Pours a dark reddish brown, hazy but not opaque, just looks a little muddy. Slightly off white head that dissipated quickly. I get a touch of nutty malt on the nose along with an earthiness I really like. Tastes of peanuts, caramel, maybe a bit of chocolate. Slightly sweet but not overbearing. Feel is quite smooth, medium bodied with low carbonation. This beer is boring at a glance, but nicely done overall. Definitely glad to have a brown ale besides Bender that I can get anywhere in MN now.

Pours brown. Foamy, short, tan had that last for a short time.

Smells roast and toasted malt, cocoa, nutty, caramel and earthy.

Taste light toasted malt, caramel and light Cocoa. Followed by earthy and nuttiness. Finishes dry with an earthy linger. Medium body and Fizzy medium carbonation.

Weak head. Clean aroma with subtle nut character. Mild dark malts with a nutty edge. No hop flavor. Moderate body. Flat carbonation. No complexity. Not good..

Bottle pkgd 5/19/16. DFH tulip.

A: pours a medium brown, light penetrates as ruby red, ample carbonation and some fine sediment visible. 1/2 finger sandy head that recedes quickly.

S: chocolate tootsie rolls! Chocolatey and malty; like a chocolate malt milkshake.

T: drier than the nose would suggest; some toasty melanoidins and cocoa powder; a little sourdough bread. Mild English hop on the end. Cocoa or Colombian nutty coffee lingers on the finish.

M: mid-bodied, but carbonation makes it feel lighter. Not terribly viscous, but not a very clean ending.

O: This is a solid rendition of a fuller-bodied English brown. In that respect I like it, but it seems missing something essential. If I lived in Madison or Chicago I'd probably drink it often; but not worth seeking out next time I'm there.
