This may be my new favorite! I've always been a fan of a good Hefeweizen, and this is everything a Hefeweizen should be!

Whoa whoa whoa, nothing about this beer says "hefeweizen", yo. Looks and tastes like a fruity pale ale (you know, 'cause there's nothing cloudy, bananay or clovey about it). That said, it isn't a bad beer, just an awful example of the style.

Bottle poured into pint glass.

A- Nice bright, murky orange. Minimal white head. Very nice looking hefe.

S- Prototypical hefe nose. Big banana notes, and clove. Not much else. No real spice aside from the clove. No alcohol.

T- The front follows the nose, with nice banana and clove notes. On the back there is a strange, slightly solventy sourness that is pretty off putting.

M- Light, and easy drinking. Not bad, but a little more texture and a little less watery feel would be nice.

O- This is a pretty good hefe, and if it weren't for that sourness on the back end, it would be damn good.

A: Cloudy yellow in the pint glass with
characteristically low carbonation and thus
scant head and lace.

S: The scent of banana is apparent with little
else distinguishing

T: Wack. The taste of Banana is too much for my
taste in beers. I've found that this banana
flavor is what tends to seperate a good Hefe
and the not so good Hefes. The banana is
there in many Hefes but this one is just too
much. This beer also leaves a little acid at
the back of the toungue that I don't much
care for in a Hefe. I really look for the
clean finish in these "dirty" beers.

M: Thin with a little body and a weird fizzy
feel.

D: As I move into Hefeweizen season this one
will bring up the rear on my list of what to
keep handy.

Sour apples and tart hard candy on the nose. I don't think it's supposed to smell like this.

Straw-yellow in color with a crisp BIG head at first but the head completely disappears very quickly and leaves no lacing.

Again with sour apples, very tart, almost puckering. Tastes nothing like it should. It's super carbonated, and a light body. I'm guessing I got a bad bottle. I will review this again when it's fresh.

Hazy orange/yellow pour, white head. No lace.

Plenty of banana and clove and spice aromas, but there's an acidity there that is slightly unusual from my experience with the style.

Citrus, clove, light banana, and tart citrus. I'm not saying it's bad, but I just prefer light fruity sweetness as apposed to this more tart and citrus approach.

Light bodied, crisp, and slick.

Not my style of hefeweizen, but I can see this as something that a sour fan could find some joy in.

I picked this beer up in a mixed six pack and was pleasantly surprised. While I do enjoy wheat beers in general, I tend to shy away from some of the wheat beers that have a spicier taste. This beer, however, had more subtle spice flavors and was lighter in character than comparable beers such as hoeggarten. I gave this beer a high rating because of its amazing drinkability, the fact that it would make a great summer beer, and could appeal to even the most stubborn of domestic light beer drinkers. Bust out a case of this at your next barbecue, I'm sure it will go over well!

Served in my new Devil's Backbone weizen glass.

Do you feel the love? I don't know if I do, but I'm definitely drinking it. It pours a lightly hazed pale straw topped by a very short-lived half-finger of white foam. The nose comprises orange peel (kinda past ripe), lime, coriander, clove, wheat, and a pinch of cardamom. The taste follows pretty closely, though with added emphasis on the lime and newcomer lemon zest. A touch o' banana finds its way into the background as well. The body is light, with a moderate carbonation and a fairly crisp finish (especially for the style). Overall, this is just slightly above average for a hefe at best...something's a bit askew with the citrus and the feel. Worth a shot, though.

A - Pours a dirty brown (much darker than most Hefe's) with a 1/2 inch of rocking head that has some kick ass lacing.
A not so impressive twist off but would bring in the BMC drinkers...

S - Smells of mild wheat and hops. Mostly spice of coriander and clove with mild fruity yeasts.

T - Well it's quite a good representation of the style with balanced yet strong spice and a fruity yet dry yeast character. Little hops and mild wheat yet they do give me a pleasant drinking experience with a fresh water taste.

M - Light to medium its fairly easy to finish.

Overall it was a great beer and I just found out it was bottled 12/22/11 so it even drinks great after 6 months of age. Recommended!

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a cloudy dark golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of banana, clove, spice. Taste is good, refreshing, banana's, spices, wheat, very easy drinking. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid beer.

This beer pours a clear gold color with a thick head that disappears rapidly. The aroma is fruity with some hints of dough and vanilla. It's flavor is citrus, mainly lemon with honey notes and a hint of peach. Strangely missing for a hefeweizen was the cloudiness and banana in the aroma. It has a medium, bubbly mouthfeel. Starr Hill The Love is a good beer, a bit different than most hefeweizens. Very refreshing and drinkable. Highly recommended.
