Hoptopia by Scuttlebutt Brewing Co. is a Double/Imperial IPA. The froth is light on a scale of light/medium/thick. The body is medium to thick on a scale of light/medium/thick. The color is a translucent but not transparent amberish gold. The smell is refreshing, and somewhat florid.

The flavor of Hoptopia is nice and hoppy with a sort of light flavor in the sweet area of the beer's flavor per se. The majority of the flavor seems to be concentrated towards the back of the mouth per se, in a rich spicy hoppy taste that surfaces there. There seems to be a sort of nice bready taste to the beer as well, and overall the aftertaste does have a little bit of hops spice in it that focuses perhaps primarily towards the tip and edges of the tongue.

Overall Hoptopia may be one of those sort of thicker, breadier examples of the hoppy Double/Imperial variety of beer, and is an all around quite tasty and satisfying brew.

1 Pint, 6 FL OZ. bottle into tulip glass.

A - Pours semi-cloudy dark-golden, carmel color, with a kind of weak white head...- some good lacing.

S - Hops and lots of sweet citrus - some orange & grapefruit tones with some pressence of pine-spice...

T - Booming with hops and pine flavor! Smooth & Bright! A great hop kick at the top, followed by some citrus, then ending with more pine-like spices...Pleasant & refreshing!!

M - Great carbonation! There's a good fullness. Present, but not 'too' much fruity/sweet flavors...The final pine/spice balances the beer out wonderfully!

O - This one is great!! How can this beer come from the same brewery that brewed Gail Force IPA…Gail Force Yuk, Hoptopia, YUM!!! I was surprised by the cloudy-dark 'unfiltered' look. Much darker than the typical IPA... I think what make this beer so good is the fine line of not over-doing 'it' in any particular area (hops, fruity-flavor, pine/spice, carbonation, and last but not least, alcohol level). VERY refreshing and will get again and...…Goin’ to look for a tap ASAP!!!

Pours nicely into nonic. Abundant head. Nice citrus notes on the nose. Pine and citrus overflow and dominate the palate. A very aggressive West Coast IIPA that is a worty representative of the style.
Not readily available at the stores for whatever reason. Purchased at the brewery. Will definitely snag again when I see it.

Poured a murky orange-amber into a tulip with a finger of off-white head and lots of yeasty floaties. Aroma of juicy grapefruit and tangerine.

Generous carbonation and a full, creamy mouthfeel. Sweet caramel, orange, and grapefruit up front followed by biscuit and a long pine bite on the finish.

Really solid and exceptionally balanced with big hop and malt flavors. Higher ABV is pretty well-hidden -- very easy-drinking.

A: Poured a golden orange color with good carbonation and a nice white cap

S: Lighter citrus notes, some tropical fruit and hint of floral notes

T: A very fruity taste to it; blends of nice tropical fruit, light pine, flowers and a dash of orange peel.

M: A little slick, good amount of booze, not really a full body but it is a hop bomb with great taste

D: Very good.

What a deal this was....$6.50 at Winco Foods.

Dark amber in color
Smells somewhat like fruitcake.
Taste is perfectly balanced between sweet and bitter.
In spite of the name, this isn't a super hoppy beer, but a hop lover should be able to appreciate it.
This beer would definitely be on my "go-to" list every time I see it at this price.

Very hoppy, delicious. On tap at bottleworks in Seattle. Easily the best product from Scuttlebutt only problem will be finding more.

More hops & oilier than Pliny, more carbonation & abundance of hops than Hop Stoopid.

Brewery may want to rename this beer, it needs its own recognition in the sometimes crowded space of IPAs.

Copper infused with apricot. Medium offwhite head with decent retention. Great Lacing.

Spicy, floral and resinous. Toasty and slightly sweet.

Floral, pine, grapefruit, spicy resinous hops oils. Matched by a sweet toastiness. Awesome big bitterness.

Medium body with some nice stickiness to it. Drying in the end.

Very tasty and drinkable. Complex, tasty hops, and good bitterness.

A- Nice inch-tall fluffy white head on a hazy reddish orange beer. Above average head retention and great clumptastic lacing.

S- A sweet bouquet of citrus fruits right from the pop of the cap. Very nice.

T- Holy smokes! Follows the nose, which is a good thing. Huge grapefruit component. The perfect amount of malt sweetness balanced with a bitterness that looms in the mouth well after each sip. Well hidden alcohol to boot.

M- Medium mouthfeel, good prickly carbonation.

D/O- To say I am pleasantly surprised with this Scuttlebutt offering would be an understatement. Let's face it, an "A-" rating in the DIPA style on BeerAdvocate doesn't translate into "top of class" but in this case it is fully warranted. Definitely worth the pick-up if it crosses your path.

Haven't reviewed in a while....saw only 7 reviews on this which inspired me. Plus, I had one in the fridge.

A- A nice solid dark orange, not very clear but looks tasty to me. Probably my favorite look to an ipa. Fairly small head, but holding on for the whole glass.

S- Little bit of alcohol, tons of resiny hops. Piney and a little tropical.

T- Just what I was hoping for. A little bit of alcohol twang and malty sweetness, quickly washed away by big, bitter, juicy, resinous hoppiness. So good. I just love the huge hops without being ridiculously bitter/harsh. Just a deliciously smooth DIPA.

M- Slightly light, oily. Perfect in my opinion. I'm sure some people would prefer a little more sweetness and thickness.

O- Hopefully The Beer Authority will keep this in stock, and Scuttlebutt keeps on brewing it. At $4.89/bomber, I can't think of much better DIPA options available regularly. (assuming this will be available regularly)

12 oz. bottle:

Pours hazed orange-tinted amber with a lasting creamy white head. Plenty of rings of lacing stick down the glass.

The smell is citric - especially grapefruit, with some tangerine (and a hint of mango?). Caramelized grain in the back.

The taste is of a strong grapefruit character. Caramelized grain adds some sweetness in the middle. Finishes with a refreshingly bitter dryness.

Very smooth. Alcohol is well-hidden.

Hops with a strong grapefruit character stand out with enough malt backbone to keep it in balance, and smooth.
Just crosses over the threshold of DIPA. I bought it for just under nine bucks a six-pack which is a great value.

Good looking, a little too carbonated. Above average taste, just the right amount of bitterness.

Bottle date (Best By?) on my sample was illegible. There was a strong malt presence on both the nose and the palate. Some citrus, mainly bitter grapefruit rind, nicely balancing the sweetness from the malts. Very bitter finish, quite pleasant. ABV is well hidden. Would love to try a freshie, but this one was very good, very drinkable, and very dangerous.
