A half pint served on-tap at Bier Markt - Square One into a Hopf hefeweizen glass.

Appearance - Hazy and golden in color, a decent two finger head was poured with good retention that coalesces into a small thin foam cap.

Smell - Banana and clove with a middling banana aroma and a less obvious clove smell.

Taste - Pretty much same as the nose, straightforward and to the point. Banana and clove with a sweeter than average banana flavor and very subtle clove.

Mouthfeel - Smooth, well carbonated a bit stickier than other hefes I've had. Also a touch on the thin side.

Overall - Certainly a good hefe that went nicely with my Pastrami flammekueche but nothing I'd go out of my way to get again.

Poured from 500mL bottle into a weizen glass.

Appearance: light golden hue with moderate haze and effervescence. Head is four fingers of frothy white foam. Quite nice.

Smell: wheaty, with a banana/clove aroma that is a bit more toward the clove scale than I prefer. A little light overall, but nice enough.

Taste: lightly wheaty without even the light phenolic character of the aroma. It's decent, but not a standout.

Mouthfeel: light body with a moderate carbonation. Like the Hopf dunkelweizen, I don't really care for the texture too much.

Overall: a reasonable hefeweizen, but not an outstanding one.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a lightly hazy light straw amber with a big three finger white head with good retention and lots of pillowy lacing. Great aroma from opening through pour of sweet wheat, banana, light clove and citrus. Flavor follows with sweet wheat, light citrus, banana and a touch of clove, finishing with a hint of tartness. Great banana bread aftertaste. Nice light to medium body with sharp active carbonation. A classicly flavored and tasty hefeweizen, with nice wheat and hefeweizen yeast, great balance. One of the best of this style I've had. Glad to have found this, apparently new to my local market.

Pours a hazy light yellow-orange with a foamy off-white head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Tiny chunks of sediment are seen floating around in the beer after the pour. Smell is of wheat, caramel, banana, and spice aromas. Taste is much the same with caramel covered banana flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of spice bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with solid caramel and banana qualities that work together slightly better in the taste to me.

Serving type: bottle.

Appearance: Slightly opaque pear juice in color with golden hues. Bright white head that looks alive as it moves about. Head retention and lacing are minimal.

Nose: Banana bread, wheat, hint of orange peel.

Taste: Dough, crispy mouthfeel, a little orange and yeast.

Notes: a very nice example of the style.

Pours hazy golden, with a huge head.
Smells like a nicely spiced hefeweizen, nice clove, banana and nice green herbal notes.
Delivers. Wheaty malts, nice grains. Spice is mainly (heavily) clove, with some vanilla, covering the banana, which is mild, the lower acidic apple and the even lower lemon zest (which is great).
Hops provide the expected bitterness.
A decent, by the book, hefeweizen, nothing to say.
