-Spiegelau ipa glass. Freshest by 10.20.17. Consumed 02.22.18.

A: Flat eggshell white head was prominent at two fingers proud with a bready texture and strong stance. A fury of effervesce rages within a lightly weathered orange colored body that showed a small haziness. Macro-bubbles swirled around feverishly with much activity and speed. Multiple bands of lace lie stratified down the vessel.

S: Beautiful fruitiness of mangoes, and breakfast fruit, canteloupe. Light cereal grains with a soft flowery edge of wet pine. Fresh apple and orange slices with some dank citrus on the finish. Aroma was as fresh and wet as ever even after four months past freshness date. Moderately strong.

T: The flavor was fresh oranges and fruit on the start before a dry hopping of high level of citrus and orange peel bitterness moves in. Dank citrus and bitter pine provide a tongue numbing experience of bitterness and flowery coating providing quite the bite. Four months past freshness date was hardly an issue here, or at least in my opinion, as i would of never guessed. Bittering orange and citrus flower hops warm the inner cheeks along with some sticky hop resins.

M: Tingly bite of carbonation on the mouthful provides a nice crisp bite. Some foamy buildup, with some slick slippery malt with a weighty feel on the tongue. Good carbonation with a lightly dry breath of orange flowery alcohol coming post swallow.

O: A surprisingly bite of flowery citrus and pine hops right from the start command and captivate your attention from the first sip to the very last. Heavy malt base, manageable abv% of 10.5% goes down so easily, gives this a big blast of flavor and hops as well bittering appeal. Great drink-ability and multiple factor with its only its hint coming from some alcohol blow back post-swallow. Port always brings down the house hop wise and this is no different. This anniversary edition goes big sticky hops with a drying finish worthy of special note. TKO by IBU.

Uarrrgh! This IS California in a bottle man! This is amazing! I love what Port Brewing make, all are bullseye, without an exception. Funny how they grew out of Pizza Port and brew much better West Coast wonders - boom.
Love the color, that golden amber, real liquid gold, no transparency. The smell is just the doorknob, you start expecting tremendous aroma hops - and boom! It is like honey dew, taken from raw hops, twisted, juiced, blended fresh to extract this amazingly thick and heavy hop juice from them - which is really like liquid gold, delicate, complex, punchy and enamouring. You feel pitied drinking it, as if you were not worthy wasting it all on yourself and drinking it all up. Man is it a great celebration of their 11th Anniversary! Congratulations, may your brewing carreer be fruitful and you brew such historic beers for ages to come! Long live Port Brewing, long live San Diego brewing, long live SoCal!

From the bottle:

Laid back and hop forward.
Port Brewing has been producing world-class beers since 2006.

Right now, you're holding yet another hop monster of a beer brewed in San Diego county. We know that this is hardly original, but we love hops as much as you do, so let's party! This oozes hop oils, aromas and flavors. We hope it's a worthy addition to the riches that is the Port Brewing family of beers. We hope you look forward to this annual release as much as we do.

Strong amber color; fine fluffy, creamy head. Good spicy aroma; some Vienna and caramel malt; spicy and bitter; some alcohol. Heavy body; biting; residual sugars; somewhat hot.

A fair DIPA yet rather coarse and heavy-handed.

Aroma is citrus, floral and sweetish malts. The flavor is fruit/citrus, earthy malts a mild nutty hint and a mix of mix of mild sweetness and increasingly spicy hops finish.

Appearance: Pours with an impressive head pillowing the hazy amber liquid; excellent retention and splotchy lace

Smell: Dank and sappy, with an orange marmalade character; smells caramel sweet and bitter

Taste: A lot of malt forward, with butterscotch tones prominent; growing bitterness, through the middle, with orange marmalade and grapefruit pith building into a dank character; the finish has elements of both the bitterness and the malts but the malts predominate in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Full bodied and sticky, with moderate carbonation

Overall: Back in the day, I tried the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Anniversaries and didn't care for a one of them; thought I would check this out as IPAs have come along way since 2010; unfortunately, this one hasn't changed with the times; a well brewed beer if you like this sort of thing

Poured from a bomber into a pint glass. Simple orange label

L : Cloudy golden copper pour. 2 fingers of foamy white head. Outstanding lacing.

S: Dank and hoppy. Citrus/grapefruit... mango and fruit.

T/F: A rich malt backbone sets the palate up. Big bigger hops... lots of tropicals... grapefruit and mango. Pine sap.... and then more bitterness. Medium in body.... oily on the tongue. The finish is bitter grapefruit rind. Warming and slightly boozy.

O: This is a powerhouse of a DIPA. Great bitterness... slightly boozy... but balanced enough to be dangerously drinkable. Really enjoyed this. Glad I have another bottle.
