500 ml bottle, a Christmas present from my nephew Einar, thanks! ABV is 4.9%. Copper coloured beer, moderate off-white head, nice lacing. Moderate malty aroma, notes of bakery and caramel, hints of red fruits. The flavour is fairly malty with distinct notes of caramel and brown bread, in a blind test I might first mistake this ale for a German dunkel. The earthy hops in the finish are more pronounced than in most dunkels, though. A very drinkable beer!

Clear 500ml bottle: best before the end of Feb 2013 and poured into an Abbot Ale glass tankard on 10th June 2012.
It's name suggests it might be red and as the bottle was clear it showed that colour! The head was a cream coloured affair of tight bubbles.
Malty and fruity in the nose and taste with a mini-hop finish. Fairly sweet feel in everything: the alcohol is nicely hidden and overall it gets a 'thumps up' from me without waving my arms around excitedly.

This one pours a classic amber as expected from a beer called Red. The head is weak and white settling out quickly with very little lacing. My expectations are starting to go downhill after having just previously tried the Lancaster Black and being rather disappointed with it.
The nose is overwhelmed by bread and malt with subtle hops.
The taste is very bitter, almost identical to the black without the roasted malt flavors. Some vanilla, caramel and overwhelming and unbalanced hops. This one has a very bitter aftertaste that is not very pleasant and leads to needing water to cleanse the palate a few minutes later.
The mouthfeel is basically identical to water with very scant amounts of carbonation.
Overall another big disappointment for a beer that I had high hopes for after reading the flyer that came with it. I definitely will not be buying this one again.

pours out of the half litre bottle a chestnut brown colour, slightly hazed with suspended sediment and a light tan half inch head. appropriate lace left on the glass as i drink. the aroma is malt forward with aggressive toffee and caramel with a twist of red ripe fruitiness. the taste follows suit...chocolate and toffee, some caramel and coffee with a fruit cake undertone that really is appealing. mild, hay like hop profile with some minimal bitterness. for a session type ale this is pretty tasty as the yeast profile generates more flavours than your run of the mill red ales. the overall body is about what you would expect in a session ale with a smooth mouthfeel that at times can be considered watery, but the dearth of flavours sort of make up for that fact. finishes dry, and the drinkability is quite pleasant.
overall i'm quite pleased with this offering. a flavourful red ale with enough character to keep things interesting. would pair nicely with some fish and chips or stinky cheese. recommended.

I gotta say, this is one of the easiest drinking and most tasty beers I have ever had. Got this beer from a local distributor rep giving out free samples and was a little apprehensive.
Aromas of hops and english malt with a slight breadiness.
Taste is HUGE for this low of an abv. Mildly sweet, but very balanced and drinkable.
Has become one of my favorites.
