new one from these guys on tap at tivoli. these guys make more peach beers than anyone it seems, and this is a strange one as they go. they call it a saison, but the base beer doesnt taste like that at all to me. very little happening with the yeast at all in terms of flavor, and the beer is real clear, no wheat flavor in it either, so its a little off for a saison as i know them, but its tasty beer, and probably should be thought of more as a fruit beer than a saison. its darker in color, copper looking really, with an inch of white head on top and perfect clarity. it smells like some vienna type malt, as well as the peaches, which have a caramelized almost grilled character to them with the sweeter malt. they also say there is vanilla beans in here, which are way more subtle than the peaches. i taste the peaches well before the vanilla as well, more of an accent flavor there. its almost like a flavored amber or something rather than a saison, and in fact, having this be so far off from a saison in the base makes me want to actually have a peaches and cream saison, i think the flavors the yeast could provide would be really compatible, but crabtree has made another cool beer here, still worth trying despite the style snafu. very drinkable and unique whatever they call it.
