Pint can. B.O date: 7/2/18 opened on 7/26

I keep an open mind. So when this became the newest 4 pack at my local Market Basket, I thought: " ooh look, a new-New England style ipa!! Oh, it's from Shipyard...?well, whatever lets give it a shot" (To be honest, I just didn't feel like stopping at another store for something better) But, anywho...let's see what I got myself into.

Pours out with decent vigor, clearly well carbonated, which seems to createvthis white but sizzling foam cap, not very stable, so it recedes pretty quick. Ends with only a thin layer of bubbly foam and nothing in the way of lacing. The lable even says, Hazy IPA...it's actially clear, especially when you compare it too other "Hazy" ipa's..?New England style.

The nose : fruity sweet and tangy citrus style hop thing, zesty Florida oranges, herbs and spice, musty and funky yeast and malty scent combo. Certainly not at all bad, maybe a bit funky, but in an interesting way. Like I said, open mind.

The flavor has a rather generic, large factory pilsner style malty taste that I detect right off. A sharp, tangy citrus bite from the hops kicks in next, a juicy, but dry feel rides in with bitter earthiness, medicinal herbs and a grainy malty complexity. Citrusy and earthy hops are the most interesting thing, best aspect for sure, and it's still a little thin overall.

Shipyard won my respect after the release of Finder. A rather good NE style ipa. I was hoping this would be the predecessor to that..?but....oh well. Keep an open mind at all times.

Dear god... it looks ok, ya know. Not exactly orange juice, but more like a stoner’s first attempt at making Tang. Smell is average at best. A bit citrusy, but also a hint of what the flavor might taste like. And then I took a sip... and like in the 6th grade when the bottle landed on the girl that never brushed her teeth, I wish I didn’t dive in for a taste. Nasty astringent orange juice. Like, hella nasty.

No, never again.

If there was ever a beer that I had to keep an open mind to, then it would certainly be this one. I hadn't had anything from Shipyard in years and this was the first canned offering that I was able to obtain from them. It was something that I picked up while on the road and being on the t-spectrum, this was a brew that I had to get for the label, if nothing else. Yes, this was old as it was canned on 7/02/18 but this ended up feeling as much a lager as an American IPA...

The pour to this was decent as the hazy, deep golden hue had a bit of sediment floating around in it. Not a lot of head or lacing as this was a few shades above being totally thin in it's appearance. Pugnent hops, tropical fruits, and herbal tea in the nose as the mouthfeel contained all of these as well. Maybe a bit of orange blossom floral notes as this warmed up but nothing was too strong or enticing as this went down relatively easily and mindlessly.

There was enough booze in this as I warmed up a bit while enjoying this but the astringency was too high for how low the carbonation was. No, this wasn't new but it never seemed lively to me at all as it went down like a harsh, syrupy citrus bomb that didn't hit the mark. A bit of prickly pear juice was a redeemer but overall, this was only worth it for the label and not much else...

From the 16 oz. can dated 05.25.2018. Sampled on June 24. 2018.

The pour is an unfiltered slightly hazy looking light amber with a short-lived white head.

The citrus notes present themselves in the aroma along with an herbal quality and white bread. The hops are most pungent.

Medium body.

The taste tends to be far more bitter than the aroma suggests with a mild sweet breadiness leading to a biting finish.

Appearance - Pours hazy and solid orange in color with a white, finger width head that dissipates in fair time to a thin, broken layer of suds. A few small patches and small spotting make up the lace.

Smell - Decent aroma. Orange and floral notes, mostly.

Taste - Dirtied orange, lesser floral flavor and a hint of pineapple. Quick to the finish with fading notes of orange and wet paper.

Mouthfeel - Light-to-medium in body with very low carbonation. Flat, mostly dead mouthfeel with a thin, watery finish. Meh.

Overall - Dang it, how did Shipyard trick me into buying another one of their beers? I blame some guys I'm in a beer group with saying this was tasty. Liars! This is not good. Not good at all.

The beer pours out a medium to full on hazy dark golden color, with a thin white head----------------- the aromas are of orange candy, orange peel, grapefruit and lesser stone fruit(smells very nice)--------------- the flavors start out with a pop of orange followed by pine, some basil and a light astringincy, the beer has a medium mouthfeel with a medium bitter dry finish------------------- overall this beer was very good - this beer was a step up from there first hazy ipa, still lacking a little bit in the flavor and mouthfeel departments but there on the right path----

Pint on draft at El Corazon.

Appearance: Very hazy straw. Short white head.

Aroma: Citrus, hops, pine.

Taste: Heavy dose of orange along with prickly, spicy hops. I like it. Citrus bomb.

Mouthfeel: Somewhat harsh and surprisingly boozy.

Overall: I dig it. Great event too. Lots of hops and flavor.
