Type: 22-oz. bottle
Glass: 16-oz. mug
From: Trader Joe’s in Mission Valley (San Diego), Calif.
Price: $6.99 (I think)
Purchased: April 28, 2014 (I think)
Consumed: May 12, 2014
Misc.: Bottled April 8, 2014; I’m about 84 percent sure this is the eighth anniversary, even though it’s not on Beer Advocate yet.
Poured a caramel, amber color with 5-to-6 fingers of overflowing khaki-white head. Foamy layered spots of lacing along the sides of the glass. Great retention all the way down.
Smelled buttery malts, rye hops, earthy malts, Simcoe hops, tropical hops, citrus hops, unknown spices, nectarine and orange creamscicle.
Tasted a tad bit better than the smell. Could instantly taste the 10 percent ABV. Boozy, caramel, earthy, tropical hops, orange creamscicle, orange rind and buttery malts.
Medium body. Oily-to-creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, boozy, warming finish.
A decent DIPA, but not quite as good as I remember it (without looking at my previous ratings/remarks).

Orange-dark Amber color. Cloudy. Quickly settling head, but it leaves some blanketing lace.
Fresh hop nose. Well balanced--light malted grain and fresh floral hop.
Great malty start but the swallow and aftertaste is all hop bitterness. A very pleasant, and easy to drink, IPA. This reminds me of the first forays for Americans into this style. I do not detect the elevated alcohol level.
