Crystal clear amber with a thin cap of off-white bubbles. Decent head retention, a bit of spotty lace, looks good. Mild aroma, toasty and sweet malt with a bit of fruitiness and citrusy hops. Faintest hint of celery too. Strong bitterness throughout, a bit harsh, that didn't seem balanced against the light malt profile. There was still a bit of toast and caramel sweetness, but seemed thin. Hop flavour was present, but quite modest and felt muted. Light bodied, slightly dry, average carbonation. Overall, pretty inoffensive and certainly not a bad beer, but there's just not anything here that would make me want to purchase more of it.

Best before June 2012:

Into a pint glass:

A: clear orange/brown colored body with a half finger head that dies within seconds. No lacing was left. Some carbonation was seen rising.

S: pale malts up front with a bit of caramel and some light hints of fruit in the background.

T: slightly sweet through the pale malts and caramel.

M: medium, and it was slightly crisp, sessionable.

O: this was an English Pale Ale as far as I know, I see it is labeled an American Pale Ale, but the malts dominated throughout. I would probably have it again, but it is nothing to scream about.

Appearance: pours a clear orange color with a one inch head that falls apart immediately.

Smell: caramel and a hint of fruit sweetness is all you can detect.

Taste: caramel, ripe fruit sweetness, some orange, and a mild floral bitterness. Overall very mild flavored and a bit bready too.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Lightly crisp from start to finish.

Overall: this is a weaker flavored pale ale than most others. Mildly refreshing but it just doesn't get you over joyed. Easy to quaff.

Poured only a 1/2" white head which dissipated quickly. Clear light brown iced tea color. Very little smell until it warmed up and even then just a little grain. BMC taste but with slightly more bitter hops in the finish. A drinkable but unremarkable beer.

Poured from the 12oz. bottle into a Gritty's pint glass.

The color is a clear amber/gold with a finger of foamy white head that dissipated rather quickly. There is some nice lacing left on the glass.

The smell is a little like dried leaves with some rock like flavor. Some slight maple like flavor in the back that is coming from the malts.

The taste is a little fruity with some slight touches of lemon peal, some peach and some melon flavors. The malts seems to give off a bit of toffee flavor and it holds the back end till it's all gone.

This beer is pleasing has a good feel to it with a light to medium body. This is a bit drinkable but lacks a little something as you go on.

This is an English-style pale ale. It may have been an American pale ale before Shipyard started producing it but I doubt it as Tremont used to advertise that all of their ingredients were imported except for the water.

A: Clear, deep amber/copper body with orange-gold highlights. Frothy off-white head lasts well and leaves some very nice lacing about the glass.

S: Smooth blend of gently sweet caramelish malt, buttery diacetyl, and leafy and grassy hops.

T: Exactly as the aroma suggests but with the addition of a little bit of yeasty fruitiness, and more floral character in the hops. There's just enough caramel in the malt to give it some character without becoming overblown and flabby or sweet; and a solid bitterness anchors it securely, cleaning up the finish.

M: Medium bodied on the lighter side but with a dextrinous edge. Fairly standard carbonation level.

D: If you don't mind the diacetyl and mineralish edge of the yeast, this is an excellent English style pale ale. I prefer to enjoy it a bit warmer; and to give it a very rough pour to disperse some of the CO2 and smooth it a bit. Quite nice really.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with an Oct 10 expiration date. I sampled it on October 14, 2010. The copper-orange pour comes with good clarity but little in the way of head or lacing. Malts lead the way on the aroma with a kind of caramel-toffee flavoring. The malts stand out in the taste but they feel more subtle than in the aroma. There is a think hoppiness at the end but it scarcely deserves mentioning. On the sweet side with a light body, which makes it easy to drink quickly.

bright copper with no haze and a very generous off-white head that retains ok and laces extremely.

aroma is buttery, syrupy and sweet with some herbal and tea-like hops behind that. not good.

flavor is of lots of butter, some caramel, molasses, toffee, and grains. very little in terms of hops. corn syrup is the closest comparison I can make. not good here either, though I can see how some would like it.

light/medium bodied with tons of syrup from start to finish and a melted butter feel and flavor left on the tongue for a bit.

drinks average. I am going to pour the rest of this into a porter and see if I can get something tasty out of this. as it is, its not something I would waste my time on, never mind my money.

I picked up a six pack of this at the Hannaford grocery in Bradford VT. Label notched as best by Feb 2011 in standard Shipyard fashion. Twist-off cap, served the 12oz single cold in a chilled pint glass.

This clear light amber brew gives a half inch of light beige foam from a heavy pour. Had to work hard for the head, but it seems to be sticking around decently well. Smell is moderately corn syrup sweet with a bit of diacetyl that blends in with it fairly well (for the record, regardless of how nicely they may mesh, neither diacetyl or corn syrup is a positive in my book). Taste starts with a moderately bitter inky citrus hop meshed with diacetyl. Notes of bitter grass, astringent overly-ripe lemon peel, and burned popcorn husks. Feel is medium bodied with a slightly fizzy carbonation. I'd put it at 5% ABV.

"Meh" across the board, pretty lackluster, needs more cowbell. *shrug* As with nearly anything, I'm glad I tried it. But nowhere near good enough for regular drinking, even at this some-what reasonable price point. I'd rather have Genny Cream Ale, Yuengling, Narragansett, etc. I gotta have more cowbell.

I was surprised to see this beer is made my Shipyard. Is this the same Tremont line that I thought was launched/made in Charlestown, MA a few years ago? I wonder what ever happened to them.

Anyway, was very excited to stumble across this beer in a store I rarely visit. The beer is painfully average, I must say. The color looks nice, but there is little to no head. The taste almost comes across as more nutty to me. It's like a nut brown with a bit of extra bitterness thrown in. I must agree with another reviewer who said this beer is very inoffensive. He's right: it won't piss you off, but it certainly won't get you excited, either.
