No bottle date on this one...

Black as night pour with a great sticky lace all over the glass. Strong level of vanilla in the aroma. The taste is amazing. Up front vanilla and chocolate but then a dry coffee finish with a hint of bourbon. The mouthfeel is smooth and supple, low carbonation and a medium feel. On the back end of the palate it's a little bitter and dry with some quality black coffee.

Overall, this is a very good beer that runs close to being excellent if it weren't for the very dry finish. I'd also would have liked to see more bourbon come through. It does blend a lot of great characteristics: vanilla, coffee, chocolate, dark fruits, etc... Seek it out if you can find it.

A - Poured a deep black colour with one finger of medium brown head.

S - Massive roast, charred oak and vanilla.

T - A massive bitterness dominates the palate and becomes distracting very quickly, overpowering much of the expected barrel qualities. Some charred oak comes through with the slightest hint of vanilla, but not much of a bourbon presence is evident. The coffee also presents itself more through bitterness than through actual coffee flavour, which is also disappointing.

M - Medium body, not as thick as the appearance suggested. Light to moderate carbonation.

O - Interesting but the barrel and the base beer didn't really come together for me. Either the base beer wasn't right for barrel aging or it wasn't left in the barrels long enough.

Amazing impy stout that really shows the addition of barrel aging and vanilla bean. Luscious and rich this beer is huge in the glass. Finishes dry but long in the mouthfeel as the vanilla plays with the bourbon notes Maybe the best RIS I have had from Canada
