Style: American Pale Wheat Ale

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 5.90%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Peak Pomegranate Wheat is a refreshing, yet intricate ale brewed with locally grown organic wheat, organic coriander and a touch of organic Pomegranate and Acai juice from our friends at Sambazon. Not as sweet as many fruit beers, the Pomegranate Wheat has a soft, round mouthfeel from the local, un-malted wheat. The spice from the coriander and the subtle sweetness from the Pomegranate and Açai are a perfect complement.

So a pussy tasting beer. But at 5.9 ABC it's got some kick. It doesn't taste like your typical fruity beer. It's more sour than sweet. Love it and it's usually cheaper than most micro brews. At least in Florida.

My girlfriend and her organics. Not that bad. A bit fruity golden color. Small head. Lightly carbonated. Again. Last time I'll taste this

Smooth but a little too fruity for my taste.

12oz bottle, 5% ABV, and a single from the mixed pack of Peak Organic brews currently available in Alberta.

This beer pours a clear, bright pale golden yellow colour, with three fat fingers of puffy, broadly foamy, and faintly creamy off-white head, which leaves some low-lying ocean swell lace around the glass as it genially recedes.

It smells of semi-sweet dark berry fruit - hard to differentiate the pomegranate and/or acai just yet - bready caramel malt and grainy wheat, a mild savoury spiciness, a touch of phenolic yeast, and earthy, leafy, and weedy hops. The taste is fairly sweet, still muddled pomegranate and acai berry fruit, equally over-sugared wheatiness, a now understated caramel malt, gritty coriander/clove spice, and leafy, grassy, and earthy hops.

The bubbles are quite lively in their charmingly frothy and more workaday fizzy natures, the body an adequate medium weight for the style, and mostly smooth, nothing really getting in the way of that metric here. It finishes on the sweet side, but more or less moderated amongst the blended black fruitiness and equally integrated malt.

Not a bad fruit beer, the guest ingredients ingratiating themselves well enough, without either taking center stage or overpowering the base wheat brew. Tasty for all that, and something I could see killing a number of come backyard BBQ season, which is just too far off on the snowy horizon right now.

Minimal complexity, pretty much just fruit juice

A: Pours a golden yellow color with almost no head

S: Pomegranate, açai, and coriander up front with a bit of a wheaty undertone. Some sweet breadiness as well

T: Follows the nose. Starts off with the pomegranate and açai and goes into the coriander and sweet bready and wheaty maltiness. Finishes with a sweetness from both the malt and pom/açai juices

M: Light-medium bodied with moderate carbonation

O: A good wheat beer if you enjoy the mix of pomegranate and açai. Very easy to drink, but pushing the sweetness a little for a wheat beer. Wouldn't mind enjoying this more in the summer

I really want to like Peak Organic beers, but this is another one that is lacking something. Flavors were not right, hard to find something to approve of here. Will not revisit.

I like the idea, but they should drop the coriander. From bottle so no appearance notes. Smell us classic wheat beer with dark/red fruits but not strongly. Taste is initially nice on fore palate, but then there is a sourness i didn't expect. Could be tartness from the acai berries, but it keeps this from being refreshing. It's not like the intended sourness in a Gose, it's a brighter tartness that doesn't fit. Disappointing.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 5.9%.

Appearance: It has a very light and tall frothy head that sits on top of a hazy medium amber colored body. The head quickly making some lacing only at the top of the glass.

Smell: In the nose I pick up notes of sour candy, white grapes and a hint of raspberry fruity notes over sour dough bread. Very interesting.

Taste / Palate: The taste is light to medium bodied and is a more subtle copy of the aroma. Sour candy and light white grapes mixed with berry like fruitiness within a sour dough wheat maltiness. Notes: It reminds me, in a way, of some lambic beers that I have had.

A: Pours a very lightly hazy pale straw yellow in color with significant amounts of active visible carbonation quickly rising from the bottom of the glass and very faint lemon yellow highlights. The beer has a half finger tall fizzy foamy bright white head that quickly reduces to a large patch of medium thick film and a thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light aromas of slightly tart pomegranate over the top of wheat.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of slightly sour wheat that is followed by moderate flavors of pomegranate that has just a hint of sweetness and a touch of acai (blackberry-like). Hints of herbal hops which fade pretty quickly and contribute almost no bitterness.

M: Light to medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Crisp.

O: Very refreshing and easy to drink, good for a hot day. A nice combination of fruit and wheat that makes this one an enjoyable brew.
