Notes / Commercial Description:
This beer is one of a kind! Four different malted barleys combine to create a distinctive, full-bodied beer with a roasted nuttiness, uniquely enhanced by a hint of hazelnuts. Smooth and creamy with the nose of the Willamette hop, this porter is a beer style unto itself.

Best by October 2004

Pours a dark ruby brown with a lacy brown head. Smells of roasted malt and sweet nutty aromas.

Taste is roasted dark malt, hints of coffee flavors and sweet chocolate. Hazelnut flavors underlying. Bittersweet finish. Smoky aftertaste. A really tasty and smooth porter. Prety good stuff.

Pours a dark brown with a nice two figer tan head. Nice bit of lacing that remains for the length of the brew.

Smells very, very weakly of coffee.

Tastes weak and washed out. Like drinking coffee that's watered out. No hazelnut to speak of. Minimal hop and a hint of burned aftertaste. Yum.

Way overbubbly and annoying in the mouth. Worsened by the weak taste.

Drinkability...yea.

This brew pours a dark brown color with red hightlights, and a minimal head that last a little while. A lace is left behind that is very nice. I am a big hazelnut smell pours out of the glass, I am a big hazelnut coffee fan, so this is my cup of tea. A medium bodied full flavored hazelnut coffee flavor which is what I like. A robust coffee flavor is also present in this beer. The hops are mild, they are over powered by the hazelnut and coffee flavors which is the only thing I do not like about this brew.

Cheers

Dark brown with some ruby highlights; head rises then vanishes. Strong aroma of hazelnut coffee. Sweet, candylike caramel malts with brown sugar, nuts, coffee, chocolate. Very little hop bitterness or dryness. Mouthfeel thin, sparkly, like soda pop. There is an unfortunate resemblance to Dr. Pepper. All in all, a flavorful, interesting beer, but I scoured the shelves today craving a good, roasty, restoring, thick porter/stout and this ain't it. Something you would give to a novice friend to let them know that dark beers don't bite. Coffee fans might like it too but they really should seek out Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar before settling for this.

Picked up a six of this at my local Case'n'Keg. Sea Dog is not one of my favorite breweries but porters are one of my favorite beers and Tom is trying to introduce new beers so.....

It's got great color and smells wonderful. When you first smell it you are not sure what it is you are smelling even though you know what it is. Then you know, aah yes, it smells and taste like hazelnuts and the flavor is nice. Sweet, mild and a definite different taste, like a cross between a porter and a mild stout. Although the head does not last very long, the beer taste is fine all the way through and I'm looking for another glass

The beer pours a mysterious garnet color the head enormous in size, frothy in texture as it evaporates; leaving a fine sheet of lace to cover the glass. The aroma of Black Walnuts, sweet caramel, malts with hints of coffee to seal it off. Apropos in its sweetness at the start, top is middling in mouth feel with a robust hop spicy bite, the carbonation sufficient, dry malt aftertaste and one fine porter in my book.
