impulse buy at check-out at trader joe's. have a feeling it's going to be bad and already regret the purchase by the time i get home.
Appearance: huh looks like a lager. 'bout like budwieser with less head. that head run's for the hills and it's gone in 10 seconds...
smell: night quill and pumpkin to be found. like fake cookies or something...not so pleasant
taste: now that's bad. god ### i have a six pack of this?!? i think i'll give this away to trick or treaters or something. i've had some decent pumpkin ales before. this is budwieser with cinamnin. again no pumpkin flavor anywhere in this brew. and it's worse than bud...this is no ale btw
mouthfeel: at this point who cares but yeah it's thin.
drinkability: low because it's horrilbe tasting. this is a bad joke. i would drain pour this but i'll just plug by nose and drink it for the buzz.
the 5 bucks spent on this sixer could been spent on a 12 packs of hamm's and i would be much happier. this is my new worse beer ever.

Wow, this is a terrible pumpkin beer, and an even worse beer on its own. The pumpkin taste is so fake it's almost unbearable. I tried many pumpkin beers this season and Shipyards is barely ahead of this one, which isn't saying that much, but Sea Dog's is so atrocious. I wouldn't have one again if someone paid me. Maybe if they brewed with real pumpkins and revamped the whole recipe I would try it again but steer clear of it now.

Got it from trader joes here in vegas. Never had a pumpkin ale was eager to try.

A = Pours a yellowish copper with a a very slight fizzy head that I could never get too much of even pouring it very violently. The very little head fizzes away quickly and does not really lace at all. Gave it a 2.0 because it is clear.

S = Not much of a smell at all really, faint hint of spice

T = Its like they mixed a packet of "pumpkin pie" spice powder into some watery beer. According to the box these were not expired and yet it had an unpleasant sourness to it. Not very good and the flavors did not meld well at all.

M = Pretty standard for some watery beer.

D = Its really light but because of the taste I knock them back really fast but don't really enjoy it or anything.

I hope I find a better example of pumpkin ale somewhere.

gifted a six of this and, well its just ok, I'm righting this in mid winter and still have one in the fridge, hoping one of Mrs Nebbies Gf's stops over and gloom it of on them. more over a spiced beer than pumpkin ,not bad but no other fall beer is left in my fridge either.

Yellow. Beery head.
Aromas are not especially pleasing. It smells exACTly like a box of cookies and peanut-shaped marshmallows. Rubbery reductive notes join in too. Tart, light and astringent with flavors of raw chaff along a very engineered tasting, fried pastry flavor (like elephant ears or Taco Bell's Cinnamon Crispas.) Overall, dry.
This is flavored, mediocre, very light ale. Best to avoid. Perhaps the worst pumpkin beer I've ever tasted.

Urine yellow and sparkling but some sort of infected if this carbonation is for real. Three, four, inches, of exploding head piling up but not sticking around - but only on one bottle. The others ranged from flat to live but not possessed.

Smells of weird moldy wheat over plain, bland malt and something odd - could that be the pumpkin? Hard to choke down due to a strong chemical character, the fakeness begins and ends this beer. For flavor I get vegetal notions and a sweetness that could be pumpkin, though the flat bottle tasting more of "pumpkin." Reminds of old Natty Light kegs in college with some spice added.

Seriously, what are they thinking? This is blonde ale with wheat and some cheap pumpkin essence. Trader Joe's customers, you're getting ripped off something fierce.

Picked this up at Trader Joe's in Columbus, OH. Best enjoyed before June 07.

The body is a pale golden color with a white head that had no retention and shrunk to a thin ring atop the body. Smell was sweet with some hints of spice. Taste is semi-sweet, some pumpkin and spice, but it doesn't taste natural. Mouthfeel is very thin, almost flat and a bit watery. Not very drinkable. I'm not even sure that I can finish this one.

Appearance: Amber color, dark enough that I couldn't see through it. Had a thick little head which bubbled, then went away quickly.

Smell: Heavy on the pumpkin with a fruity scent. All sweetness, with no trace of bitterness whatsoever.

Taste: WATERY. Not very sweet but not bitter either. Has only a hint of pumpkin and spice, and most of it is in the aftertaste. All in all, it doesn't taste of much of anything.

Mouthfeel: Thin, with only a slight aftertaste (which is bad, being that the aftertaste has more "taste" then the beer itself). Leaves nothing on the palate, pretty much "goes without a trace."

Drinkability: Really nothing any good here. Barely any taste, thin as water, and there are plenty of better pumpkin beers out there. Do yourself a favor and buy one of those instead.

I am winnowing down the backlog of bottles so that I CAN return to The CANQuest (tm) and since I just had a pumpkin beer, I figured that I would have another while the first one was still fresh in my mind. Tomorrow night is looking like Oktoberfests/Marzens, but for now, it is pumpkin.

Another screw-top bottle! I had no idea, so I prised it open for the Pop! Once I realized that I had been duped, I initiated a heavy-handed pour that garnered three fingers of foamy eggnog-colored head with light retention. This had a weak nose, reminiscent of the worst: Shipyard Pumpkinhead. Color was Yellow-Gold (SRM = 4 - 5) with NE-quality clarity. This called forth the Gelt Gang of Mammon, Midas & Croesus, all of whom wanted a taste. Mouthfeel was thin and watery. Taste was slightly spicy, but that was all. Did they mail this one in or clone the aforementioned Pumpkinhead? Either way, it was not indicative of their capabilities. Finish was semi-dry, begging the question of where were the spices? Either do it wholeheartedly or give it a pass. I should have given this a wide pass.

12 oz bottle, Best By May 2007.

Pours a crystal clear pale copper. Wispy thin khaki head. Smells of pumpkin pie spice. Clove, nutmeg and cinnamon.

Sweet light malt folowed by the medium level pumpkin spice. Finishes bitter with the faint aftertaste of hops. Very thin yet crisp.

Hey, wait a second. This is Sea Dog's mediocrity of a golden ale, Windjammer, with some pumpkin spice thrown in! This is no pumpkin ale! Boo!

Best before March '06, so this wasn't an old bottle.

Pours a dull golden color with no head whatsoever and no bubbles and no nothing. Aroma is very spicy, some pumpkin but mostly ginger and nutmeg and cinnamon. Taste is same but with less pumpkin and more spice. Ridiculously spiced. No hops but still very dry. I need atleast some sweetness and some hop flavors. This might have been a bad bottle but it was a sad effort all in all.

A - Poured a dep gold/light amber color. Crystal clear and no carbonation bubbles. The off white head, or lack there of, quickly dissipated and left no lace.

S - Some aromas of pumpkin spices, cracker notes, vinous aromas, and some paper.

T - No pumkin flavor to be found. Spices are there and the paper comes across. Has a slight saltine cracker flavor to it.

M - Light, thin, and Highly carbonated. Very has on the palette.

D - I wont go looking for this again.

Pours a clear copper, thin white head forms, goes fast, no lace. Smell is sweet, lagery, some spices, very bland and unappealing. Taste is worse, wheat, kind of lemony/citrus, little bit of spice, lager finish, very watery and near flavourless, unpleasant lingering flavour. Mouthfeel is light bodied, very thin, with high carbonation, very aggressive. Not so good.

Pours a pale yellow with very little head.

Smell has a very slight hint of pumpkin spice, even a small cider aroma.

Taste is horrible though, from the moment it hits the tongue, especially on the sides. Taste is very light, similar to sparkling water in both taste and carbonation, thin on all accounts. Any hint of spice from the smell is lost on the taste.

Highly not recommended, far better pumpkin ales out there.

This beer pours a pale yellow gold with a small white head. Not an impressive looking beer. The smell is a weak sweet malt and veggie aroma thats not too pleasant. The taste is a thin sweet malt, cinnamon, and pumpkin flavor that's not too strong or good. A poor excuse of a pumpkin beer. The m/f is light ,thin, weak with the flavors mixing poorly. This is a beer that I would rather forget and so should you.

Poured aggresively into a pint glass. Pale orange (pumpkin-like?) clear appearance that has a bit of foam to start but it quickly disappears leaving no remnants. Smells like pumpkin pie spice - cinnamon & clove, but it also smells wet. A nice attempt, but if this were pie, I wouldn't eat it. Taste is weak - the spice is there, but it is totally watered down. Basically this is flavored water. Mouthfeel is nothing special at all - this is over carbonated and under flavored. I'm not going to pour this down the drain, but I wouldn't have another one. That said, this might be decent over some ice cream or as a glaze base for bread pudding. Recommendation to avoid.

Served from a bottle and poured into a pint glass.

Color was very light - almost like a pilsner with a touch of honey color. Minimal head that disappeared quickly with no lacing. Carbonation was fine. Their was very little nose to this one - some spice but not much - thought I smelled a faint touch of hops. No pumpkin smell at all. Taste was mostly very faint pumpkin spices with not much else going on. Not much going on in the mouth either. Drinkability is okay - it's not the worst beer in the world but it is not a very good version of a pumpkin ale. I am inclined to think that the brewers took a pilsner or other light ale and just added some pumpkin spice to the brew. If you are looking for a pumpkin ale, look elsewhere.

Looking for a pumpkin beer as good as the one I had at a defunct microbrew here in Cleveland. Everything in bottles so far has been marginal at best. This one was at least a pumpkiny tasting beverage, but there wasn't much else. The smell was bad, cheap ale with "pumpkin spice" and the appearence was a little better than average, with good foam, good head, a little darker that cheap ales. Mouth was below average with an odd sour twinge at the end and taste...

Beer or something with cinnamon in it Very unwelcome wash that was like a sour soda pop. There really isn't anything else.

So, no buy again. Still looking.

Poured a Sea Dog after Mother's Day dinner hoping to take a nod off the old pumpkin pie and enjoy the flavors a bit longer.

Sea Dog Pumpkin poured a darker yellow color (reminiscent of Miller) and had a very bubbly 1-inch head that dissipated at an alarmingly quick rate.

The smell is overpowering and full of nutmeg. It is rather ghastly as I am always hoping to enjoy the Pumpkin in the pumpkin ale.

The taste has little to no pumpkin, followed by nutmeg, ginger and cinammon. Not a really good flavor for an ale I usually enjoy.

Mouthfeel is the same as a large macro...very bubbly, devoid of smoothness.

For drinkability, I would put this one at the lowest mark as I did not even finish the bottle. No sense in ruining dinner completely.

Poured from a 12-ounce twist-off into a Berkshire Brewing Co pint glass.

A: Poured a pale golden yellow color with a tinge of ruddy orange to it. The fizzy, one-finger head of foam actually retained pretty well but left no lacing.

S: A really deep whiff reveals some aromas of allspice and ginger, but otherwise the nose is clean.

T: Flavor is slightly sweet and grainy at first, then a bittering malt flavor rolls in alluding to an ESB-style ale. This is misleading, however. Subsequent sips reveal the thin, watery flavor nearly devoid of pumpkin with a sharp, bitter spiciness in the finish which leaves behind artificial pumpkin spice flavoring. Sorta nasty.

M: Mouthfeel is thin and watery for the most part. A little bit smooth near the finish, but spices ruin it.

D: I really didn't enjoy this brew enough to make it a session option for the fall. Give it a try, but there's not enough malt body and authentic aroma to mask the watery, slightly metallic flavors in the pumpkin ale. Wasn't impressed by this Sea Dog offering at all.

12 oz brown bottle with a freshness date on the label. "Ale with pumpkin flavor added" ... don't tell me they added some sort of pumpkin essence.

A- No head at all after a kick fizzy foam, clarity is fine with a dull golden color.

S- Smells like a cold cup of that cheap mulled cider powder.

T&M- Very crisp with a watery body. Soda-like carbonation. Thin malt character, minimal hops ... very hard to pick out. Are there any hops in this beer at all ... I wonder. Cheap mulling spices and a faint grain middle to end. Very dry finish.

D- I have tasted a few non-alcoholic beers that have more flavor and character than this. A sorry excuse for beer IMO and there are far better pumpkin beers out there.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Light amber color with a thin white head.

Smell: Mostly pumpkin spice, like nutmeg, a little hint of wheat.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth light bodied. Taste of light pumpkin spice and light wheat.

Overall: Don't bother with this one. One of the worst pumpkin beers out there.
