Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 8.40%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This is an extravagant, immoderate beer. We mixed together our three favorite things – beer, chocolate, and coffee. A rich stout serves as a backbone, with organic black malt and chocolate malt providing a luscious foundation. During the boil, we add artisan chocolate from your friends at Taza. During conditioning, we add coffee from our friends at Coffee by Design. Then, this concoction is oak-aged, resulting in soft vanilla notes. We hope you enjoy this beer as much as we do.

Pours a deep chocolate black color with decent head and minimal lacing. Aromas of wood, coffee and (bourbon??). Taste is bold with the coffee and chocolate coming through quite nicely, especially as the beer warms. Alcohol is well hidden. Mouthfeel is good and finish is pretty clean and light for this beer...

Appearance: Beautifully opaque, black, but with subtle hints of dark brown. Pours with a small but dense tan head.

Smell: Lots of malt and chocolate. Sweet, but complex and rich.

Taste: Heavy flavor. Bitter black coffee, booze, and thick stout flavors dominate. The oak adds a very earthy, roasty quality. Some chocolate and vanilla notes at first, but a very dry finish.

Feel: Very nice. Not too heavy feeling, decent carbonation.

Overall, a very tasty chocolate stout. Well-balanced, and the roasty characteristics keep the chocolate in line. The oak gives it a smoky, whiskey-like flavor that belies it's ABV
