Stallhagen Brown Ale

The beer pours with a fizzing sound. The colour is dark brown (40 EBC), the liquid clear. The two finger head slowly sinks down to a thick lid leaving no lacing.

The smell got prune-like sweet notes, a notable clean bitterness, caramel and roasted hints of coffee. Some alcohol and hints of vanilla.

The taste is sweet, smooth and roasted. Caramel malts, chocolate toffee and a hint of barbequed meat. There are some salty notes in the background. Medium to full body. The aftertaste is salt-sweet with some spicy bitter flavours. The long finish got notes of dried fruits.

The carbonation is medium strong, the short-lived smooth bubbles are small. The liquid is somewhat sticky.

A well crafted and very English brown ale. The salty flavours adds some extra depth. It will make a good paring with beef stew.

The beer is dark, coppery, amber, has a very thick and compact off-white head, leaving good lacing. Rather small curtains.

The smell is very much from the malt, as should be, honey, nuts, grain and some ripe pears.

The taste is sweet brown bread, porridge with honey and red apples.

Medium carbonation, small bubbles, soft and pleasant, a good body and a slightly dry finish.

A very nice, very malty brown ale. Stallhagen is btw in Åland.
