This winter wheat beer uses dark malting to provide subtle toasty notes. We then single-hop and dry-hop this beer with Citra hops from our friend Brad’s farm. Interesting pineapple notes from the Citra hop provide a stark contrast to the toasty notes in the body. An engaging and sessionable Winter Seasonal.

This winter wheat beer has a deep copper color and pours with modest head. Has a dry, hoppy, crisp flavor with a slightly sour finish. This is a new brewer for me -- a good brew that was part of a beer of the month,,,,I recommend this one.

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a semi-dark brown color with a slim cap of a little white foamy head that slid off fairly quick. Some lace ran here and there, but mostly faint.
The aroma had some sweet dark toast, light tidbits of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, sweet wheat and some earthy to grassy hop notes at the end. Light citrus and pine character came in even further underneath.
The flavor leaned towards the sweet side and then popped some of the piney bitterness for an ample balance. Light earthiness to blended chocolate and some pine followed into the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was about medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Some piney hop bitterness tried to show some "harshness" along my tongue, but it wasn't too sharp. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt on par. Nice piney to chocolate and wheaty sort of finish.
Overall, nice beer to show it's favor in the catch all category of "American dark wheat ale." I tend to enjoy this around colder weather but was fairly nice today.

A: crystal clear if held to the light; mahogany in color; 1 finger off white head that receded to a wispy cap; nice lacing;
S: a nice, interesting balance between roasted malt and citra;
T; follows the nose from start to finish; roasted malt takes over completely in the aftertaste; finish is mildly bitter;
M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;
O: easy drinking; would pair well with a lot of food;

As I remarked in the New Beer Sunday (Week 633) thread, today is New Odds & Sods Sunday here at Chez Woody. I am using The Who's 1974 album as the soundtrack & I am simply winnowing down some unrelated oddballs as a part of the Eradication of the Bottle Backlog here at Chez Woody. No rhyme, no reason, just bottles.
From the bottle: "Pure ingredients, delicious beer".
I Pop!ped the cap & began a gentle pour, in keeping with my New Year's Resolution and my Lenten denial. Aggro pours from bottles are now (mostly) a thing of the past. Grrr! I really become inflamed when they turn out to be a screwed-up screw-top bottle, as in this case. A vigorous in-glass swirl produced a finger of foamy, fizzy, light-tan head that quickly fizzled into wisps. Color was Coppery-Brown (SRM = > 17, < 22) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a sweet breadiness, but I could not quite precisely identify it. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was bready with a treacle-like sharpness. Hmm. Interesting. There were notes of burnt caramel, dark bread, treacle & a light mintiness. I am not sure what to make of this. Was it tasty? Yes, but it had odd, jangly flavors that did not seem to be meshing as they probably would have liked. Finish was dry, kind of spicy, but just adding up to a disjointed set of flavors.
The site's "Styles" section says that cloudiness is okay in this style, so I am going to agitate the remainder in the bottle & see if anything changes as a result. Clarity remained unchanged. The flavor smoothed a little bit, but I am still unsold. My advice: decant some and then agitate the remainder. The flavor now had a smoother coffee ice cream taste, but I still wasn't a fan. Oh well.

Bottle from a Lazy Dog
Mostly clear deep copper color with a thin off white head that dissipates quickly. Toasty butterscotch on the nose with bits of earthy citrus to counter. Flavor follows the aroma. I'm not sure how fresh that bottle was but there wasn't a whole lot of hop character.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: Darker brown with a thin beige head.
Smell: Malts, maybe some molasses.
Mouthfeel/ Taste: Smooth medium bodied. Taste of bitter hops and sweeter malts.
Overall: Not bad, but I probably would not go out of my way to have it again.
