Picked this up at Bottleworks over the weekend... Shared with reinheitsgematt tonight...

The nice fella at Bottleworks suggested this and his bigger brother as the cool hopcentric beers they had in stock at the time.

Pours a dark golden... great head and lacing.

The nose is fantastic... tropical fruity hoppiness and a very light pale malt backbone... The aromas are great.

Flavor mirrors the nose with a surprisingly mild bitter bite that is only balanced by the onslaught of hop flavors... again, this is pretty special.

Body and carbonation are very nice.

This brew is a damn near perfect example of a balanced PNW IPA... loving it.

Bottled: unk

Pours a golden raisin ale with a solid quilt of cream foam. Smells of malt, biscuit, some faint hops, some caramel - unimpressive. Flavor is just malt, sweet and roasted malt. A touch of bitterness. Poor flavor as well. Medium bodied with low carb and a semidry finish. I wish I knew the bottling date of this beer, I've many good things, but I'm uncertain of the date, which gives me every reason to believe this beer could have come from the Huck's cellar easily a year old.

eyes...
1 white finger of head, lacing is sticky and even, golden orange hue with organized columns of bubbly filtering to the surface, standard looking with good highlights

nose...
nice toasted malt mixed with just slightly citric hop, the malt feels like it is holding this up, nothing spectacular but a really fine and consistent balance (and there is something to be said for that my friends)

taste etc...
as expected the malt is really there, and it has a nice toasty tinge to it (not roasted), the initial hop blast is a bit... hmmm... kind of acerbic (slightly) and in the front of the mouth which then fades into the malt and then bitterness in the back of the mouth, this is not your over alpha hopped IPA (some of which I love but it can be the most over done thing since that bread slicing thing), there is almost a medicinal/spearmint thing going on with the hops that is keeping me from enjoying this more (as the malt profile is just superb)

survey says?
a little off for my personal taste... but man the malt flavor here is great and worth a try, it may be your thing. I enjoyed it but I won't go searching out another (although I would not kick her out of bed, or as brian says "I wouldn't mind if she ate crackers"... whatever the hell that means...)

Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a rocky head that leaves a few streaks of lace

Smell: Citrusy and minty hops with some caramel underneath

Taste: Just a hint of caramel, up front, and the citrusy/minty hops take over; some sweetness from the malt builds, after the swallow, though the malt just serves to offset the bitterness of the hops

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Folks in the Pacific NW are just spoiled - they have so many IPAs like this one they just don't know what a good thing they have

Thanks, mdaschaf, for the opportunity

Picked up at beermongers, should be fresh. Bomber to a pint glass

Pours a nice rich golden with a tinge of orange to it. Half a finger of head has kept it's shape. Little carbonation or retention.

Smell is kind of weak, even when it's sort of warm. Hops, come citrus, grapefruit, malts, and some pine. Really muted for some reason

Taste is pretty unique, strong hops kind of cloud the palate with a zesty base malt. Citrus and some caramel and a noticeable alcohol finish. All the flavor really doesn't meld all that well

I'm really mixed about the feel. The initial sip is fizzy and a little bland, not crisp at all. But the finish is incredibly dry, reminds me of Ruination. At the very least it's pretty drinkable and bitter

Overall this stuff is interesting. It's got some strong points but also a lot of weak ones, could be improved in a lot of ways. I can understand why people say this reminds them of Ruination, but really the differences are much more noticeable

Purchased at Albertson's. Appearance is pure gold with some chill haze. Creamy white head that sustains beautifully. Gorgeous head. Can't say enough. Aromas are hoppy with some crisp dry fruit. Very inviting. Very very good. Smooth draw. Balanced as close to perfectly as I've had to this date. Mild bitter aftertaste. Taste and feel of a double IPA in my opinion. Body is velvety and soft. Extremely smooth with a nice weight if that makes sense. This is a real treat.

on-tap, Chucks

Mason pint - hazy orange body, light filmy white head. Old Schoolhouse has a pretty pronounced hop profile - bitter and fierce. Even at only 7.2%, the alcohol radiates in the background. Bitter orange peel, notes of tropical fruit, sugary malt. This is on the heavier side, which is consistent with other IPA's from these guys. A nice range of flavors, but its flaws are pretty rough.
