What to drink on a February day that is a global-warming induced 60 degrees?
Instead of worrying if the climate had gone to hell, I did something I could control: I finished my bike ride on the 606 (along with a good portion of the bemused population) and selected a beer that is dark (since winter lasts two more months) and refreshing (since I had exercised in 60 degree heat.)

What a great combination: a dunkleweiss.
I got even more venturesome and decided to experiment on the pour.
First in weizen glass. The foam behaved, so I stuck my snout in and the fruit smells were there.
For the other half, I thought, why not a stange?
Mistake. Half the glass was head and I got only half a whiff of the fruit.
Learned something.

The rest was a good dunkle, probably interesting... but maybe watery.
I will buy it again... if I ever find it again.
As for the 60 degrees in February on Lake Michigan... that's a little too interesting.

Thick brownish head when poured. Beer has a golden brown color. Smells like wheat, with a hint of spice. Very smooth tasting, small bubbles, stays on the tongue a long time. This is one of my favorite beers by one of my most favored brewers. This can be an expensive beer if purchased in a restaurant but can be purchased at places like Beverages and More for a more reasonable sum. Their Hefe Weisse is my absolute best beer and it has a champagne quality to it. First exposed to this beer at Mille Fleur Restaurant in Sancho Santa Fe, CA. It was a great addition to the meal and took the place of champagne which I cannot drink.

Hopf Dunkle Weisse has an extremely thick, foamy, beige head, a hazy, lighter brown appearance, with bubble streams, and heavy lacing left on the glass. The aroma is of spicy, brown bread, and the flavor is of the same, with underlying tap water and low bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium, and Hopf Dunkle Weisse finishes semi-dry and dull.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance: medium brown hue with plenty of haze and an inconveniently huge four fingers of frothy tan foam atop. Not bad.

Smell: quite wheaty with what I fancy to be a hint of chocolate. There's a good banana character here as well, which I quite like. It works.

Taste: a light wheatiness with a good phenolic character and a generally refreshing flavor. I like it.

Mouthfeel: kind of disappointingly thin, especially for the style. The carbonation is pretty good which helps, but I feel like a wheat beer should have more to offer here.

Overall: not bad, but the lack of a really good texture hurts this beer for me.

Aroma: yeasty, spicy; normal German Wheat aroma profile.
