This place was my first stop on a madison beer run, I talked with one of the employees on the phone before I drove to the store and he was very knowledgeable and helpful.

This is a small store, but had a huge selection crammed in this store. I was very impressed with the quality beer found in such a small town of Mcfarland. Hopslam was here also lots of founders, bells, and a nice selection of 750's / bombers.

Really easy place to find. Small country town with great hospitality. This will be a place to stop at again, no doubt about that.

Stopped here while driving around Madison. No-one but a lunching clerk in the store when i arrived around 2. Told him i was checking out the good beers, and he directed me to the back with a recommendation of Lake Louie. Found 3 LL selections (including the Impy Stout and Scotch), some Central Waters, Tyranena, Capital, NG, South Shore, lots more. Prices were quite good and the selection was good too. On top of the local stuff, there were several sixers and singles from farther afield. I'd call this a must stop if you're in the area.

Update: 7/31/8 No more Bob's in the name. This store has been sold to an owner of three other Madison stores. That should mean more buying power, and lower prices according to the clerk. They had a good selection from the big names in craft brewing around Madison but no gems of one offs from the area. The singles were interesting but nothing to unique. I will have to see how this store progresses.

This is a tiny little store that is rather unassuming from the front. The wines are in the front and the beer is in the back. They have a great selection of local brews with many, but not all, sold as singles. I was looking for WI beers not found in IL and I was not disappointed. They have a wall of coolers for local beers and a small 2 door cooler that held most of the imports.
The owner was really friendly and gave us lots of suggestions on what was good and new along with some free swag for buying so much beer. He said he really wanted to focus on small wineries and breweries that you don't see at other stores but offer just as good or better products. They were having a charity raffle with some good beer related prizes and some interesting glassware that you don't see very often.
This is a nice beer store that is close to the ring road around Madison making it a new stop for me when I'm in the area.

Bob’s is a great shop located just a half block east of Hwy 51 south of the beltline. They carry a wide selection of local and regional craft brews including Lake Louie and Central Waters. They also stock quite a number of solid Belgian, English, and German beers. The last time I was in I purchased some Big Eddy’s Imperial Stout and a bottle of Nogne Dark Horizon. Their wine and liquor selections are also superior to most stores. Prices are comparable to other shops in the area. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. Highly recommended.

From the parking lot, the place looked small enough to be a bait shop. Luckily the awning sign proudly proclaimed their micro & import beer selection. A couple was walking out with a couple New Glarus 6-packs, which was a good sign. Even better was a printed out seasonal press release from Lake Louie taped on the door.

Inside the place was packed with bottles and crates, lots of wood paneling that gave it a homey feeling. All the way back to the coolers, where we found the beer selection. A strong regional craft selection: Ale Asylum, Lake Louie, New Glarus, Central Waters, etc. I found everything I needed and more. NG Unplugged singles, plus many other choice options at affordable prices. There was a walk-in cooler for cases, but I already had pulled a ton of stuff, so I didn't venture in. The smaller cooler on the left side held some Belgians and the NG Unplugged, with some dusty Belgian glasses on top of the cooler priced cheap. Worth a stop in the area.

On the outside this place doesn't look like much and once you get inside past all of the wine the beer selection is pretty good and all kept in coolers. I've been here a few times and the young dark haired man knew a little bit about beer and I think actually remembers me now. The old man just looked at me funny when I kept bringing up microbrew after microbrew for about 20 minutes and then finally decided that was enough. The prices are the same prices you would find in the Madison area and sometimes a little less. This is a great place to stop whenever we get into Madison.

I have made this my go to place when visiting New Glarus Brewery, the selection is getting better all the time and the staff seemingly become warmer too.

It is a small place in a small city but do not let that deter you. The selection of microbrew and imports is astounding, at least for me. I olged over the selection like a kid in a candy store for about 20 minutes choosing just the right twelve beers to enjoy. Bring your wallet though as the per brew price is rather pricey. $2.60 a bottle for Flying Dog Gonzo Porter, the staff is very nice and helpful with any questions that you may have. Also they have an execellent selection of wines if you are into that as well or if you need an excuse for your wife. Will definitley be visiting this place often!

A special thank you goes out to nflmvp for telling me about this little treasure off of the beaten path.

Bob’s McFarland Liquors is located in a fairly narrow, but deep building. This is not meant as a negative, but from the outside my first thought was baitshop.
The beer is located to the rear of the store. There is a small section of warm craft and microbrew beers. The variety was pretty impressive. (I found Three Floyds beers in 12 ounce bottles. I live less than 5 miles from 3F and this was the first time I ever saw 12 ounce bottles).
Oh well, back to the review. The reach-in cooler was lined with a variety of interesting craft beers from all parts of the U.S. of A. I was able to put together a six of unusual beers from all over the place. Three from breweries I have never heard of before.
They have a very flexible mix-a-six policy here, you’ll see.
There is also a large walk-in cooler with items that may or may not be displayed in the reach-ins. The lady working here, on this visit, came out from behind the counter to see if she could be of any help. I told her that I heard they might have a few hidden treasures lurking on the shelves.
She mentioned that from time to time customers will go into the walk-in and put together a mixed six and then change their mind and set it down. Rare beers are sometimes found in these “discarded” six packs. So a slow, thorough search through this place can get you some very rare and/or highly prized beers.
The woman that waited on me was one of the nicest people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting in a beer store. She directed me to some of their newest and most unusual beers and I left the store very happy with my purchases.

Nice little place to go and find a nice selection of beer. It looks small from the outside, and it is, but they have a very nice selection of beers, and kept in coolers. When I stopped in I was able to talk to one of the younger workers there, and he really knew his stuff and made some nice recommendations for things I haven't had before. The rest of the staff have all appeared to be at least as helpful as they can, and with a smile on their face. You can probably find more selection downtown Madison, but this place holds some real treats, and you may be able to score some real gems from here if you look hard enough. Price was competitive, this is definately a routine stop for me when in the Madison area.

I stumbled on this place while visiting a friend of mine. You'd never guess from looking at the front of the store that they'd have a nice beer selection....but they DO!

Actually, for the size, I'd say that they are outstanding.

The couple of times I've been there, I've found that they are always willing to help me when I have questions and there is a younger guy who works there who is more than happy to discuss beer with you. He's the one who turned me on to Lake Louie, Mr Mephisto.

At any rate, there's a nice selection of singles....it appeared as if almost everything was available in singles....both craft beers and imports, alike.

The front of the store appears to be mostly wine but the entire back wall is coolers. That and another double wide cooler are nothing but local, regional and national craft brews and imports.

Prices seem right in line with what I expect to pay.

If you're from Madison, you've got to check this place out, if for no other reason than you didn't know they existed.

I'll go back there every time I go visit my friend in McFarland.
