On cask at the Belfast Beer Festival

Pours with a rich copper body, thick dense egg white head... patchy though, a strange looking head. Some patches of lacing up and down the glass

Smell, immediately hit with a whack of fresh english aroma hops soaking in freshly boiled egg water. Sulphurous notes, some biscuity malt, a few tea like tannins

Taste, crisp hop bitterness followed by a chunk of crisp biscuity malt. Not very well blended though, they come your palette in waves. Some slight sulphurous notes once again which really lets it down

Let down by the off flavours and aromas. I dunno if the cask was a bit pokey or its just the way the brew is

A 500ml clear glass bottle with a BB of Aug 2012. Described on the label as a red autumn ale.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A clear coppery-amber with good carbonation. Forms a decent head of frothy off-white foam that disappears within a minute. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with hints of roasted grain and stewed hops. Distinctly malty, with a whiff of vanilla in the background.

Tastes of caramel malt with a dry bitterness. Notes of roasted malt, grain and stewed hops. The standard fruity yeast flavour that is common to every Shepherd Neame brew, along with a faint hint of diacetyl. Quite dry, and slightly harsh upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with decent body. Somewhat astringent. Aftertaste of bitter caramel malt.

Hmmm, so-so. Pretty malty and with decent balance, but deadly dull. There's just nothing to hold your interest; another hum-drum ale from Shepherd Neame. Pass.

A - pours a bright amber with a head that quickly subsides to a thin ring of small bubbles
S - malt, biscuit with a floral hint
T - not surprisingly, malt biscuit. Hint of toffee followed by caramel. The hops come through on the farewell but do not linger too long. Fairly dry finish.
M - medium bodied, fairly heavily carbonated with a dry finish.
O - A decent tipple which I would buy in the bottle again. I would make a beeline for a draught pint though because the bottle version was a little too carbonated for my liking.

Clear 500ml bottle, best before Aug 09, drank Nov 08.

Poured into a Hoegaarden Grand Cru glass.

Deep amber reddy coloured beer with a good off white foaming head (at first).

Claims to be an Autumn Hop Ale, there was a hoppy aroma, but not very strong, I detected more sweetness like moslasses and caramel/toffee.

Tangy and spritzy, it tastes almost sharp and with a dryness that bites. It gets drier in the aftertaste as well.

The rear label says it is rich, well it isn't in my opinion, it is a bit watery for a 4.5% brew with very little depth of body.

Not the best beer from this brewery, that I believe produces too many average beers instead of concentrating on their better, core products.

A clear red/brown ale with an off-white head, little lacing and small curtains.

The smell is mostly malty, toffee, nuts, salt bread.

Starting with brown bread, some crust, oranges, grass and nettles. Tasting quite hoppy.

Medium low carbonation, spritzy, watery, medium low body, a dry finish.

A fresh brew, some more hops than I had expected.

500ml Bottle bought from Sainsburys...

Poured a dark red / burgundy colour... Head was creamy tan and was quite big and foamy with small beading. Lasted quite a long time...

Aroma - Quite sweet, caramel, malty, banana, some vanilla too..

Taste – Caramel, strong maltiness, pear hints, nice hop notes...

Feel - Slightly sharp but smooth after. Not that much carbonation...

Overall - An excellent beer... extremely drinkable.... highly recommended...

An average beer for this brewery, I much prefer the Spitfire. This was quite nice tasting, and the nose was good, had some nice hop aroma and a little bit of fruit. The taste had a little more fruit to it than I am used to from a bitter, but it was a bit thin on mouthfeel.

Pours nice amber with decent off-white head that lasts for a couple of minutes before fading to few spots on the surface, patchy lacing. Aroma is fruity with fresh floral hops.

Taste is caramel with fruity malt and a touch of floral hops and very light, but long lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light with not so pleasant rather too lively carbonation.

I like this beer, it is very drinkable and nicely balanced standard English Pale, one of the best Pales I have had from the bottle.

The colour is dark red-brown. The low head is beige.

The smell got notes of caramel, plums, toffee and some sharp bitter notes. It is not perfectly balanced.

The taste is as unusual as it is interesting: It includes matured flavours of toffee, wood, cheddar cheese and roasted nuts. The aftertaste is dry with notes of citric bitter notes and butter.

The carbonation is fresh; the liquid is a bit creamy.

A very nice, hoppy beer. Could be a bit more balanced, though.

Half litre bottle, poured into pint glass. Dark auburn colour, clear, one finger tanned head, decent retention. Aroma was initially faint citrus, as it warmed there was a more pronounced Cascade smell, also had notes of farmyard. Tasted fruity, had notes of grapefruit. Bitterness was balanced, finish was long, bitter and wheaty. Medium body, well carbonated, slightly coarse feel. Overall good refreshing Pale Ale/ESB with decent character.

Aroma puxado para o lúpulo, sabor sedoso, levemente maltado com final amargo, mas sem exagero. Cerveja equilibrada, boa pro frio.

Nice copper colour, very thin head that disappates quickly. Lightly hoppy in the nose, with bready, slightly nutty malts.

Nutty, bread malt flavour. Light, fresh citrusy hops. There's a mild buttery taste in the background. Comes off maybe as more of a red ale than an EPA.

Nice, mild carbonation. Nice session beer.
