I decided to check out this place with an open mind despite the previous reviews that knocked The Dirty Truth for bad service, attitude, and that it was full of hippies. I was a hippie once and I certainly don't feel like that was a bad thing. I haven't changed that much even though I am wearing a tie nowadays. Northampton is a college town so what do you expect. I walked in on a weekday night and there was a good sized crowd there. The beer selection was decent. The bartender wasn't much of a conversationalist but that was ok, but then he disappeared and I never saw him again. Good thing I paid upfront and didn't start a tab. I had an IPA (Bear Republic Racer 5) and that was pretty good. Then I started to look around and saw a little of what the previous reviews were talking about. The place is so dark that they must make a killing on their electric bill. The music is really, really dark and made me feel like I needed to shoot heroin in my eyeballs. The clientele is also dark and didn't seem to be very happy. Hippies, no; hippies are generally happy folk. The dirty truth is that this place is really depressing. It seems to work for them though so I guess I will walk away thinking that "dark people" need a place of their own with good beer to hopefully make them happier or more depressed.

Great pub with an impressive beer list. Not much food on the menu, but what they do have is top quality and tasty. The service was a bit slow, and the beer board was hard to read. The Dirty Truth is the type of bar where you can relax with friends and not feel rushed.

This place has the look of a great beer bar. Lots of hipsters and noticed plenty of people ordering one drink and hanging out for hours, granted I was one of them. Service was a little slow considering it was t busy but filled tables with no one buying anything. Tap list was about 40 or so beers and most I have had. A couple of European beers I haven't tried. Food was limited for a big place. Worth going back.

One of my favorite spots. Always an amazing tap list and really great place to have a conversation without a TV blaring. One issue is the service: I've had some great beer conversations there, but there is also a bit of standoffishness with some of them.

Fantastic service, wonderful atmosphere, imaginative menu with super fresh, local
ingredients (I only wish they had a few more vegetarian options, but the ones they do have are excellent)...and the tap list!!! wow! At least 40 taps, and the selection is pretty amazing.
They always have a great balance of local breweries and breweries from around the US and the world. I've been lucky enough to be there when they had what seemed like a total surprise tapping of KBS, Backwoods Bastard, a Maine Beer Co. tap takeover, and many other treasures.
So, so good!

This place is sleek and hip. 40 or so taps with good rotating selection. Good beers that aren't flat, good food but limited, kinda knowledgeable bartenders that are short with you and sometimes snarky. But overall a solid place for good beer. The crowd is mixed with some hipsters who nurse their $7 beer for over and hour.
