Had this on my trip out to Milwaukee for Summerfest and its high point of the Chris Stapleton and Tom Petty/Heartbreakers headliners. Pours a brown color with plenty of heart and viscosity to it, this isn't a thin Newcastle type of brown ale, plenty of earthiness in the pour despite possessing relatively good clarity for a brown ale. Solid 2/5" lighter brown head on top. Aroma hits you in the nutty, caramel and toffee places.

Taste also hits you in the nutty, caramel and toffee places. Even a hint of chocolate to it. Some dark bread feels without being super hefty. Hopping is minimal and to style. Speaking of style, its pretty much within guidelines, which won't excite too many of us (hey including me, I'm not sanctimonious about it). I thought it did everything better than average and would recommend to the hypothetical brown ale fan.

Clear brown pour with a tan head. Nice nutty and malty aroma with a hint of brown sugar and caramel. Taste follows the nose with nut and sweet malt flavors. Can also taste bread and earthy hops.

Very creamy brown ale, reminds me of a bigger Newcastle. Sort of comes off like a chocolate banana but finishes flat. Decent dessert beer, but I wouldn’t open a second.

Aroma of chocolate and nuts, slightly roasty. Hints at sweetness. Color is a murky reddish-brown with the murkiness hiding whatever carbonation is there. Off-white to slightly tan thick creamy head, receding at a leisurely pace leaving thick lacing. Flavor follows the aroma, nutty chocolate, except the sweetness hinted at in the aroma is not in the taste. Mild in the beginning, with just a little bitterness in the middle to balance things out. Mouth feel is thick and creamy. The aftertaste retains some bitterness and is a bit clingy. Despite BA calling this an American Brown Ale, it is definitely English in character. Maybe I'll do a side-by-side with a Sam Smith. Anyway, a very good beer (but not a style reviewers will go ga-ga over), true to style. Recommended.

BOTTLE courtesy of Schlimenhaumer. 12 fl oz format.

Aroma of caramel, roasted pecan, bready malts/brown bread, and chestnut. No overt hop aromatics here...seems more English than American in character (though I do suspect American yeast was used).

Taste follows the aroma.

Mouthfeel is aptly medium-bodied. Well-carbonated. Smooth. Wet. Could be softer. Not oily, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, harsh, rough, scratchy, or dragging. Alcohol presence isn't overstated.

A drinkable brown ale with a restrained hop profile and some nice albeit not vivid enough nutty flavours. Bready and filling but certainly drinkable and enjoyable. Dependable but not exemplary. It's a nice little brown ale.

High C+ (3.25) / ABOVE AVERAGE

Pours a dark reddish brown, hazy but not opaque, just looks a little muddy. Slightly off white head that dissipated quickly. I get a touch of nutty malt on the nose along with an earthiness I really like. Tastes of peanuts, caramel, maybe a bit of chocolate. Slightly sweet but not overbearing. Feel is quite smooth, medium bodied with low carbonation. This beer is boring at a glance, but nicely done overall. Definitely glad to have a brown ale besides Bender that I can get anywhere in MN now.

Pours brown. Foamy, short, tan had that last for a short time.

Smells roast and toasted malt, cocoa, nutty, caramel and earthy.

Taste light toasted malt, caramel and light Cocoa. Followed by earthy and nuttiness. Finishes dry with an earthy linger. Medium body and Fizzy medium carbonation.
