winner in pretty much every respect. True to form, thoughtfully crafted and just a real pleasure to drink. Bravo to the brew staff at Cricket Hill !!
