Well this one does the trick. It is indeed a nice citrusy summer ale. As Summer Ales go this one has a nice full profile with the aroma of lemony hops and dry wheat along with a similar flavor. The key for a Summer Ale is it's drinkability and I find this one certainly is gone before you know it. It's a nice reward for mowing the lawn.

Pours a lightly cloudy golden straw color with a finger of white head. Not much retention but leaves some splotches of lace.

The aroma is basically non-existent, but what is noticeable is some lemon and moldy wheat bread.

The flavor is surprisingly lemony and honestly a bit tart. There's a faint hint of bread here but the flavor is so muted by the lemon it's just not worth mentioning.

The feel is just the worst thing ever. It's extremely watery and even a bit oily, with carbonation so high I thought my stomach was going to explode after each sip. It actually burns going down.

Overall, I expected a mediocre yet drinkable summer ale, and got a terrible and completely undrinkable turd sundae. I don't know why I keep trying beers from Shipyard. For every solid beer they make, there's about 4 shitty ones waiting to take a huge dump in my mouth.

I was told this was a german wheat but it tasted and smelled more like it had a very neutral yeast in it. I downgraded the beer due to a metallic taste I get. I also know I have a very low threshold for this flavor and get it in a lot of beers.

A; crystal clear; medium gold in color; 2 finger ivory head that receded to a thin cap; OK lacing;

S: pilsner malt, wheat, grass, and a hint of spice;

T: a little sweet up front; kind of a wheaty metallic flavor; light, metallic bitterness on the finish - not especially enjoyable;

M: light to medium bodied; moderate carbonation;

O: not terrible, but also not something I would seek out again;

American Pale Ale huh?Anyways pours a clear golden with a thin wispy head but with good carbonation,aroams a really muted some light citrius but not much there.Taste is buttery from the yeast strain with a light hoppy note taking over as i drink more with a toasty taste lingering in the finish.An easy drinker not a bad beer but I wouldnt seek out again.

A: Golden orange color with plenty of bubbles and a big airy and fizzy white head that settles quickly. Some lacings.

S: White bread, thin malty aromas, some faint grassy hop notes and a light smell of bubblegum. Not very interesting.

T: Mostly malts (with a light biscuity character) with a thin layer of grassy and slightly lemony hops. Some caramel and gentle herbs. The finish is short, slightly metallic and has a restrained bitterness to it. Rather restrained taste overall. It's not overly sweet, but I still think there are to much emphasis on sweetish flavors here.

M: Light body, rather aggressive carbonation.

D: Not a very interesting beer. It's drinkable, but it lacks character. Don't think I would buy it again.

NOTE: ABV is 4,8% according to the label.

Shipyard Summer Ale.

Appearance is a highly filtered medium yellow fluid with barely any head no lacing.

Smell is slightly sweet with very little malty and hoppy scents just floating around.

Taste is well just a plain metallic front with small amounts of malts and very light grass-like hop bitterness. Notes of sulfer twang.
Light mouthfeel is slippery on tongue... quite refreshing.

Decent drinkablity for a summer ale but with average qualities.

Just in this week at the local pub. Nothing special. A clear orange color with a small head that didn't last. A sweet/fruity, gariny odor. Very ordinary taste: not much to discern, could detect a little citrus as well as some hops. It did feel OK in the mouth, and was drinkable in the sense that it would quench your thirst on a hot day.

12oz brown bottle. Best before Aug 05.

Slightly cloudy pale, yellowy, straw colored topped with a pure white, thick and frothy foam head with a bit of sticking lace. Respectable retention.

Big diacetyl nose – buttery, just like popcorn with butter and salt. And that’s it. Just butter.

Odd mouthfeel. Light and slightly carbonated, like a can of seltzer water that’s left open overnight – both in feel and flavor. Light twang. A bit tannic and rough around the edges. More diacetyl and a grainy husk character that clashes and creates a mess all over the palate. Quick flash of soft citric hop bitterness gets lost in the heavy butteriness. Some coarseness and hints of dry bubble-gum. Weak finish, dry and dull.

A bit more backbone than other weak summer offerings, but it still lacks and comes across as yet another lackluster summer seasonal.

Was served this beer at a recent cookout.

I had low expectations for this beer and I got it.

1st smell was the signature Shityard diacetyl. Yuck. Anyway, i drank it so I didn't have to smell it any more.

More of the same butter and caramel in the taste. Seeing that this is a summer beer, it's tough to drink given the uneven hops and awkward lemon taste.

I shrugged this down to be a polite guest, but this is a terrible summer beer. Yuck.

12 oz brown bottle with a freshness date.

Pours a crystal clear orangey yellow with quick to foam head and thin layer of lace.

Tad fruity in the aroma with buttery diacetyl and some doughy grain.

Solid crispness in a light body, thin maltiness with an add fermented grain twang. Hint of dry fruit and buttery diacetyl. Mild on the hops with a dry finish.

Not as much character compared to previous years ... seems weak when put up against many of the other summer seasonals.

Appearance: high carbonation, clear, golden yellow

Smell: mostly malts, faint wheat, and a touch of lemon

Taste: mostly malts, faint wheat, and a touch of lemon

Mouthfeel: light, crisp, slightly sweet, I can feel the carbonation

Drinkability: Nothing really jumps out about this beer. For an APA, the hops are not really there. I could drink this again after cutting the grass--or I could just as easily reach for water. It is a step above macro, is not bad, but moreso just blah

Thanks to djrn2 for sending me this bottle. Best by Oct. 2009 (probably should have drank it a little sooner).

The beer pours a light yellow color with a white head. The aroma is a mix of wheat and grain, along with some flowers, perfume and hairspray. The flavor is more of the same with grain, corn and some floral hops. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

12oz bottle poured into a schlitz mug.

Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with basically no head at all. Nose is very faint and light with a bit of sweet malt.

Taste is ok, but the fruitiness from their house yeast is just too much for me, I'm really not a fan of it at all. I can't say it's too bad, there's a light honey sweetness.

A light golden summer ale that has a little more malt to it than most. The citrus kind of kills it for me. I'm more of a darker ale kind of guy anyway FWIW. Not bad for a summer beer, but it's still a summer ale. Better than some other local summer ales but nothing to run out and get.
