Best Pilsner I've ever had. Well done.

A - crystal clear blonde body with foamy white head. Good retention and some lacing.
S - citrus and doughy malt
T - citrus hop followed by tangy sweet malt. Champagne, grapes, alcohol in the aftertaste.
M - medium body with moderate/high carb. Sticky and chewy
O - I was pleasantly surprised. I'm not a big fan of Shipyards flavor profiles typically. But this was pleasant and very flavorful for the Pilsner style. Not a bad brew.

I'm going to go ahead and say this without shame. Not half bad. Not like anything else from shipyard. No buttery nonsense. Decent beer, although I definitely prefer my pilsners non-imperial.

22oz bottle - nice to see another example of this style, replete with some sexy, new-age hops. Yet another entry added by someone who apparently has no interest in rating and/or reviewing - pfft.
This beer pours a clear, bright medium golden yellow hue, with three fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and somewhat bubbly ecru head, which leaves some layered droopy cloud lace around the glass as it slowly abates.
It smells of bready, grainy, and slightly doughy pale malt, toasted saltine crackers, lemon zest, white and black pepper dust, and earthy, leafy, and prominently grassy hops. The taste is more well-rounded toasted German malt - crackery, bready, and moderately pastry-like - warm lemon pudding, a kind of laid-back and muddled pepper shaker spice, ethereal hints of gasohol, and decently active leafy, weedy, and pungently grassy hops.
The carbonation is fairly wide-spread in its tickling and tantalizing frothiness, the body a solid medium-heavy weight, and quite smooth, with a touch of aerosol creaminess - a slight ingress from the heretofore nondescript alcohol really not worth fussing about. It finishes off-dry, the boozy warming starting to fully come out of its shell, alongside the lingering Teutonic malt, and that still cool-ass selection of grassy and spicy worldly hops.
I freely admit that I have a mild bias against this style, one borne of an increasingly unfortunate first contact with Rogue's version. Now that I have come to see that not all imperialized pilsners need be like that, I can appreciate the subtleties of jacked-up Central European hops, with the concurrent alcohol measures that would make a lot of Doppelbocks run for cover. Ergo, this one is certainly worth indulging, if not seeking out.

On-tap 4/25/2015 at Doherty’s Ale House in Warwick, RI served in a snifter glass.
A: The beer is a deep gold color, with a large white head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.
S: The aroma is faint but contains citrus, lager yeast, some hops and caramelized malts.
T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of caramel and citrus. Then some breadiness comes in from lager yeast and a hearty malt character. The hops presence is a bit subdued for the style and there’s a touch of an alcohol sting, but a decent balance altogether. The after-taste is slight bready and slightly sweet.
M: A little crisp and a little smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.
O: A little tasty, goes down ok, not too filling, strong kick, decent representation of style, it’s a decent beer but there are better options within the style.

From the 650 ml. bottle with a stamped date of 11.20.15. Sampled on April 9, 2015.
Golden yellow, heady pour. Busy carbonation. Looks the way it should. I'll give that a 5.
The aroma has a rich German malt and toasty character with a hint of pepper giving it a kind of boozy twang.
The body is medium and creamy.
German malt taste but the pepper spice at the finish adds a bite and leaves a mark on the back of my throat. I will actually remember this one for its spiciness.
