From notes...

Copper in color. Very active carbonation. Thick, burly cream colored head with good retention and lacing. Smell is of grassy hops and is somewhat subdued. Taste is okay. Slightly herbal hop notes backed with biscuity malt. Drinkability is good. This brew is fairly well balanced. Not complex, but fundamentally sound. Worth a try but not much beyond that.

Appearance – Light orangish-brown color with a gorgeous, tight, lightly tanned head that went down slowly and laced the glass.

Smell – Nice, light citrus hop aroma with a little orange sweetness and a touch of malt.

Taste – This almost hit the mark. The orange sweetness came out nicely at the taste, and there was just enough malt in there to balance this pale ale. But the hop flavors didn’t show up, which is an absolute necessity for me when shopping for a good pale ale.

Mouthfeel – This was refreshing but a little too sweet for my preference.

Drinkability – This is a nice beer, but not exactly what I think of when I grab a pale ale.

Pale ales can be a good baseline for judging a brewery, simply because it is such a common beer style. Based on this pale ale, Dick's would appear to brew good, enjoyable, if a bit emasculated, session beers. This is misleading; Dick's brews a ton of styles, most of which have loads of character, and are, on the whole, aggressively strange. Not the case with the pale. It pours a copper-orange with smallish head, a pleasing aroma of pale malt, and a laid-back flavor that brings the malt to the forefront. Hops provide citric flavors, a juiciness, and a delicate crispness, and Dick's often distracting yeast is present in suitably small doses to provide some earthy British complexity. The beer doesn't scream out high quality, but I found the package to be enjoyable on the whole, and worthy of a higher rating than most of Dick's other, weirder beers.

Pours cloudy amber with a sizabe off-white head. Lots of lacings.
Very nice APA, hops leading the malts, slightly bitter finish.
Middle of the road as far as hop level but a perfect APA for my palate.
Mouthfeel is right on for the style.
Drinlability is much better than average with an abv of 5.0%

I had out of a 12 ounce bottle. It's slightly opaque with a good foamy head and lacy. Bubbly...lots of sediment. Outstanding sweet malt scent.

It's quite crisp and has a kind of generic cereal taste. Malty. Not sure what the taste is, but it's kind of milky, yet the beer is not thick.

A: The beer is slightly hazy golden yellow in color and has a very high amount of carbonation, the amount of bubbles that one would expect in a hefeweizen. It poured with a two finger high off white head that has excellent retention properties and consistently covered the surface..
S: The smell isn't very strong but is quite sweet and has some hints of citrus.
T: Like the smell, the taste is quite sweet and has some citrusy flavors. There are some hints of bitterness in the finish.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. A slight amount of dryness is present in the finish.
D: The beer is easy to drink and quite refreshing.

On the pour hazy amber in color, white head that is modest in size but dissipates quickly leaving adequate lace to cover the glass. A bit of ripe fruit sweetness, some hints of fresh cut grass, malt, crisp and clean. Cloyingly sweet at the start, top middling with a pertinent acidic bite, hops are apropos for the style. The aftertaste malt dry and a decent drinking beer but does seem to lack a bit of body to make it something other than “Average”.

This beer looks good, a yellow color with a nice white head sitting on top of it and highly carbonated. It almost lacks a smell, hint of yeast but no other smell. Same with the taste, very bland. Hops and malt are perfectly balanced to make an unremarkable beer. I expect more hops in a pale ale. This beer is very drinkable but is too mild in character for me to fully enjoy.

It has a beany, sweet malty and just a little metallic smell. It has a beige head over a bronze red body. There is a little bit of sediment in there but it is a mainly cloudy beer. It has a beany, sweet, smokey and roasted flavor all at the same time. There is a hint of bitterness but not much for hops. That bitterness seems to be more from roasted malt than anything. I am not sure why but it sort of reminds me of a hefe maybe it is the yeast. There is a lot of carbonation and a good head and lace.

This was not my favorite pale ale but I was glad to try something new. I think it may have suffered the long travel and then perhaps bad location on the shelf. In general an unremarkable pale ale. Typical golden color with little hop aroma. Flavor is good but, again, nothing to write home about. I have a couple of other beers from this brewer and hope to do better with them.

Dick's Pale Ale, draft

A Gold to amber color, nice head, unfiltered.

S floral hop aroma, some malt.

T Hops. This is one of the most hop flavored beers I have had. Not in smell or bitterness, but in flavor. It is not typical of pale ales. I am unsure if it is the variety of hops used, or just a huge amount of hops used in flavoring, or perhaps no aroma hops used. Pretty good and one that could be used to illustrate the use of flavoring hops. There is a little sweetness that could be balanced with a little mote bitterness.

M Med, good carbonation.

D A very drinkable beer. I wish this was available in my area.

Handsome clear amber brew with a tall pile of white sticky foam in the bulb-top stout glass. Rich aroma of warm cereal and straw with a whiff of herbal hops. Sudsy mouthfeel. Lots of roasted barley in the taste along with caramel. Fairly sweet with malt for a Pale Ale.

Modest bitter aftertaste but enough to balance the sweetness. Very tasty, overall. Definitely on the rich and spicy side but delightfully drinkable. The current bottled version is 4.8%. From the 12 oz bottle purchased in the mixed 12 pack

Poured from 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. My bottle said the beer is 4.8% as opposed to the above-listed 5%.

Appearance: light-golden color, very slightly cloudy, with a thin head.

Smell: light and sweet with a light floral hops aroma and a hint of diacetyl.

Taste: a bright metallic taste hits me right away. There is some light malt flavor and a slight buttery flavor at the finish, and it is nicely bitter apart from the smack of metallic hops at the beginning.

Mouthfeel: body is medium with a reasonable level of carbonation.

Drinkability: this beer just seems kind of harsh to me, so I'll have to give it a below-average drinkability.

A solid pale ale on all fronts. Pours a dark amber/reddish color with decent off white head, lacing is average. The smell is a blend of sweet caramel, slight citrus hops as well, slightly spicy. The taste has a strong not of cinnamon and nutmeg, the sweet caramel/molasses goes well with the citrus grapefruit hop, subtle yet pleasant. Medium bodied and will call you back for more, very drinkable.

Medium yellow brown color, small foamy beige head. Aroma is malty and slightly sweet. A medium bodied pale ale. Rather hoppy but balanced with a nice malty sweetness. Crisp taste. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is crisp and clean. Aftertaste is slightly bitter

This is the most BC like of any US pale ale I have tasted in that it seems underhopped but smooth and balanced. This tastes very much like Okanagan Spring pale ale. I like the drinkabiltiy and the nice rounded edges of the beer but it is easily forgettable and really underpowered.

Poured from a standard 12oz'r into a pilz glass. Pours somewhat hazy and is pale amber in color. Poured with about a finger head with big bubbles that didn't stick around. Nose is relatively fair, slightly malty with a touch of hops and almost a bit of smoke in the distant background, or is that from my hands after just throwing a log on the fire? Taste is a bit light and mostly malty and somewhat earthly and not the good earthy. Hop flavor and bitterness is about right. Mouthfeel is way to watery and the co2 is a bit high. Finishes sweet with a bit of a bitter finish. Overall this is an OK beer but certainly not my favorite from Dicks.

The Pale Ale from Dicks poured a clear copper color with a 1 finger foam head and some sudsy lacing.

The aroma was malty and fruity. The flavor was buttery and semi crisp on the finish. It had mild bitterness. It was pretty balanced and left a tingling in the back of the throat. It was thin in the mouth. Overall a pretty middle of the road APA.
