12oz bottle poured into a tulip.

Appearance- a translucent white-orange - thin white head.

Aroma- Not a very powerful aroma - but hints of cinnamon and pumpkin come through.

Flavor- The best flavor in a pumpkin beer I've ever had. A nice balance between the spiciness of the cinnamon and the sweetness of the pumpkin. As far as pumpkin beers go, this is on the lighter side.

Mouthfeel- Smooth mouthfeel that encapsulates all of the pumpkiny goodness. A very sweet finish.

Overall- Of all the pumpkin beers I've tried, this is far and away my favorite. The poor reviews from the community is very surprising. I have yet to find another brewery that strikes a balance as well as Shipyard does with Pumpkinhead. A New England favorite! So good that I get it shipped out to me in the fall.

12 ounce bottle, with no freshness or best before type info.

Pours lightly hazed light golden amber, off white head. Leaves a thicker collar, next to no film and just a few spots of "lace" on the glass.

Sweet fruit juice nose...Hmmm kinda off putting.

Sweet, artificial tasting and again nasty/off putting is the feeling I get. I get no pumpkin, perhaps a hint of seasonal spicing, but mosty sweet/artificial/cheap fruit juice.

Only made it through about 1/2 of the bottle. Life is too short to consume much of this stuff.

Appearance: gold with pale yellow highlights, thin white fizzy head, good clarity

Aroma: very pumpkiny and very nutmeggy. Pale biscuit notes round out the aroma

Taste: definite pumpkin taste that kind of mellows into a lager like biscuity malt flavor (even though it is technically an ale). Some spicy nutmeg flavor but overall a little bland

Mouthfeel: a little thin, medium bodied, medium carbonation

Overall: not the best pumpkin ale on the market but fairly accessible to those who aren't up for the dark beer pumpkin ales. Definitely not overpowering, if anything a little too light on taste.

A- The color is spot on (if this was a hefeweizen or a summer wheat beer) but seems way too light in color for a pumpkin ale. Cloudy pale orange color with a one finger head that disappeared super fast. Lacing is an absolute no show.

S- Faint pumpkin spice but reminds me more of a citrus wheat beer. Some yeasty malt in there but it's hard to pick up. Smells are very timid.

T- Flavor is about as non existent as the smells. there is a bit of allspice or ginger in the finish but that is about it. In a blind test it would be hard to tell this is a pumpkin beer.

M- thin

O- The crazy thing about this beer is that as a pumpkin beer it fails. But it still has more flavor than Bud Light and is as easily drinkable as one. So if macro brews are your thing this is super drinkable. But if you have been waiting all year for a great pumpkin beer, you should just pass this one by.
