Appearance - Medium-dark brown. Appears to have a slight haze. Short tan head. Persistent.
Smell - Caramel malt and grassy hops.
Taste - Malt character is a little darker than I expected. Dark coffee and a little burnt toast. Hops a little milder than expected. Grass and vague citrus.

This is a decent brown. Has some nice hop to it that give some pine notes. Also present is bread. The Mouthfeel is medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall this is a solid beer.

poured 12oz bottle into snifter. Bottled 1/27/15

A - Pours dark brown with 1.5 finger off white head. Fades to a ring and leaves behind thin lacing on the glass.

S - Aromas of roasted malt, molasses, hint of brown sugar and some piney citrus hops..

T - Tastes of sweet caramel malt, roasted malt, some coffee and a mild citrus pine flavor from the hops.

M - Medium body, smooth creamy texture, nice, soft carbonation, mild hop bitterness and dry finish.

O - Solid India Brown. Only ever had Dogfish India Brown and this seems to on par with it.

Freshness date of 05-10-2015:

Pours shiny medium brown with a thin lasting creamy head. Lacing sticks.

The smell is of pine/cocoa, toffee and nuts (pine nuts?).

The taste is of pine, some citrus, with sweet cocoa (a touch of cookie dough), toffee and nuts. Both brown ale and IPA characteristics linger through the finish without clashing.

It is pretty smooth with a medium-ish body.

A nice blend of two styles that could clash but work well here together - IPA and Brown.

From a tulip glass. I drank it two days after the first bottle hit the shelves.

Dark brown/mahogany in the glass, with a little reddish tint. Hazy. Half-inch head which didn't stay too long.

Nose is more hoppy than you'd expect, some roasted malts too.

Taste has a blast of piney hops first, then more malt on the finish. Malt has a slight smoke/wood taste which I liked. I didn't detect any chocolate or coffee.

The hop bite combined with the malt reminded me a bit of Ambergeddon, although with more of a dark malt/smoke feel. A bit dry but good body.

Overall, very solid but not spectacular.

Great beer, one of Ale Asylums better offerings. More hop forward than I was expecting. I feel this competes with DFH Idia Brown Ale.
