Pale gold color, slightly hazy. Pours a big mousy white head, creamy and long lasting.

Crisp, slightly hoppy aroma, but fairly clean. Honestly smells more like a German lager than a hefeweizen.

Somewhat sweet with a little bit of clove initially, develops a tartness midmouth and carries a sweet-tart flavor into the finish. Didn't see any date on the bottle, but really tastes like it might be past its peak. I've had it on draft in the Crozet, VA area before and remember liking it more. Some oxidation character, with an unpleasant bitterness on the tongue in the finish.

MF - quite thin body, and moderate carbonation. Carbonation on the low side for the style.

Overall - The example in front of me is not a good hefeweizen. I think it is somewhat old and possibly oxidized, so take my review with a grain of salt.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass.
A--A hazy, translucent yellow. Minimal head, no lacing or retention.
S--Yeasty, sweet, no wheat noticable.
T--Very sweet. Banana, wheat with a mild trace of spice. A bit dry/tart on the finish. Excellent taste that is a nice take on the style.
M--Crisp, with moderate carbonation. Easy drinking & very representative of a wheat beer.
O--Fairly flavorful for the style. An excellent drink for a hot day (it was 98 in Philly today).

Starr Hill The Love, poured into a Penn Weizen glass.

A hazy tangerine hue with as much yeast swirled in that I could muster. The head has an inch to boast about. Nice fluffy look to the surface foam. Seems immovable, so far.

There's a nice wheaty aroma to this one. Shows off amounts of funky banana, light grassiness, and thick slabs of white bread. Some citrusy notes that include navel orange and papaya. Faint bubblegum. A pretty nice nose, overall.

Big time German wheat malts. More grassiness is exposed early and finishes out a little stronger. Has herbal hop presence with more white bread notes. The orange-y citrus in the nose is tamer and the banana is even further behind. Lightly tropical in the fruitiness that is here. Slower to pick up yeast esters. Doesn't have any real faults, just that, in this case, less is not more.

Has a thinner feel than the appropriate creaminess that I always expect. I can describe the body and weight as sluggish, and that's about it. At least, it's that. Feels clean with that perfectly held-back level of carbonation that adds just enough intrigue to an, otherwise, pretty smooth drink.

A favorable American hefeweizen. The label might be a little tacky, but this wheat ale is legit. Easy to enjoy and simple enough to understand. The nose has some extra delights to appreciate. Wish I had another bottle to fill this big weizen glass with.

From the sampler pack - bottle date 5-8-13

Pours a hazy straw yellow with small white head which receded quickly

Smells like a wheat beer. Earthy, sweet, and spice notes like clove

Tastes great. Clean, refreshing, and perfect for a hot summer day. Nice and sweet upfront, then melds into an earthy spicy flavor on the way down.

Mouthfeel is light, with crisp finish

Overall this beer is fine. I know what I want from a summer wheat and this hits all the right notes. Its not life changing but if I wanted that I would not have picked up a wheat beer. Not sure why some of the reviews are so negative, its a fine beer for what it is.
