I was looking forward to stopping here, but I must of just hit it at an off time as I found very little to purchase. Nice people and I'll definitely try again someday.

Good variety and looks to be better than most in the area.
They have a singles and mixed 6 pack area with a good mix of beers. The prices on singles look to be just slightly more than the full 6's and very fair.
Would be nice to see more locals as an out of state guy, but otherwise a nice place in the OBX area.

Super helpful staff that made great recommendations. Great selection that was very well organized. Love the pick a six option. How can you not love a place that will sell you a pint and let you shop?

Will certainly become a staple during our OBX trips.

Reviewed from notes taken a year or so back.

The most diverse offering of beers I've found on the Outer Banks. Fresheness dates were mostly withing code and prices seemed reasonable for a touristy area.

Good place to go shopping for the stuff you won't fined in smaller or less specialized shops.

Service was helpful. Even though the particular beers I wanted to find were not available the young woman running the register was able to tell me that nobody in the area would have the beers from the particular NC brewery I wanted to try since they don't distribute as far east as the Outer Banks.

Good place to check out. Easy to get to and find.

Chip's in KDH is a must for any BA's in the OBX. The staff is friendly, engaging, and knowledgable. The selection is as good as any you will find in the area. Plus, they have a good selection of cold beer in the cooler to your right as you're walking into the store. Since they added the bar area, I have enjoyed sipping on a beer (or two) as I shop. Chip's also has a decent selection of glassware.

Visited on a Saturday early afternoon in August as we arrived for a week in OBX.

A - Typically wine/beer store atmosphere, except for the rocking tunes. Need to try the attached wine/beer bar. I love the thought of browsing for my purchases while also drinking a high caliber beer.

Q - Many beers are available chilled. No complaints.

S - Service was excellent. Now they were not crowded, but the staff was quick to ask if I needed help. Provided excellent assistance when I did ask (about a Meritage for my wife) and we had a short converstation about the Doobie Brothers and how they were underrated as a guitar band.

S - Good selection for the OBX, but not mind blowing for some of us who might be from certain parts of the country or otherwise have a top notch store close to home. That said, there were still beers on the shelf that I had not had and there were sixes of my favorites.

This is the store I wish was in Moyock which is much closer to me. Very nice selection of beer, even had a nice selection of branded glassware and some nice gift packs I hadn't seen before. The guy there working was very nice and attentive to my needs and questions. Having some beers on tap was just the tipping point that made the store special for me.

In my part of VA going and having a pint and shopping for beer are two separate ventures, but at Chips you can do both, and they seem to have good stuff on tap.

This store again had some freshness issues same as the Moyock store, but then again there aren't many stores that don't.

If I lived closer this would be one of my main go to shops.

Pretty much the standard beer store, in terms of atmosphere and quality. The service was average, and the staff was friendly, talkative, and knowledgeable about their products.

As for the selection, this is where Chip's does a great job. There are several shelves stocked with beers. They have an awesome selection of individual bottles, so that you can create your own four or six pack. Also, they have every bit as impressive of a six-pack selection, as well. There are also beers in coolers for you to drink a cold one while you're there.

The prices at Chip's are what you would expect pretty much anywhere else. They had beers ranging from low end, all the way up to 15-20 bucks. It all depends on what you're looking for, but in terms of "market value," it's about average.

Chip's is a great surprise for any beer lover heading to the Outer Banks. The staff was very attentive and friendly, and seemed pretty knowledgeable about beer in general. The atmosphere is laid back and seems happy and welcoming. Every time I went in the service was fast and really good.

This place has a great beer selection, best in the Outer Banks. Not only do they have a very good selection of 6 packs and 12 packs, but the singles for sale selection was amazing: the place literally has hundreds of beers to choose from.

Good local selection and beers from around the US and world, this is the place to go for any craft beer fan. The wall of singles is set up in various styles and the cold selection of singles was very good as well. The prices are on the high side, but being from NY they were average to me so I didn't have an issue spending quite a bit of money each time I went it. I did not sample any of the beers on tap, but that is just another great option thatg they offer. This is THE place to go for beer in the Outer Banks.

When in the outer banks I always stop here a couple of times. It is pretty much the only game in town. Big city caliber as far as selection goes. As with most places that are the only game prices are a bit high. When the owner or his wife are in service is great, when they are not in service is fine. I emailed ahead of time and after one or two messages they held a few bottles for me (lips of faith and Allagash), stuff I can't get at home. They do have a couple of taps so it is nice to have a drink in hand while shopping.

This place has the ultimate beer/wine selection on the Outer Banks. Any beer lover needs to stop by Chips on their way into their favorite vacation staff. The staff there is very friendly and knowledgeable.

If you are looking for beers from around the united states and around the world this is the place to go. Very well organized and easy to find the beer you want. Do not hesitate to ask the staff for some help because they are very helpful and knowledgable in all things beer. They offer various tasting opportunities throughout the week as well.

I was in Kill Devil Hills for NYE weekend and went to visit Chip's after reading the great reviews here. From the moment I walked it, I liked the place. My twin brother and I were greeted warmly upon entering and quickly made our way to the beer section.
Being from the Washington DC area, I am used to paying slightly higher prices, so I was pleased with the single bottle prices.
The staff was super helpful. We monopolized a lot of one gentleman's time by asking for local stuff. We talked to him about other collaborations and he even told us a seafood market to hit up upon request!
I thought the selection was pretty good, and I liked that it was organized by style of beer. Although, I think I would almost prefer if the same brand was together.
Overall, a great, great store. I didn't try anything in the tasting room, but they had some good stuff on tap, such as DFH Burton Baton.

Went here New Years Eve, rented a house for the weekend and heard about this place. Great store, nice selection of NC beers and lots of otehrs. Great Avery selection as well. Chip, or that who I think helped us, was super friendly and helped us find some North Carolina gems that don't leave the state. Looked like a fun tasting room as well but we didnt' partake. Great store, no need to bring your own beer to the Outter Banks when Chip's is there for you, unless you want a higher ABV beer. They know their stuff.

Thank you BA for helping me discover a store in a place I've been going to for 25 years!

Went here for the first time this past summer and again over the Christmas holiday. My family stays up north in Duck, but the drive down here is very worthwhile.

Very friendly owner who explained the layout and answered questions. Large selection of single bottles as well as six packs. Owner said pretty much everything is available as a single so he was mostly fine with breaking up 4/6 packs. Noticed a large selection of craft cans too this past visit, which will be good to remember next summer when more beach time is possible.

Nice to see Outer Banks Brewing Station bottles here along with other NC locals (Highland, Mother Earth, Duck-Rabbit). Also some midwest stuff that I can't get in California. Bells, Founders, New Holland, Ska, for example.

Some cool glassware along the back wall.

Guy at check-out even carried out the heavy box I put together out to my car. Great service! Chip's will be a regular stop for me from now on.

A: Very nicely laid out. Not much refrigerated, but well organized shelves. Clean and decent lighting. About half the store was dedicated to beer and the other half to wine.

Q: Almost all of the beers they had were high-quality brews from good international or domestic microbreweries or craft breweries. Some main-stream beers as well for "normal" customers, so something for everyone here.

S: Owner was super-friendly. He greeted us at the door, hung out without being imposing, but offered help whenever we looked like we needed it. And he struck up a conversation w/ my dad to keep him occupied while I shopped, but still interjected useful advice for me as we went.

S: Mixed selection of six-packs and single bottles - about 50/50. Domestics, imports, sections specifically for lagers, ales, Belgians, etc. Some local stuff from Eastern NC as well as some brews distributed to NC that you can't get in VA (eg. Ska brewing).

I visited Chip's around 8/16/11 while vacation at the Outer Banks, NC.

The store was easy to find in the Mile Post 6 shopping center on the east side of the highway. Inside there was primarily 2 rows of shelves and a couple cools that held beer. There was nothing here that was exceptionally good or difficult to find, but the selection of local beers were very good. There was some Eastern Carolina stuff like Mother Earth and Weeping Radish as well as a good variety from Bells, Ska, Founders, DFH. Not much in terms of Belgians, but the locals were well represented. The cashier was very friendly asking if we needed help and chatting with me as we checked out. There was a pretty good selection of glassware, but nothing that blew my mind.

Overall, I think that this is a very nice place to have in your back pocket way out from civilization at the beach, there are probably 50 stores within 30 minutes drive of Philadelphia that have similar selections. In fact, almost every Total Wine I've ever stepped into in DE, NJ, and NC has the beer repertoire and price of Chip's. That said, the most important thing in beer stores is location, location, location and there ain't no other game within 50 miles.

Stopped by to pick up some North Carolina locals that I can't get in Georgia. Ended up leaving with a nice mixed selection of Mother Earth, a bottle of Black Radish from the Weeping Radish, a bottle of the Lemongrass Wheat from the Outer Banks Brewing Station, and a sweet Terrapin mason jar pint glass that ran 5 bucks (sells for $16 on the website for some reason!). Service was decent, they helped me find the Mother Earth I was looking for but mostly left me alone. Nice shop, definitely the only option in the area!

Spent a week in the Outer Banks and made sure to make a trip here after looking at some of the reviews on BA.

This is definitely a must visit for anyone in the area tourist or not, they've got a great selection with an average price range. I live in VA so its only one state away but there were still a large number of brews/breweries I don't regularly see. Very awesome service and organization. Found a couple gems on the wall o beer and also picked up a six pack. Staff was super friendly and very helpful to some shoppers around me. Seemed very knowledgeable as well. Its a great stop!

Wanted to stop back by before leaving but unfortunately didn't get a chance to. Really wish I would have!

There is actually another Chips about 45 minutes down 158 that's hidden away as well in a shopping center with a Sonic and Burger King. They weren't open when I went by but its a nice first or last beer stop on your way in or out of North Carolina.

A great selection of single beers availablewith multiple microbrews and imports. Organized by beer type and really have an impressive selection for a shore town place. They have a peparate tasting area that features both wine as well as beer on tap. Beer samplers can be ordered in flights of six and offer interesting selections. They also have food which I did not try, but seemed of good quality and nice variety.
The prices are reasonable, but not cheap. They have six packs and cases available as well.

Stopped by on our last day of vacation, wished I found it sooner. Great selection. Service was fine, they left us alone long enough to fill up a few six packs. And then asked what we liked and made some great suggestions (Two Hearted being one).
We were happy with the few micros at the Food Lion or Brew Thru. But our vacation would have been much better had we stopped here sooner. So make this your first stop in the Outer Banks, or spend twelve hours driving home wishing you had.
PS. make it a point to find Duck Donut's as well.

I was staying in OBX this past week and forgot to check BA on where to go for good brew (I know... I know...).

So, luckily this place advertises in both the local vacation mags and at the hotels "wall of 400 beers"...

Milepost 6 Plaza sounds like a big location... don't blink, you'll miss it, look for the Front Porch Cafe in the strip mall on the west side of 158 ("the big road").

So I walk into this closet... the store is pretty small but (insert lame book/cover hack line here).

Being from New Jersey the selection of Bell's immediately smacked me upside the head. Sure, the section is small but is packed solid with those you would expect (sierra, dfh etc.). There is good representation of the area (the local brew pub, duck rabbit, highland, weeping radish etc.). The mix 6 option is always welcome for beer browsers. The beer section is well organized (by style in singles, brewery in sixers) and clean.

Service was not bad but was more non existent, someone walked by wearing a DFH burton baton t, and I was obviously loading up on a ton of beer... and there was really no one in the store. I can't say that it was "bad" but it wasn't overtly great like I get in certain places (ahem, oak tree in nj). The cashier did haul one of my boxes to the car for me (kudos).

Here's what I bought to give you an idea of selection/pricing from a new jersey perspective:

Bell's Two Hearted 6-pack $10.99
Bell's Kalaazoo 6-pack $10.99
New Belgium Fat Tire 6-pack $8.99
Outer Banks Brewing ESB (1pt) $4.99 ea
Founder's Nemesis single $5.99
Duck Rabbit Milk Stout single $1.59
Highland Black Mocha Stout single $1.69
Ska Decadence 2ipa Bomber $5.99
Ska ESB can $1.69
Ska Modus Hoperandi can $1.89
Bell's Oberon single $1.99
Tap House Room 21 Pale Ale single $1.39

I doubled up on most of the singles... so my total tab was just under $100.

Definitely the must stop.. I mean it is nice that Food Lion (the local supermarket chain) carries Fat Tire and some pretty damn good stuff.. but this is a BA must stop, especially those from out of state.

The wife and I were in the Outer Banks for a wedding this past weekend so I decided to check out BeerFly to see what, if any, good beer stores were in the area. When I saw the reviews for Chip's Wine & Beer Market I knew we had to stop by.

The store is very well stocked and the staff was friendly and seemed knowledgeable. I was really only looking to pick up a six pack to put in my suitcase so I wanted to get some brews that aren't available in Florida. I ended up getting 3 from Founders, 2 from Duck-Rabbit and Modus Hoperandi from Ska Brewing. I was very happy with these.

My only disappointment was when I asked if they had any Founders Breakfast Stout in stock and was told that they didn't have it yet but they would be getting a case of Kentucky Breakfast Stout in stock next week which is one week too late for me! They were supposed to get it on Thursday but it was not in their latest shipment.

I would highly recommend Chip's to anyone visiting the Kitty Hawk area of the Outer Banks.

I am probably Biased since this is my locale store, but I love this place. They are really friendly and helpful. They definitely know how to keep customers happy.

The selection is huge for being on the OBX. I have yet to work my way through half of them. They always have a selection of seasonals too. No one on the beach has as many beers as they do. You simply won't find certain styles elsewhere.

They carry a couple of NC brews that you might not find other places like Duck Rabbit, Highland, and Mother Earth.

The prices are very reasonable. I love grabbing an empty six pack carrier and filling it up with new beers. Building your own six pack is mos

If you are a BA on the OBX you should stop by.

very good selection for the area,
wall of singles and a couple of aisles of 6 and 12pks,
one stop shopping, beer, shirts, glasses and if you need some wine, a very good selection available

beer prices were with in reason, about the same as some of the smaller shops in my area, many were priced the same as the local Harris Teeter

very knowledgeable and attentive staff, I was looking for selections not available in VA, and the clerk was very helpful, and knowledgeable about what was available in both VA and MD,

a must stop for any beer geek traveling thru OBX
