Very Good
Notes: With a fury of hop flavor and a strong malt backbone, this West-Coast style amber is part ale, part sensory eruption, and All-American. Ambergeddon is brewed with passion and is best enjoyed that way.

Bottle from shigadeyo.

Poured a clear copper color with an average fizzy white head that was mostly lasting and had good lacing. Good citrus hoppy aroma. Medium body with slick texture. Heavy bitter smooth flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration.

Good brew.

Another bottle that has been lurking in my fridge for far too long...

Appearance: Poured from the bottle into my Sam Adams Pint Glass, the beer is a cloudy, robust coppery mahogany color. There's about an inch worth of off-white (almost tan) colored head sitting atop this brew. The retention is impressive, and there's sticky rings of lacing on the glass where the beer comes to settle.

Smell: A bit hoppier than what I expected, with a classic amber ale sort of malt sweetness.

Taste: Like the smell, this one is much hoppier on the palate than what I expected. It has some nice malt throughout with just enough dry bitterness to provide some balance. Surprisingly good, actually.

Mouthfeel: Carbonation is good, body is light to medium...perfect for this warm summer night.

Drinkability: This beer isn't going to win any awards for huge, over the top flavor...but it is perfect for relaxing on a summer night with some dinner and a movie. Very sessionable, and very drinkable.

Pours a hazy dark amber/copper color with a 1.5 frothy off-white head with decent retention, slowly fading into a thin ring. Minimal lacing left behind.

Slightly earthy aroma with some floral, citrus hops and a sweet malt presence. Hints of pine needle, pine and orange peel along with some caramel and biscuit.

Medium bodied with a blast of bitter, earthy hops up front that linger over the sweet malt backbone into a slightly dry finish. This is countered by a sweet citrus hop presence with hints of orange peel and grapefruit. Malt backbone with hints of rye, caramel and biscuit. Sessionable and easy to drink but not overly complex.

Appearance: Pours a nice amber-orange color, slight bit of haze and medium head that lingers.

Smell: Some malt with a bit of hop character (a little piney, a little danky). Nothing overwhelming but it is about what you'd expect from a hoppy amber beer. Could potentially use more aromatics from hops but probably wouldn't substantially improve the smell.

Taste: Very nice malt-forward taste I'm guessing from a decent amount of Munich malt. It is very well balanced with the hop bitterness toward the back of the tongue after a few seconds. Can't say anything particularly bad about the flavor: it's a great amber!

Mouthfeel: Smooth, although there may be a touch too much carbonation that definitely is noticeable on the palate.

Overall: I really like it. As far as ambers go, this is on the bitter side but definitely not either in a bad way or in an unbalanced way (for instance, a West coast amber). Highly recommended.

Ale Asylum Ambergeddon is a clear, amber (almost copper) ale with a thin, splotchy off-white head with a bunch of oily bubbles on it. It leaves nice lacing on the glass. There's a lot of yeast in the bottom of the bottle. It has a huge, fresh hoppy aroma. It's piny and resiny with a hint of tangerine. The malt smells biscuity and a hint sweet. It smells like an IPA. It's medium bodied and incredibly smooth with a very clean finish. I taste a lot of hops (simcoe?). The caramelly malt flavor comes in at the finish. This is very good. It really seems like an IPA.
