Good head over cloudy juice. Citrus aroma definitely dominates as advertised. Fine lacing. Taste echoed the citrus aroma and had surprising bitterness which was not bad. A good brew that I’ll come back to.

Canned 7/22/17. Kept ice cold.

Honey amber color with 80% opacity. The head is egg-foam yellow and is 3 fingers tall. The head recedes and destroys the glass with lace. Nice dome in the middle after receding.

Aroma is pretty fresh and juicy, with notes of pine, melon, hop resins, and orange peel. I also get some golden plum with agitation.

The flavor is a mixture of hop oils, grapefruit rind, grass, pine needle/pine bark, sweet garbage, and butter. There's a freshness there that keeps it from totally tanking in this category, but it has to be damn near ice cold or else it falls apart immediately.

Feel is moderately carbonated with a slight creaminess, but mostly oily with an alcohol dryness.

Overall, Ale Asylum has not impressed me much. Last year I brought back their Hefeweizen and this year their IPA. Both singles. Neither one of them have very good. This one is just gross.

Great mix of Cascade hops with a balanced malt backbone. Under 6% ABV so makes it impressively drinkable for a higher IBU IPA.

Bottled at the Silver Dollar in Madison WI.

On tap at the brewery. Clear orange. Smells of grapefruit and caramel malt. Tastes of grapefruit and pine. Moderate caramel malt sweetness. Back end is very resiny with a moderate bitterness. Medium body. Pretty good.

The appearance was a nice hazy orange to amber color with a decent transparency about it that let carbonation be seen rising. There was a one finger white foamy head that dissipated and left some light lacing here and there. The smell had a nice earthy herbal yet bitter hoppiness running in and out but combined. The taste was bittersweet all the way through with a nice herbal/earthy light citrusy aftertaste. The finish was somewhat dry. On the palate, it sat about a light to medium with a decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was there too as there was a decent harshness about it but nothing overbearing. Overall, I say this was a very nice APA well worthy of having again.

Super cloudy, nearly turbid golden orange body with a fluffy light tan head and a smattering of lace. There might be visible carbonation, but it's too opaque to tell. It smells a bit floral and herbal, as well as offering orange rind, tangerine, caramel malt, and the brewing area of a brewery: raw ingredients, sourdough, wet malt. The taste is less interesting but is still good with powerful, if monotone, citric hops, moderate bitterness, and mild toasty malt. The body is medium weight and delivers somewhat coarse carbonation, luckily not enough of it to jab the tongue too much.
While it didn't rock my socks off, it did satisfy with stout hop flavor and bitterness while offering some contrasting elements as well, and avoided the orange-hop/caramel-malt cliche. I think being unfiltered actually helped the nose and flavor, and so for the first time ever I'm a fan of it, even if the appearance score took a hit.

The beer pours a golden yellow color without very much head. What there was hung around a while, but seemed a little on the short side for an APA.

The smell is delicious - immediate citrus and in the lemon and orange realm versus the usual grapefruit. A nice sweet malt smell emerges once you get past the hops. Just when you think it is done, some floral and green grass smells show up. Very nice.

The taste more or less follows but opens with a little kick of bitterness. Definitely getting lemon and orange and just a bit of grapefruit, minimal on the pine resin flavors. There are some green notes floating over the top along with a floral component. For a 5.6% ABV, the alcohol seems quite noticeable and the taste stops short

The feel bothered me - it has a light burning feel that I will attribute to the alcohol even though that seems like it couldn't be true at 5.6%. Maybe because the citrus and malt components kind of fall off the alcohol emerges?

Overall it is a good beer, enjoyable enough to drink. I found the "burn" to be an annoyance, however. The flavors are good enough to weigh in heavily, but they do seem to fall off rather abruptly. I would recommend giving it a whirl.
