This imperial brown ale an obscene amount of seven different types of malt give our imperial brown ale an earthy, caramel aroma and flavor with just a touch of sweetness and a medium-dry finish. The beer is big and bold, and not for the faint of heart!

Taste: Rich, malty, roasted beans, brown sugar, caramel notes. Same with the nose.
Dark brown in color, clear, with a smaller head and lace. Medium body and smooth.

Lovely deep mahogany brown color. Prominent head. I didn't get a ton of aroma but there was some nuttiness and dark roast aroma. The taste is great in my opinion. Brown sugar, maple, hazelnut, a touch of coffee. It is pretty sweet, but I've had much sweeter. I had it with apple glazed chicken and that combo of nutty sweet maple and the apple....wow. Could maybe use a touch more bitterness balance but I loved the flavor. The feel was spot on. Pretty heavy, silky smooth. Moderate carbonation.
Ale asylum has been inconsistent the last few years, and have always been total hop heads. But this shows they can do a damn good malty beer along with some of their excellent Belgians. At this point, I actually think I prefer their malt forward beers.

The reports of this beer being retired are greatly exaggerated. I just bought it and it's real good.

A bit too syrupy and heavy, without sufficient roast or bitterness to balance it out. Solid chestnut flavor, turbinado sugar (or maybe panela - something unrefined), almost a rum note with the boozy sweetness. Best for cool nights.
