Rocky's Market is a convenience store with a decent sized refrigerator for thier beer on the side of the store. Most of their beer is in 4 or 6 packs.

Although they had a fair number of beers, all their beer was the type you can find pretty much anywhere else. I didn't see any hard to find top rated beers. In fact, I didn't see anything interesting or unusual there at all, except for a number of beers from Brasserie Caracole (Belgium), which went for about $14.95 per four pack.

Ok, but not worth going out of your way for.

This is a great little market up the hill just off Park Blvd. in Oakland, not far from Montclair. They have a lot of good imported and specialty foods, a small produce section, a meat counter (with killer thick bacon, i might add), and a pretty good selection of wine. And they have classical music piped in over the PA. Hey, it is the Oakland hills, after all.

The beer selection is quite extensive and impressive (it's almost an entire wall) for a smaller market, with a good variety of quality imported beers and American micro's. They must have 50+ different good beers, plus the usual swill. Prices are on the slightly high side, but the big plus is that you can break 6 packs. Sometimes the clerks have no idea what to charge you, so when I pick out a variety I usually find myself doing the math and telling them the 6 pack price and the per bottle breakdown. I don't think they have many beers I haven't seen elsewhere, but there's the occasional obscure European beer or US micro in the cooler.

I'll end this with the usual caveat; it's probably not worth a special trip if your on a beer hunt, but if you live in the neighborhood, it's a fine place to get some good brews.
