Style: American IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 7.20%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
This unique India Pale Ale features our favorite hops—Simcoe, Amarillo and Nugget. A generous Amarillo and Simcoe dry hop provide for an assertive, hop-forward nose and front palate. We don’t use traditional bittering hops in our IPA, providing nothing but stimulating citrus and floral characteristics.

Inspired by a recipe from our good friend and fellow homebrewer Tim from the North Shore Homebrewers Club.

Murky gold beer. One finger head of fine, wee bubbles, and bubble streams rising.

Smells of sour citrus and pine, followed by a grand grapefruit wave.

Bitter Lemon, bit of grapefruit-pine, and a crisp, vigorous bubble pop.

At around 7%, proper potency, in my book.
It would of interest, for (West coast-style) IPA fanatics, to have a Sierra Nevada Torpedo on hand, the similarities and contrast may well be worth exploring.

A: Poured from the can into a Piraat tulip/snifter-type glass. Body is ever-so-slightly hazy tangerine with a small white head.

S: Fruity hops and a bit of caramel malt. Modest bit of cat pee.

T: First impression: finishes with strong piney bitterness - think crushed pine needles soaked in beer like a tea-bag. It's hard to get past that overall impression. I get a hint of citrus rind after a few sips and the palate adjusts to the big bitterness at the finish.

M: On the relatively light side of medium in heft; carbonation is fine but provides some bite.

O: OK. If you're looking for a one-dimensional bitter IPA, this ought to be right up your alley. Me, I like more flavor from my hops, and while I'm a definite hophead, a bit more balance would be preferable to this.

Poured from bottle into tulip, strong pour yielded 3 finger cream colored soapy head, good retention and lacing. Hazy golden in the glass. Smells of caramel malt, some pine and some lingering citrus. Taste is initially sweet malt, some caramelization, some pine on the front and the citrus comes in the middle. Finish on this beer is really smooth and the mouthfeel is almost creamy. Nice job with the malt on this beer. Some dankness shows up as it warms

This is my second review... I find this IPA to be a good baseline for other HIGH quality craft brews. I would encourage people to give this beer a try!

Smooth with noticeable hoppiness. Creamy texture indicative of high quality ingredients. VERY drinkable with great mouth feel. Just the right amount of carbonation. Little to any aftertaste. Nice citrus finish with a very moderate and inviting smell. Great representation of an IPA… Would purchase again.

This is one smooth IPA right here. It pours a light golden color. I got about one finger head on it. Nice smell of some hops and pine mixed in with some fruit I just finger on it. Taste is very good. A very well put together IPA. Probably one of my top 5 favorite IPA's. Peak did this one right on the money.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass.

L--Hazy gold with a quickly disappearing head that left very god lacing.

S--Strong hops. Very piney.

T--Piney and citrusy (grapefruit). Long lingering aftertaste. Aftertaste is a bit bitter, not bad, just bitter.

F--Adequate carbonation. Not as quenching as I expected from the prominent citrus.

O--A really nice IPA. Would drink more if I had it.

Smell is a nice blend of pine and citrus.
Taste is moderate hop citrus with a bitter pine ending.
Very nice IPA.

Paying due respect to the bonofide aficionados, of which I am not, this is one of the most pleasant (read: best) IPAs I've had the pleasure to imbibe. Crisp, clean, natural...distinct and flavorful hop presence, but not bitter. Strong work. VERY nice. Enjoyed it, on-draught.
