awful upfront, awful finish--like eating ragweed and then licking a 2x4

Tasted more like a shitty English barley wine.

Not sure what it is, but the smell and taste have a hint of plastic. As if it were fermented in a plastic bucket or container and the beer picked up the flavors. Definitely not a repeat buy for me. Poor representation of a DIPA.

Disappointing for sure. Aroma was very week , lacking that hops aroma that I was looking for. The taste wasn't much better. Malts overpowered the hops, which kills a DIPA for me.

Aroma of grain and a whiff of the compost pail. Standard orangey amber color with a slight foam. Carbonation is below par. It feels a little greasy in the mouth.

Intense, overpowering bitterness. A taste of spoiled fruit. Dishwatery aftertaste. Even a distinct hint of plastic. I find it hard to believe this is 10.4% as stated on the label. I thought it might be some bittering juice for a lager or six, but I wouldn't spoil a Colt 45 with this.

This is my least favorite brew from Oceanside. And maybe the single worst unspoiled DIPA ever in my experience. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at Baron's Market in San Diego. Bottle code is 082614, which is just six weeks ago if I read right.

Unbalanced malty mess. Almost no aroma, appearance is even quite off and the taste is an amateur home brewer level. This is less a dipa than an unclassifiable malty disaster.

Very malty, it overwhelms the hops. So there is basically no hop taste. Tastes worst than Sierra Nevada boot camp dipa

Bottle has date of 11/06/15, consumed 07/03/15.

Was at a TotalWine away from home in Rancho Cucamanga. Saw this brew and had a "RateBeer 93 or 94" tag on it. The ones that TW likes to use. Anyway never heard of the brewery or beer. Bottle looked cool. Eh what the heck.

Arrived to my destination in Phoenix. 8 hour drive calls for a beer.

A: dark orange/amber with decent off white head. Leaves good lace. Wasn't expecting the color.

S: malt dominates. Lots of toffee/caramel sweetness. Almost has a vanillaness to it as well. Hard to find the hops on the nose. Strange for a Cali DIPA.

T: I immediately regretted buying this beer upon first sip. A malty mess! Again like the nose, lots of malt upfront. Toffee-like sweetness with a toasty malt backbone. Hops finally come in on the finish. A sort of twangy pine taste. Maybe some grapefruit notes buried in there. Has a burnt ashy aftertaste. Not what you'd expect from a west coast dipa.

MF: average, not good nor bad.

O: highly disappointed. Would not recommended. Reminds me of those gimmick "craft brews" you see pop up at grocery stores.

It looks good, but the taste doesnt match.

The only way I can describe this beer is that it's a 40 oz (Old English/Steel Reserve etc) that smells, looks and is packaged as a CA IPA.

Too malty.

Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: Figueroa pint glass
From: Costco in Mission Valley (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $4.59
Purchased: March 29, 2015
Consumed: April 4, 2015
Misc.: Got two different possibilities with the born on/best by: 1) appears to be born on Oct. 29, 2014 (Julian calendar), and 2) other could be a best by Sept. 20, 2015. Neither one makes any sense and I’ll probably ignore everything about this.

Poured an orangish, honey, semi-hazy color with 2-to-3 fingers of khaki white, rocky head. Could see either flakes or pulp in the bottle before the pour and less pronounced after the pour in the bottle. Light bubble streams coming up from the bottom of the glass. Good amount of uneven, layered, foamy lacing. Below average retention. (Sight - 3.75)

Smelled earthy, rye hops up front. Also caramel, buttery sourdough bread, spoiled sour fruit, honey and grassy notes. (Smell - 3.00)

Tasted that 9.4 pct. ABV right away, which immediately had me shaking my head. Got buttered bread, earthy rye, honey, honey wheat, grass, unsweetened iced tea, boozy wheatwine, regular Goldfish crackers, spoiled veggies, caramel and light old grapefruit rind. Some peach and apricot late. (Taste - 2.75)

Medium body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, buttery, bitter finish. (Feel - 2.75)

That there could be a beer this bad at Costco was the thing I learned most from having this. This should be at Trader Joe’s and made by Minhas. (Overall - 2.75)
