This beer started slow for me then I warmed up to it. It has a decent hop character with some Belgian yeast flair to it that gave mild esters of clove, and hints of apricot. Refreshing for a summer BBQ but not a go to beer for me.

On-tap at J Brain's, on to the beer:
The light golden color topped with a short lived head invites me for a sip. Webbed lacing forms around the glass after I take a few sips and the beer's level drops in the glass. The beer has a clean aroma of grass and citrus, while the taste takes an interesting route. On the hoppy side, with notes of melon, wool, and floral. Sticking to style, the beer has a dryness after each sip, making Soul Shine an acceptable stateside Belgian-styled Pale Ale.

Poured into a pint glass. Nice bright amber color with a small white head. Not much aroma - some floral notes but not much else. The taste was diasppointingly thin. Some citrus but little of the Belgian estery notes I was expecting.

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a crystal clear, honey-gold coloring with steady carbonation in the body, and a fluffy, bubbly, off-white head on top. Aromas of berries, evergreen, subtle clove, nutmeg, bubble gum, and coriander. Very subtle nose. Flavors are fruit and spice forward, with a solid dose of citrus notes, specifically orange and grapefruit, blending with notes of coriander, clove, nutmeg, all spice, and grains of paradise. There is a subtle caramel character in the backbone, made tangy by a subtle yeasty funk. Fruity esters linger on into the aftertaste, with some bready characteristics, as well, all on a light, effervesced, smooth body. The finish is light, slightly frothy, and with an evergreen linger. Refreshing beer.

Really hoppy for a pale ale.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a deep golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus hops. Taste is surprisingly hoppy, citrus, some malts, smooth and easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall an enjoyable beer, but loses a point for not really tasting like a Belgian pale ale, drinks almost like a mild American pale ale.
