Pours hazy deep amber color with white foamy cap. Strong citrus with notes of grapefruit, orange and floral hops with deep malty caramel backbone. Amazing IPA at 54 IBU’s & 7.5% ABV.

Hazy copper color with a substantial tan head that provides excellent lacing, the nose is ripe tangerine and malt - significant malt.

The tangerine flavor is forward, with the toffee malt keeping thing smooth and quaffable. This is a very nice Midwestern IPA, IMHO.

Slightly cloudy orange/copper colored pour with an off-white head. Dank and citrusy aroma. Resiny pine and orange flavors comes through nicely without being overly bitter. Has an oily mouthfeel. Can also taste some malty bread. Finishes with a mild piney and earthy bitterness.

Nice earthy hop aroma with a earthy malt character too. Interwoven is some fruit and done nicely.
Darker than most with a amber towards orange and brown and somewhat cloudy. Off white head that starts big and settles with some lacing.
Earthy character continues in taste with a bigger than most mouthfeel too. More fruit here but still earthy in character. Strong streak of bitterness that calms down as it warms, but lays on the tongue with the hop flavor on a lengthy finish. The fruit it interesting as this isn't' a fruit dominant take but it's there, kinda' always, and never leaving but never dominating either. An interesting unique take.
Thanks John.

On tap at the brewery. Clear orange. Smells of grapefruit, orange, and a lot of pine. Tastes of mostly pine. Very resiny. A little bit of orange brightens it up. Moderate bitterness. Medium body. Another solid IPA here.

Copper color with off white head.

Aroma of citrus hops with a bit of dank with big caramel with biscuit and toasted bread.

Flavor is balanced towards malt over hops with medium/high caramel and biscuit, followed by medium citrus hop flavor.

Feel. Medium/high body. I prefer a lighter body for an IPA. Medium carbonation.

Overall. I was a little disappointed with this beer. Bedlam is one of my favorite beers and Ale Asylum makes great beer. The taste and body is more of a malty American Amber then an IPA. If you love malty Midwestern IPA's, this is the beer for you. If you prefer dry NW IPA's, pass on this beer.

Pours a copper color with a medium sized white head. Has a faint piney earth smell. Taste is citrusy bitterness with a piney aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light and easy to drink. Overall, good example of an IPA.

Smells hops, malts, citrus, pine

Tastes hoppy, grassy, bready malt. Can taste flavor starting to decline. Finish is bitter dry pine linger. Higher side of medium carbonation and smooth medium carbonation

Nice beer - I may be catching this bottle a little late, but I liked it quite a bit. Reviewed from a lagunitas mason jar.

Mouthfeel is the real stand out as it keeps sweeter malt characteristics from laying too hard on the palette. Nice citrusy and pineapple notes.

Needed to try something new so grabbed this yesterday because I had heard the name before-probably from my son. While it does not have an in your face hop nose which many look for in IPAs these days I found this to be quite good. It has more of a balance between hops and malt than one usually finds in an IPA. Am looking forward to a 2nd bottle but from my 1st impression this is a very solid beer.

I always look forward to the Velveteen release, I wish AA made it year-round. Poured from a bottle to a Speigelau IPA glass. A nice cloudy orange-copper pour followed by an aroma of citrus goodness. The citra hops jump out at you immediately. Also catch a grassiness/floral quality in the smell. Taste pretty much follows suit, a nice use of the citra hop....grapefruit, mango, some tropical fruit character, and some grassiness. A nice cracker-malt backbone provides balance and lends to a very drinkable beer. My favorite Ale Asylum beer.

Lived in Madison for a few years, think Ale Asylum is completely overrated, yet they've managed to make a truly great beer with this one. Unlike most of their offerings, this isn't just bitter hops for the sake of a hoppy beer. The citra is showcased beautifully—I can wrap my tongue around it and taste its intricacies without a barrage of bitterness overwhelming me (as in Hopalicious). Slightly light in the body, but really an outstanding beer.

Calling all Todd the Axe Man lovers! Step up and slap down your Hamilton for a six of the official "poor man's Axe Man". Now, am I saying it's an exact clone? Don't be daft. What I am saying is that at that price, the tip-top hop and malt quality for this tasty little bottle of hop cones is one that should be enjoyed by all and often. The downside? It's seasonal. Damn you Ale Asylum!

Favorite beer I have ever had. It hits me perfectly, citra hops are awesome with this beer! Was seasonal they were smart to bring it back ASAP. Might be my favorite brewery

1/11/16 Chicago (16 oz draft pour at Finley Dunnes into standard pint glass). Copper brown pour, minimal head and carbonation. Pleasant aroma of citrus, hops, and pine. Thin texture, easy and enjoyable beer to drink. Hops and citrus taste. Very good beer. I'm glad Joe offered me a taste pour, and I gladly ordered a second after finishing my first pint. Will be looking for more Ale Asylum offerings based on this offering, my first from this brewer.

On tap. Poured a clear, golden-orange color with a small, tan head of foam. It smelled of orange, pineapple and toasted caramel. Sweet citrus fruits with a toasted caramel finish.

12oz bottle gifted to me by mr-jj. 02-05-2016 is the date on the bottle, which I can safely assume is the best by date. Served in a large snifter.

Pours a pretty clear copper color with a small white head and not a lot of carbonation. Smell is a little hard to describe -- I can't pick out particulars, but it smells hoppy and very tasty. I think there's a little pineapple and some citrus.

Taste is a letdown from the aroma (not that it's bad, but the aroma is awesome). Heavy bitterness, which in essence is a little nondescript, but has some nice floral and citrus notes around it.

Mouthfeel is medium-heavy and nice. Overall, very nice beer.

Poured into an IPA glass from a 12 oz bottle from my Wisconsin friend. Best by 2/15/16.

Color is slightly hazy orange with a two-finger white head - good retention and some nice lacing. Aroma is very nice - citrus, tropical and juicy. Flavor is nice - juicy citrus with a mild, pleasant bitter finish. Medium body with good carbonation. Overall, a very nice IPA that I quite enjoyed.

On tap. Look is dark Amber. Smell is lots of juicy hops. Citra rarely fails to deliver. Tastes follows the nose. This is so much in my wheelhouse. All kinds of juicy citrus and pleasant bitter. Not a lot of malt to get in the way. Feel is sticky but not heavy or boozy. Overall I really love this one. Will have again

Very orange color, nice white head with lots of lacing. Upfront hop aroma, citrus, grapefruit. Bitter flavor, not over the top but strong and hoppy. Full mouthfeel, lively carbonation. As good as Zombie Dust or PseudoSue and probably harder to find outside Wisconsin.

Well-made beer that's definitely under the radar. Has all the qualities of a Zombie Dust with just a bit more malt and EtOH. So just a bit tempered on juicy hops but it's nice to see an IPA with a bit more malt.

Velveteen Habit pours a dark bronze color with a big lacing head. Big fresh floral and hoppy aroma. The taste has a big hoppy flavor, floral notes, but finishes very sweet. Body is a little flat, but good flavors. Overall, its a good coast IPA that is on the sweeter side.
