Pours with a mad creamy head. Real nice. Leaves behind a lot of lacing and sticks around about an inch thick. The first really strong smell you get is dark roasted coffee. There's a very slight hint of dark chocolate in the back but just barely. Tastes like a dark, heavy mocha. Like high quality black coffee with dark chocolate blended into it. Everything you expect from an imperial stout. The 9.1% ABV gives a slight warmth down in the bottom of your stomach after the swallow but is otherwise very well hidden. This is a stout that makes me proud of Arizona brewers.

22oz. bottle poured into a Surly Darkness snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a 1 finger fine, chocolate colored head with moderate to low retention. Beer is a dense, opaque black. Lacing is stringy and spotty with good cling and oily legs. Slightly above average.

Nose is chocolate yogurt, brownie, cocoa powder, and a lingering roasted malt presence. Lactose is very prominent. Aromatic. Decent though a bit strange.

Opens lactic. Milky and slightly tart. Brownie and chocolate at the start to middle. Some cocoa powder and roasted malt graininess. Prunes and grape sweetness with more fudge at the end. Finish is chocolatey with a sticky, sweet, brownie aftertaste. Like an imperial milk stout. Pretty good.

Medium bodied with low carbonation. Oily and viscous in the mouth and smooth going down. Thick and sticky going down with a lingering, syrupy aftertaste. Nice.

A surprisingly good beer that's different than I'm used to from the style but nevertheless very solid. Flavor is decently complex and the feel is really spot on. Definitely worth a try.

Big thanks goes out to micstache for this one as an extra in a recent trade! Thanks man! Served from bottle into a Green Man snifter. Poured basically black with a one and a half finger light brown head that subsided to one finger very slowly. Maintained phenomenal lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark fruit, wood, peanut, and dark chocolate. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, dark fruit, raisin, sweet alcohol, vanilla, and dark chocolate. It had a medium feel on the palate with medium carbonation. Overall this was a pretty decent brew. I used this as a night-cap after a long day at work and a few new beers also sent by micstache. That could have been a mistake as this brew definitely lived up to its name. Made for a rough day afterward. However, this was a really nicely balanced and flavored brew. I just wish the rest of the brew had followed suit. So close on this one as it had the makings to be really great.

I acquired a 22oz bottle through trade with a friend. The cap seal leaked during shipping, so I had to drink it on the spot before it became flat. Normally I would let it sit in my fridge at least 24 hours before consuming, so I may not have gotten an accurate impression from this tasting. The cap blew off while unpacking the box.

A: Over carbonated due to shipping complications with heavy head. Pours a bit thin but black and totally opaque. Thin, airy head. Decent lacing.

S: Chocolate, brown sugar, coffee, caramel, figs, and the usual deep flavors found in imperial stouts. Quite the enjoyable aroma.

T: Roasted malt, caramel, molasses, chocolate, followed by bitter-sweet coffee. At room temp no alcohol taste is present.

M: A bit too thin for an imperial stout, and it leaves me wanting that chewiness the style is known for. Crisp, light, and refreshing on the tongue. It's an easy stout to drink even on the hottest summer days.

O: Despite having a broken seal and over-carbonated beer, it was an enjoyable stout with flavors I enjoy. If it was more viscous, thicker, with a heavier and sticky head, it would be much more memorable. If you're looking for a high alcohol imperial stout that drinks like a regular stout, Inebriator is a solid choice.

I wouldn't mind revisiting this beer under better conditions.

Pours a solid black color with a huge unwavering tan head. Smells of light roast, dark pitted fruits, chocolate, brown sugar, and a whole lot of molasses. The flavor is a nice mix of burnt sugars and dark fruit. Light earthy hop flavor help provide balance. Medium to thick body with a light level of carbonation and a tart creamy mouthfeel. Nice imperial stout, I'm glad I got to try it.

A - Good looking beer, nice thick brown head that dissipates down pretty quickly, but leaves a nice lacing on the glass. Cool bottle.

S - Unfortunate. Vinegar is prevalent, I can tell there's coffee, chocolate and roasted malts in there but it's overpowered by the spoiled smell.

T - Same as the smell. There's definitely what would have been coffee/chocolate/roasted malt in there. Vinegar taste is again pretty bad.

M - Light for an imperial stout. Alc covered. Some roasty aftertaste but still the vinegar.

O - Damn, this must have been a bad bottle. I don't remember the vinegar taste when I had it before. Swing and a miss. Drain pour.

Difficult to judge this one, since it appears as though the batch has been infected, or they've over-carbonated - the bottle let out a crazy loud pssshh noise, and immediately started gushing like champagne, and it took me about 30 minutes to pour it into a glass, all the while the foam pouring out of the bottle, even when the bottle was 3/4 empty. Sure did like the taste of the foam I had to suck off as I waited though. All that crazy fluffiness aside, it is the promised opaque dark black color with zero transparancy, and the head is a nice tan color. I have to ding it for the crazy endless fluff though.

Chocolately, coffee, rich aroma. Smells like a nice, complex, huge stout.

Burnt dark malt, followed by a mild dark chocolate, nice balanced bitterness between hops and malt… not too sweet, not too bitter, complex flavor - very nice!

Moderately heavy, smooth, extremely heavy carbonation (at least when it comes to the froth, though it doesn't come across in the actual sips, which is good, so I feel like I can get a good feel for what it's "supposed" to feel like). Not dinging it for the froth - since it doesn't feel that way in the mouth.

It's a bummer about the bad bottle gusher, because I think this is a very good imperial stout. I have to ding it a tad for that, but other than that it's very nice, and I'd have it again for sure.

Bottle pour sampled at mrbubbler's tasting courtesy of Retsinis.

2011 vintage.

Pours an opaque black with a dark khaki head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt and tart fruit aromas. Taste is also of dark roasted malt with a sour/tart fruity finish. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer that seems like it could be slightly infected at this point.

From a 22 ounce bottle with no freshness date, bottle has a Day of the Dead limited edition artwork with a 2011 date on it. Poured into a Duvel tulip.

A: Pitch black with a thin brown head, this is how a RIS should look.

S: Very complex, I’m picking up a lot here. Overall this is very sweet with coffee, chocolate, light floral hops, toffee and caramel around.

T: Very sweet upfront with a nice roasty bitter finish, though mellow throughout. Tastes of sweet creamer and chocolate up front with some toffee hints and finishes with a nice mellow bitterness of roasted coffee and light hops.

M: This is very thick, whole milk thick and then some with almost no carbonation.

O: I like this a lot, it’s very sweet though making it more of a desert beer. I would love this with some cheesecake.
