A 500ml clear glass bottle with a BB of Aug 2012. Described on the label as a red autumn ale.

Poured into a Sam Smith's pint glass. A clear coppery-amber with good carbonation. Forms a decent head of frothy off-white foam that disappears within a minute. Aroma of sweet caramel malt with hints of roasted grain and stewed hops. Distinctly malty, with a whiff of vanilla in the background.

Tastes of caramel malt with a dry bitterness. Notes of roasted malt, grain and stewed hops. The standard fruity yeast flavour that is common to every Shepherd Neame brew, along with a faint hint of diacetyl. Quite dry, and slightly harsh upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth and tingly, with decent body. Somewhat astringent. Aftertaste of bitter caramel malt.

Hmmm, so-so. Pretty malty and with decent balance, but deadly dull. There's just nothing to hold your interest; another hum-drum ale from Shepherd Neame. Pass.

Bottle 05-2016. Aroma of toffee, herbs and strong iron. Beautiful dark red coloured beer, clear. Light tan, two fingered head, reduces to flat. Quite nice lacing. In taste british malts - caramel, toffee, but not very sweet. Earty and herbal aftertaste. There’s also very nice and slightly diacetyl. Full bodied, but refreshing. Medium herbal bitterness, grows during drinking. Carbonation is too strong at beginning, then turns very soft and dissapears. Alcohol isn’t sensible. Very nice, sessional beer, but with iron.

Aroma puxado para o lúpulo, sabor sedoso, levemente maltado com final amargo, mas sem exagero. Cerveja equilibrada, boa pro frio.

Half litre bottle, poured into pint glass. Dark auburn colour, clear, one finger tanned head, decent retention. Aroma was initially faint citrus, as it warmed there was a more pronounced Cascade smell, also had notes of farmyard. Tasted fruity, had notes of grapefruit. Bitterness was balanced, finish was long, bitter and wheaty. Medium body, well carbonated, slightly coarse feel. Overall good refreshing Pale Ale/ESB with decent character.
