Underrated. Maybe I'm drunk but I like it.

Appearance: minimal head, minimal carbonation, tan in color, clear

Smell: orange sherbert, grapes--almost white wine like.

Taste: orange, lemon, and wheat

Mouthfeel: sweet, light bodied and moderate carbonation

Overall: A pleasant wheat ale that I will get again if I can find it on tap. Very fruity, but not overly sweet. I could have several on a warm day.

Smell: Very fruity smell, citrus and mango. Some hops and wheat.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth light to medium bodied. Taste of grapefruit and mango with light hops and wheat.

Overall: Pretty good brew. Not what I expected.

Pour into a pint glass.

Golden color with very little, to no head. The smell of fruit hits you soon as you open the bottle. The first sip has my mouth trying to figure out how many different flavors I put in it. The peach is clearly dominant, with hints of apricot and pear...I believe. It's refreshing in a weird way. It's very dry, which is good for a summer beer. I have to stop after just one....way to sweet to drink all night.

12oz bottle, a beer called 'sunfish', but with a picture of a dog on the label. Ok.

This beer pours a clear, pale golden yellow colour, with four flabby fingers of puffy, tightly foamy, and yet fizzy off-white head, which leaves some layered streaky lace around the glass as it steadily recedes.

It smells of dried peaches, sugary, but still zippy grapefruit, semi-sweet pale and wheat malt, and a faint earthy, leafy bitterness. The taste is bready, grainy pale malt, a bit of spicy wheat, chewing-gum level grapefruit and peach fruitiness, a weak stoniness, and ethereal weedy hops.

The carbonation is quite hollow in its low-key frothiness, the body medium-light in weight, and mostly smooth, just a wee pithy character (origins hard to determine) poking away at my palate. It finishes trending dry, the bottom having dropped out from under the fruit, and the stark graininess of the wheat ascending.

Not a bad summery tipple, the choice of fruit combination a good one. Maybe not all that complex or heady, but that's not the point - when the weather outside is (a different, and opposite kind of) frightful, stuff like this really hits the spot.

Poured into shaker pint on tap

A: lightly hazy dark straw color nice head dissipates to a film

S: nice grapefruit zest smell

T: nice grapefruit and citrus taste then that light bready wheat taste very refreshing

M: light crisp clean finish

O: this is a refreshing beer and I really enjoy the citrus notes from the hops I'd buy this on tap if I saw it again it's very underrated I think this is what FFF Gumbalhead was trying to do but failed

Sea Dog Brewing Co. "Sunfish"
12 fl. oz. brown glass bottle, no apparent freshness dating
$2 @ Weos Market #231, Conshohocken, PA

Notes via stream of consciousness: Sunfish? I wonder what that refers to. And the label reads "ale with natural peach & grapefruit flavors added"... I can't help but feel this is Sea Dog's jump onto the tropical fruit bandwagon. Let's see... clear deep golden, almost orange, beneath a short head of white. Unfortunately the head retention and lacing seem to be limited right off the bat. Oh well. It smell like peach, that's good. Peach gummie candies. Just a little bit of grapefruit in there. It's nice, a bit candyish, but pleasant and welcoming. As long as the flavor isn't the same we're OK... uuhhhhh, but we're not, it's actually very much like the aroma. There's a malt component to it as well, but the peach comes on pretty strong, and it's not very authentic tasting, it retains that sugary candy character. Again, the grapefruit is at the back. It's not nearly as sweet as the aroma suggests though, so at least there's that, and in fact I think it's fairly well balanced. Light-medium in body, or medium-light, however you want to take it, somewhere right in between. Moderately carbed. Delicately tingling. The grapefruit mainly shows in the finish with a light touch of acidity that helps to balance it. Eh, overall it's not a bad beer for the hot summer weather but there are other beers that have done the peach better; I won't rate it against those though, I'll let it stand on its own.

Served from tap in a 16 oz (473 ml) conical pint glass at Sea Dog Brewery in Topsham, Maine.
A: Pours a crystal clear, golden with a slightly rose hue, a less than quarter inch head, low retention, no appreciable lacing.
S: Aromas of peach, pink grapefruit, and honey.
T: Semisweet with peach flavor predominant up front. Citrus and cherry/cranberry notes maybe appreciable. Little bitterness.
M: Light bodied with only very light carbonation.
O: This is classified as a American Pale Wheat Ale, but I really did not appreciate too many elements of that style. This would appear to be a Fruit Beer with the peach flavor so strong, it basically tastes like a peach soda. How that flavor was arrived at it is of interest.

This beer did not do it for me.

When poured into my glass, a fizzy head bubbled up and disappeared almost immediately.
It has a fruity smell. Peaches come to mind.
Taste is fruity too. Peaches or apricot.

There is some slickness to the mouthfeel. Syrupy, sweet and sticky.

This is more like peach flavored soda than beer.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into pint glass.
Aroma- Great citrus and wheat mix.
Appearance- It looks like summer! Awesome looking murky golden hue.
Taste- I think this is one of the best American Pale Wheat Ale's I have had, love the citrus and wheat mix, well balanced.
Palate- a light bodied beer with moderate carbonation, has a nice citrus zestiness and is semi-dry.
Overall- I gave it a perfect "5" for its beer style category. This is a great summertime session beer and it is refreshing.

Not a fan of the flavor. Tastes like ginger ale.
